Estee Lauder Black Crystals Pure Color Eyeshadow : All you need for a 5 minute eye look

January 26, 2011 Paris B 34 Comments

When I met Estee Lauder’s Regional makeup artist, he said that the Black Crystals Pure Color Eyeshadow was a must have. Naturally, coming from him I had to go out and get it. I’m suggestible that way 😛

I must however thank Mr. Zohn Ho for introducing me to one of the best, most versatile eyeshadow. Ever. Period.

The Estee Lauder Pure Color Eyeshadow singles have been reformulated. That is old news by now. They now apply more beautifully and are even easier to blend and adhere better to the skin so the colours “pop”. But what is it that makes Black Crystals so special?

I attribute it to the metallic shimmer and the texture of the eyeshadow. When I use Black Crystals (which is often) I just use it by itself with a touch of white shimmer for effect. That is all. How easy is that?! The shimmer has a multi-colour effect which is very pretty on the eyes.

The black shadow isn’t quite a stark black when swatched. Its more of a blackened charcoal grey which actually works much better on the skin than a stark black.

Here is an example of a look I do with Black Crystals. I do this look in varying intensity for day and night. I also wore this for an evening dinner (I ran late because I took a nap and overslept 😛 ) and eye makeup took me all of 5 minutes. Every girl needs a 5 minute smokey eye look eyeshadow in their pouch!

Here’s how I use the Estee Lauder Black Crystals eyeshadow:-

  • Apply Black Crystals all over the lid.
  • Blend away hard edges near the crease.
  • Take a random white shimmer shadow and highlight inner corners and blend out the harsh edges near the crease and highlight under the brow bone.
  • You’re done!

In the day, I tone down the black to a more washed out charcoal grey and concentrate the colour close to the lash line. For the evenings, I layer on the black and smoke it out, for something more eye catching. The technique I use is the same for day and night, its just the intensity that changes.

So if you have not already checked out Black Crystals at the Estee Lauder counter, do. Its absolutely worth it! 😀

Have you already checked out this one? Or have you tried any of the new Pure Color Eyeshadows? They are really much much better than the previous formula.

Paris B

Estee Lauder Pure Color Eyeshadow retail at RM70 each and come in 3 different finishes – matte, satin and metallics at all Estee Lauder counters. Black Crystals is a Metallic.

It is easy and its lovely and sparkly and can be sheered out or packed on. I love this one so I can’t say RM70 is that terribly pricey 😀

I may not agree with EL skincare products but its makeup items are generally quite good, especially the eye shadows and LE palettes. This is a fabulous quick smoky look on you. Lovely.

Thanks! Their makeup has certainly picked up in terms of quality with their new head at the helm and I’m happy! Estee Lauder is starting to shed their “aunty” image!

This looks amazing on you! I have Tempting Mocha and Ivy Envy on my list but have now added Black Crystals 🙂 Estee Lauder skincare doesn’t agree with my skin but the makeup’s really transformed recently. I like 😀

I already have a number of greys and blacks in my eyeshadow collection that I don’t wear often enough. I don’t need another black, do I?

I tried black crystal on my hand and went home to compare with my Urban Decay’s “oil slick” eyeshadow. They look almost the same. It seems that oil slick is more easy to fall out but can be built darker.
