“Pay RM200 for a tub of hair mask? You gotta be joking!” I cried when told the price of the Kerastase Oleo Relax Anti-Frizz Hair Mask. I’ll do nicely with Brand X thank you!
That was me maybe a year ago. 6 months ago or thereabouts, I had a case of horrible dry, frizzy, unmanageable hair. It was so bad that when I combed my hair, my comb would get stuck. So after I lost enough combs to the wilderness of my hair and after getting fed up with the “helmet hair” look, I caved and sought out the Kerastase Oleo Relax Anti-Frizz Smoothing Hair Mask for dry and rebellious hair. It was a fair description of my hair – my hair was staging a rebellion all by itself! I purchased mine online… as I do 😛
I put it to work the very day it arrived. I mean, it cost me about RM200 a 200ml tub. That’s RM1 for every 1 ml! It better work 😛
Its got a nice smell. Its a very strong scent that makes me think of a mixture of fruits. It is VERY strong but I like it. For some reason I find it relaxing. The texture too is more liquid and not solid or thick like some other hair masks I’ve used.
It being a hair mask, I used it in place of conditioner after shampooing my hair. I left it on for about 8 minutes or so while I took my time showering, and then washed it out. That night, for the first time in weeks, I did not have trouble combing my hair.
I used this hair mask for 3-4 days consecutively. It was not until I tweeted about it, and Nikki of AskMeWhats mentioned that that was expensive stuff I was putting on my hair nightly, that I came to my senses and cut back. But I think that initial intensive nightly treatment helped, because my hair was lovely and swishable again without standing at right angles to my head.
Also, I found that I did not have to use very much. When I first started, I scooped out a nice big handful but now, I don’t use that much anymore. Perhaps as much as the tips of my fingers can scoop out, worked into the hair from mid-shaft to tip where they are driest and most frizzy. Having short hair is of course, a bonus 😛
I now use the Oleo Relax Anti-Frizz hair mask about once a week, usually on my pampering Sundays. Sometimes, when I’m feeling oh-so-decadent, I’ll use it twice a week! *gasp* And wonders of all wonders, this tub is now nearing the finishing point. Hurrah!
Pros: Repaired my stiff frizzy hair, Keeps my hair soft and tangle free from the first use, Smells lovely
Cons: Expensive!
I spoke to a hairdresser at one of the salons I visited recently and he told me that if I wanted, I could use the Oleo Relax Slim instead. Its a lighter formula for hair that isn’t so badly frizzy but I didn’t come across many good reviews for that one so I might just stick with this one 😛
For someone who used to use salon brand hair care, Kerastase was like the pinnacle of luxury hair care. A brand I always coveted from afar, never daring to get too near. After all, I figured, how much different can expensive hair care be compared to regular hair care?
A lot, I’ve since learnt. I’ve tried a couple of other Kerastase hair treatments by now but Oleo Relax has a special place in my heart because you know, you never ever forget your first love 😉 Nor your first foray into the dangerous, forbidden world of expensive hair care products. Sigh…
Are you a Kerastase user? I know of a few who are and who swear by it. I’m not there yet, but who knows eh? I think I gotta replenish my Oleo Relax hair mask soon 🙂

Kerastase Oleo Relax Anti-Frizz Hair Mask treatment retails at approx. RM200+/200ml at selected Kerastase hair salons only. Or get it (as I did) on StrawberryNET.com
haha, I do. I use a few, the shampoo(bain de force), night serum(blue bottle, smtg thermique?) after shampooing and after drying my hair i use oleo oil to smoothen it all out. and of cos on weekly basis, the mask which is the pinky purple one smtg for shine? and i swear that my hair has nvr been better! =D go to sungai wang, you’ll find it slightly cheaper. i cant remember which floor, either 2 or 3? in the corners there, if u see a shop called SKL, that whole row is for your picking. you usually hv to ask because u need a license to sell it which they dont. haha. I’ve dragged them all over to UK now. My luggage limit wasn’t too happy abt it. I hope you found a new love as I have, and ive been using it for about 2 years now. cheers!
Wow to lug it halfway across the world, it better be good stuff! 😉 Now don’t tempt me into trying a new (expensive) hair care yes? 😛
I use Kerastase DermoCalm shampoo… haven’t ventured near their treatments and masks… yet! 😛
For now, I will keep to my cheaper Brand X hair masks… 😀
Hey if Brand X works, go with it 😉 I’ve actually heard a lot of good things about Kerastase hair care in general so i’m really glad the 1st thing I tried worked for me 🙂
Hi Rinnah. If you ever read this again… is the DermoCalm range suitable for sensitive scalp?
Nice~~~ Keratase is out of my budget 🙁 It’s cheaper in UK, I think, cuz my cousin only uses it when she’s back there… hahaha… I’m currently using Schwarzkopf Bonacure Reinforcing Q10 Treatment (Always had to google up the name cuz I can nvr get the 3rd letter and so on right :)) as my regular conditioner… It cost me a whopping RM120 for that big bottle! It’s like RM90+ pounds in UK… well, I thought it would work, but I’ve gone through half of the bottle (prolly like 500mL) and my hair still has split ends and is very brittle 🙁
Yup it appears to be cheaper in the UK but still expensive 🙂 I used Schwarzkopf before a while ago. Did nothing for my hair and was pretty pricey!
yup using kerastase mask too, the green one, since i have serious hair drops. works well, nice scent and also bought from Strawberry with 20% +5% discount!
is espensive but it works, i shared a tub with my sis, so to lessen the damage to the wallet…;-)
Clever girl! 😉 I’m so glad for places like Strawberrynet where I can get it a little bit cheaper 😉
I’ve never used anything more expensive than Sunsilk, ever. Not even Pantene. That being said, I don’t really pay attention to my hair, so yeah.
Hey gotta pay attention – not only when it starts to drop 😛
I’ve bob cut, my hair is short. Sometimes I don’t know if I need any treatment for my hair! *lol* My hairstylist always tells me my hair is healthy and perfect, I don’t need any extra treatment. I wash and blow dry my hair everyday for the past 10 years! I do have a few strands of frizzy hair in colder months. I’ve tried a few products but nothing really worked.
I have a bob too! 😀 You’ll know when your hair needs treatment. It’ll be rebellious and dry and horrid. Since your hair dresser says your hair is fine, it probably is so more savings for you! 😉
I’m using Kerastase (white colored bottle) for sensitive scalp. RM75 for 250ml (*cry*)
Anyways, be careful if you buy in Sungei Wang. I’ve read in Lowyat.net forum that they do sell fake Loreal/Kerastase products. Not sure if it’s really true though.
Personally, I don’t take chances :p
Thanks for the tip! I’ve actually heard about that too. I used to buy my Redken shampoo from these stores but once I bought a bottle that had a strange chemical smell and made my hair feel weird so I stopped after that. The other thing I’ve also heard is that the products sold are original, but may be watered down or mixed to get more mileage. Not sure of the truth but like you, I don’t take chances! 🙂
U gots this iddy biddy tub that I still cannot bring myself to use >.<
maybe the night before my wedding?
I feel unworthy to use such an expensive thing :p Just like the la mer mask that I got. NEVER got used in the end I gave to someone more worthy of it
Wai! Hair treatment is ongoing la not miracle cure before wedding 😛 use it – treat yourself! You deserve it 😉
My mum is using this and bain de force shampoo. She has finally tamed the lion’s mane lol, literally. Using it once a week is sufficient to take care of her frizzy hair. She usually does her chores while putting the mask on her hair haha and only rinse it off. Hello to silky smooth non-frizzy hair
I love this idea of putting on a hair mask and doing house chores! Its so decadent yet practical 🙂
I’m actually waiting to buy the Smoothing serum. I say waiting because it’s about 43 bucks *yeeeoouucch*. I might give this a go if I can hopefully get it on discount in one of the haircare factory outlets. Here’s hoping *fingers crossed*
For now, I’ll stick to Pantene 😛
Hey if Pantene works at least there’s no hole in the pocket! 😉 I love the idea of haircare factory outlets! We don’t get them here 🙁
i have used kerastase a lot before until i fell in love with kiehl’s. but i still use their oleo relax huile, the finishing product after you dry your hair. it is really good. i’m running out of it (almost) and am betting on pantene’s night miracle… then again, my hair is now super short. so i can save on hair products *yeayy*
And you look tres chic! 😉 I enjoy having short hair too – less maintenance. But when I use the wrong shampoo its a disaster – helmet head anyone? 😛
Used to go for hair treatments at salons which can cost about S$70 which only gives me about three or four days of smooth hair. Now I’ve stopped and invested on good hair products such as expensive hair mask, serum etc which gives me better managable hair in the long run. Finds it cheaper, therapeutic and save time too.
You’re right you know. Long term hair care is better than going for the odd treatment and not looking after your hair otherwise. That said coupling the hair care with salon treatments can help hair look and feel better too plus you get that “just stepped out of the salon” feel 😉
Many market brand i had tried but seem does not get the desire result that i want. I am looking for conditioner which can make my hair softer and not so dry .If this hair mask can “rescue” my hair , i don’t mind to spend more. haha.Wonder is there a smaller size packaging for sell, 200ml seem too big size for first try
I believe the 200ml tub is the smallest size available. Perhaps you could try to share with a friend? 🙂
i LOVE this hair mask – but i’ve only bought 2 tubs to date because of the sky-high price. it makes mad hair crazy smooth and i too adore the smell. i’m using the hair serum now, which smells the same and is just as lovely.
only downside (insane price aside of course) – it’s so rich it makes my bathroom floor super slippery after rinsing it off so i always have to be careful not to slip and fall!
Hi to another Oleo Relax fan 😀 perhaps you might be using too much? I don’t get the slippery floor problem
i too love the smell of Kerastase product, but it is anti-frizz oil from Oleo Relax, so love the smell of my hair after apply it! other than this i use Oleo Curl curl-protection, it is good ans small as good too!
i use Kerastase Chroma Riche treatment and Bain Miroir shampoo (for dyed hair) as well as the Oleo Relax serum. Have been using Kerastase for donkey years and my hair won’t take any other!
But I get the slippery floor problem too!!
love this product! it works wonders on me as well 😉
This product is good! I’ve been using it for 2 years. I use it everyday whenever I wash my hair, it’s more like a hair-conditioner to me than hair-mask. Btw, I don’t think it’s RM200. I bought it for RM120+ or so only.
i’ve been using Kerastase hair care product for more than 5 years now and swear by it. i also like their Hair Spa treatment, especially at Elle Hair Studio in JB. some might say its too expensive but if it really works why not rite. i did try to change to over-the-counter product but it doesn’t work as well as Kerastase. the one product that i (& my bf) love is Oleo Relax Serum because it makes my hair smells nice apart from making it non-frizzy.
i totaly agree.at 1st i was taken back by the price but da product realy works.i used to have healthy hair until end of last year where i went to ths salun to did rebonding.my hair becme very dry and coarse.i did rebonding before but it was never dry til da last time i did it.my hair looks and feels like grass.it is realy that bad.then i came acros kerastase product and tried it on.and da result is great!da difference is very obvious even if ure only using it for da 1st time.i knw its pricey but it is worth every penny.i totaly recommend it.and it smells realy gud!
Is it bad to comment on a post 1.5 years later? 😛
Anyways, just wanted to chip in and say that this is by far my favorite hair treatment product. Worth every penny! You’d only need a tiny bit for each application, and I have long hair too. 😀
I used to use it everyday, to save my straw-like hair. But now, I use it twice a week. I’m still in the search for a good everyday conditioner. Thinking about trying the Lait Vital conditioner. 🙂
I am using Rene Furterer Myrrhea conditioner and it’s not bad. Not too heavy on hair, detangles hair and keeps it soft and light. Used a sample a while ago and am now using the full size one. Nice! I also use the Oleo Relax once a week or when I remember 🙂
Oops! I “replied” with a new comment (see comment below). 😛
Need to go get coffee. So not awake yet.
