I showed you the Maybelline Hyper Diamonds eyeshadow palette a while ago but it took me a long time to get round to forming a view of it, because well, BR-1 the colour I was sent, is too warm for me.
When a colour is too warm for my eye area, I look tired and bruised and it did not help that every single time I used it, I’d have people ask me if I had a bad night. I was seriously getting quite fed up.
It was when I discovered that BR-1 did not work for me if I tried to use all the main colours. But if I chose the coolest colour, and worked it in with lots of dark liner, it wasn’t half bad. I’ve got the swatches and eye look below, to show you how I used it.
With a name like Hyper Diamonds, you would be correct to guess that this is shimmer galore. Every single shade is shimmery and two are even glittery. They are hard to the touch, and do swatch a little sheer. Personally, I’d say its not a palette to wear for everyday to work but with the party season coming up, its not a bad party piece.
I mean, we all need a bit shimmer and glitter in our arsenal, for that party bling look, and this one is pretty inexpensive, considering you get 5 colours out of it all 😉 If you want more intensity, dab the colour on instead of swiping it on the skin. Or use an eyelid primer.
Tip: You can also layer these bling bling colours over existing makeup to transform your look from day to night 😀
How I eventually made BR-1 work for me was to use just the taupe shade and a touch of the pale yellow gold for highlight with a touch of brown in the corners.
- Line thickly with a black pencil eyeliner
- Apply the taupe colour over the black and close to the lash lineand blend with the liner to create gradational colour.
- Apply the pale yellow on the inner and blend edges to highlight
- Apply a bit of brown in the outer corner if desired
I could not get the other shades to work for me, as it was all too warm. Also, you can see the fall out which isn’t so obvious with this palette but might be more obvious with a darker palette like the purple or black ones. I am rather considering the Black palette. I have this thing for black and grey eyeshadow 🙂 It might make a pretty sparkly smokey eye won’t it? 😉
Pros: Good for those who like sparkly eyeshadow, Excellent for party looks, Inexpensive glittery shimmery colours to layer over for party looks
Cons: Sheer, Very shimmery and glittery, Fallout galore!
Have you checked this one out yet? Its not for everyone, I’ll say that. Its strictly party wear… unless you get away with it at work of course – depending on where “work” is 😉

The Maybelline Hyper Diamonds Eyeshadow Palette retails at RM35.90 each and comes in 5 colours at all Maybelline counters

It was wearable for me. Not very shimmery after blended.

When I blend, it becomes fall out. I’ve tucked it far away only to be brought out for bling bling effects 😛

I’m impressed with how hard you tried to make it work! Am looking forward to the grey and black palette if you give in and buy it. Yani did a review right?
ParisB says
I think Yani reviewed the L’Oreal Open Eyes Pro one. I tested out the black Maybelline one. Too much fall out. I’d stick to the L’Oreal one to be honest. Less glitter, more useable.

Determination to make it work=PB 🙂
I don’t quite like this range…and I agree on the fallout! I pat on, they fall off. :s
ParisB says
haha!! So true I find myself cleaning up the fallout like crazy… and then it falls out some more 😛

What a pity. Of the Maybelline palettes, I like the Diamond Glow Eye Studio palettes best. The rest of their eye products are ho hum.

I think it looks great on you!! Perhaps it would be fab for winter with a plum lippy.. Wait, there is no winter in Malaysia! 😀 Hehe
ParisB says
Yes there is! Its called rain 😛 In this dull weather, I’m doing black on my eyes a lot. Not very self serving to uplift the mood is it? 😛
Natalie says
LMAO you crack me up!! Haha.. I dare you to put some neon lime on your eyes! Actually have you tried dabbing some black eyeshadow on top of gold? Black becomes khaki and it is purdy 🙂
ParisB says
Hmm… let me go dig up a neon lime eyeshadow. Don’t think I have one 😛 And I haven’t tried that black/gold eyeshadow trick. I’ll definitely give it a go, thanks! 😀
