A couple of months back, I was given the opportunity to try some products from the Amway Artistry Time Defiance skincare range. I’m familiar with Amway – who isn’t? – and their Artistry skincare line, but I wasn’t familiar with most of the Artistry products because I’d never used it.
So the name is a bit of a give away there. Time Defiance. Its something to do with anti-aging isn’t it? And yes you’d be right. The promise is that of Timeless Beauty. Here’s a quick rundown on the products I tried and how I felt about them.
Artistry Time Defiance Range – Overall view
My overall view is that this is a decent product range that is quite affordable, if you are an Amway member or can get it at member prices, and it really is decent skincare. Well its certainly more affordable than Creme L/X which was nice also but priced out of most people’s range. This is within a comfortable price range for anti-aging products. I did not experience anything life changing, but I did not react to the products either, except one. However, I found the scent of the products not to my liking 🙁 So if Amway could lighten or remove the fragrance element or just make it smell a little more pleasant, I think its a good range of skincare products. I do like the day moisturiser and skin refining serum so those are 2 products you can look at to try from the Time Defiance range.
Now, onto the individual products I tried and how they fare.
Artistry Time Defiance Cleansing Treatment RM129/125g
This ones the cleanser. Cleans skin well with creamy foam and does not leave it feeling dry. The scent isn’t strong in this one and because you wash it off, it does not feel so bad. Its alright, not a must have due to the price but its not bad if you are an Amway member.
Artistry Time Defiance Conditioning Toner RM129/250ml
Sorry, hated this. The scent was super strong in this one and it lingered on my skin. Its a sharp chemical powdery scent I absolutely detest. Also, I’m not allergic nor sensitive to fragrance and I’m not even sure if its the fragrance, but my skin turned red when I used this toner. I persevered for just 2 days and stopped. Gave it to an unsuspecting friend who promptly returned it to me because their skin turned red and stung. At the trial facial session, the facialist applied cotton pads infused with this toner over my eyes. It stung and felt awful and I removed them after a few minutes, leaving red patches like a panda. No, I don’t like this one bit. Bad!
Artistry Time Defiance Day Protect Lotion with SPF15 PA +++ RM163/50ml
Now, just because it says it has SPF15 don’t skip your usual sunscreen. SPF15 is insufficient in our tropical sun. That said, I liked this day moisturiser. I’d finished up my other moisturisers, so this one filled the gap nicely. One pump was enough for my whole face and although there is a light scent, it was not as strong as the other products in the range so I’m not as fussed. It felt light on my skin and my skin felt sufficiently moisturised. Best of all, it did not turn my skin oily throughout the day. If you want to try a product from this range, try this one.
Artistry Essentials Moisture Intense Mask – RM76/100ml
This isn’t from the Time Defiance range, but I have the same rant about the strong scent. Because its a mask, you leave it on your skin so the scent does bother me. As it said “Moisture Mask” and my skin was feeling a bit dry, I used it twice a week. I applied a layer on my skin, waited 15 minutes and then washed off. My skin felt nice. Not crazily moisturised, but it was nice and soft. I’m on the fence about this one. Nicely moisturized my skin but the scent killed my mood.
Artistry Time Defiance Skin Refinishing Lotion – RM183/30ml
This one’s a good one. Again, there is that light scent but like the day lotion, its not as strong. What it is, is a gentle skin peel without acids. Its a treatment product and they use sugar and algae and oat extract for the peeling. The texture is a bit of a gel-lotion, not a watery serum. You use it after cleanser and toner but before moisturizer. Its a simple method of pumping 2 pumps onto a cotton pad and wiping it over your skin. The skin immediately feels a touch more velvety. I used it twice a day.
I do find that it helps the skin look better and after about 2 weeks, I found that my foundation was applying better. There were some dry flaky bits of skin from some dried pimples and this helped clear it up more quickly. Its similar to a product I used to use from Kanebo (the name escapes me) but this is a little cheaper 😉 Like the day moisturizer, give this one a try if you want to try a product from this range.
Artistry Creamy Massage – RM134/120g
I found this a rather strange product that I’m not sure what to make of. After cleansing, you apply this cream on your face and perform a simple facial massage. I do a very simple one by using long strokes and massaging upwards. It rinses off easily and it does leave my skin feeling soft and lovely. Now, this one does not have the scent I keep complaining about. There is a scent but it is very light so its quite pleasant. Its of course more pleasant if someone else were to do this facial massage for you 😛 I only used this about twice a week.
So those were my brief thoughts on the products I had the chance to try.
Pros: I liked the day protect lotion and skin refining lotion from the Time Defiance range, The Creamy Massage is nice but more suited for someone to do the massage on you, Available online
Cons: Strong fragrance in most of the Time Defiance range products, Conditioning Toner irritated my skin
The prices I’ve listed are the retail prices. Apparently if you are an Amway member, you get something like 20% off the normal retail price, which makes the skincare quite affordable. There are lots of Amway members around so if your friend is one, leverage on them to get it at member prices hehe… 😉
Have you tried any Amway Artistry skincare? Or Time Defiance? I do like the Day Lotion but am I the only one who’s bugged by the fragrance in this line? 🙁

My mum uses the full range of this…And seriously her skin is better than mine. (Good for her bad for me..:p) I am using Artistry Pure White and so far so good except I have allergy on their lotion. But I love their Essential Clay mask. 😀

LOL Glad your mom’s liking this range – she’s comfortable with the fragrance then, I’m assuming?

When I was little, my neighbour used to be an Amway member and her niece is one the active ones, having achieved some award and goes for overseas trips annually. She used to push her products to us and having known her and her aunt, we bought some Amway cosmetic and skincare products.
We gave it a go and it’s suffice to say that we never ever bought any again.

Oh I’ve had my share of pushing direct sales sellers. I know they are trying to earn some money but it bugs me nonetheless. Were the products you bought bad?
Jessica says
Yep…very. Didn’t agree with our skin.
ParisB says
The fragrance element needs some reworking I think. Very sensitive skins will hate it.

I also had tried Artistry product. I hate the smell and it didn’t improve my skin condition at all.

I dislike the scent too 🙁 it smells so powdery and artificial

Tried Artistry for almost a year once. Skin got super sensitive and thin and red. Had to spend a fortune to recover from this experience. Into the fifth year now from my last use of Artistry and my skin has just about fully recovered. Will never try them again

Thank you for sharing and so sorry it reacted so badly with your skin! Thankfully nothing very untoward happened with mine but I’m only really using the day moisturiser for now. The rest are alright on my skin but there’s been no major plus point I can see.

I hate this line ParisB!!! LOL it seems not a lot of people like it. Just to break it down, it doesn’t work. And if it does, its all psychological haha 😛
