We did not hear much from Guerlain for Christmas 2010 which is why it sort of flew under my radar. Perhaps it was because everyone was focusing on Spring 2011 and that gorgeous Guerlain Blush G Serie Noire 😉
But I was gifted with this limited edition item from Guerlain – Midnight Star Collector, which has a very interesting concept of a primer in a tube. Essentially, its 10 mini tubes of primer in a glass tube topped with the Guerlain signature bee.
Each tube of primer is supposed to be for 1 use and its supposed to deliver an instant boost to the skin to dispel fatigue and stress and refresh skin. Something you’d use after late nights at work or more likely, late nights partying. Very intriguing right?
Unfortunately I did not like it.
I hate saying that about Guerlain but I felt this was gimmicky and even then, a very expensive gimmick. I’ve used their Meteorites Perfecting Primer and that one works just as well to boost skin’s radiance while acting as a primer. That was expensive too, but at least you get a whole bottle’s worth. With this one, you get 10 tubes and I don’t know the local price but its US$73 *grimace*
As a primer, it works. My foundation stayed on a little longer than normal. It also did not turn oily as quickly.
But did it boost my skin’s radiance and eliminate fatigue? Not quite. I saw no discernable difference to my skin. I had no one say that I looked brighter or more radiant or more well-rested. I used 2 tubes for 4 days (1 tube can last about 2 applications) and there was just nothing special about it.
Yes I was disappointed, because I do like Guerlain’s products and thus far, I’ve had mostly raves but this one was a bit of a dud. Perhaps its a good thing that its limited edition then.
Pros: Lightweight primer
Cons: Did not make my skin look or feel special, Expensive, Highly fragranced
Now what I really want to do is tell you about Guerlain’s Lingerie de Peau liquid foundation. But I’m trying do it in such a way that I’m not just gushing on and on about how wonderful it is. Its hard 😛

Guerlain Midnight Star Collector Primer retails at US$73 and is limited edition for Christmas 2010
Lookin forward for the review..I’m guessing it’s a winner 🙂
Oh yes! Winner by a length and a half!
I stopped breathing when I saw Lingerie de peau foundation!! No you didn’t!! I am so jealous 😀 Haha.. Can’t wait for your review!!
Oh dear I hope you’ve started breathing again 😉 Its a really really nice foundation. I almost don’t want to try the Chanel Aqua Vitalumiere anymore
Tell la….^_^
Soon soon… 😉
Hey Paris! I don’t use primer (and haven’t tried yet, do you think they are necessary?) but I like the idea how each are in a little tube for individual use – kinda unique and very hygienic! 🙂
And I like the little design changes on MWS as well! Haha, tons of blogs seem to have a new, updated look for the new year 😀
xx Renee
If you don’t have super oily skin or unsmooth skin (and I know you dont!) I don’t think a primer is necessary to be honest. Thanks for noticing the small changes I did on the site! 😀 Not as drastic as your overhaul but I think I prefer how it looks now – you know what they say about new years and new looks 😉
Ah OK, might skip it for now then… never know about the future though, haha. Thank you!
And yes! New year, new look! 😛 I like what you’ve done! It’s a subtle change and looks cleaner but still remains true to MWS aesthetics 😀
xx Renee
Thanks Renee 😀 Funny that only you and another friend seemed to notice the changes enough to comment LOL! 😀
AHHH!!! I wanna try that too, the new Guerlain foundation! But the internship’s ended and I need to save to get me hair done… Gah, decisions decisions.
Oops! Well the foundation is permament so maybe do the hair first. CNY is coming! 😀
I thought the same about the Midnight Star Collector when I first heard of it, it’s just an expensive gimmick imo. I like the concept of the small tubes as they are pretty and hygienic and the primer seems to work well but I think it’s just too pricey for what you’re getting. Can’t wait to hear more about the foundation though.
Actually Gio, i hated those small tubes. They were hard to open and I’d rather just pump out the amount of primer I need 😉 But the foundation really makes up for everything that’s crap about Midnight Collector 😀
I tried Vitalumiere and did not like it. It went too oily and dewy. I loved Mat lumiere though, but it was not better than NARS Sheer glow. I so want to try Lingerie de peau!
I keep hearing all these great things about NARS Sheer Glow! Makes me want to try it… even if Lingerie de Peau is pretty amazing stuff. 😀
May I know what’s the price for Lingerie de Peau? Do you think it’s suitable for oily combination skin? I’ve just bought the stick foundation from Maquillage and it’s quite good and easy to use which saves a lot of time esp rushing to work in the mornings.
Lingerie de Peau is RM189. I don’t have oily skin but on my combination skin its a dream.
Ooh yes, I got to try the Guerlain Lingerie foundation as well last year and ooh! It’s amazing! Probably the best foundation I tried in 2010. Can’t wait for your review on it.
As for Midnight Star Collector, didn’t get to try that but from your review, don’t seem like I’m missing much.
Hi all
I love the lingerie foundation and midnight star. I rate both products. Perhaps one must be look at how you apply it.
