Come on over to the Dark Side with Smashbox Masquerade O Gloss Noir

October 5, 2010 Paris B 19 Comments

So far, I’m pretty much enjoying the Smashbox Masquerade collection. The eyeshadow, cream blush and softlights are definitely worth taking a look at. But I felt I had to tell you about the O Gloss Noir too because I felt it a little gimmicky. I know that one of Smashbox’s bestseller is their O Gloss – a lipgloss that starts off clear and changes colour to give you the perfect colour for your lips. Rather like that of the O Glow.

smashbox o gloss noir masquerade review

Cashing in on the popularity of the original O Gloss, Smashbox got in touch with their dark side and came up with O Gloss Noir. Incidentally, we will see a gold O Gloss for the Holiday season. That one is rather intriguing.  But coming back to O Gloss Noir.

The gloss is black. Funky wot? Seriously! its black.

See, I kid you not.

smashbox o gloss noir review

O Gloss Noir applies on the lips a light black without too much shine, but promises to turn a deep berry shade on your lips. This is where I got rather disappointed.

On my lips, all I see is a sheer black with a hint of dark berry. Its not awful but neither is it wonderful. I guess I was expecting a stronger colour to develop. That said, this being an “intuitive lip gloss” perhaps it will develop into a stronger colour on someone else? Maybe it reacts with the dark side in you – in which case, it means I have no dark side *snicker*

smashbox o gloss noir swatch review

There is a strong minty flavour which again boggles my mind a little because with a colour like berry, I was expecting a sweet taste. Not that its unpleasant. I much prefer mint over sweet anyway.

Pros: Nice minty flavour, Novelty factor of using black lipgloss

Cons: Berry colour isn’t very strong, Very sheer colour

All in all, I’d say this is something fun to have but its not necessarily a must have. I’d say, get this for the novelty factor – the thrill of pulling out and applying black lipgloss on your lips and seeing other people stare at you is priceless 😀

Do you own or like O Gloss? Would you consider going over to the dark side and get O Gloss Noir? 😉

Smashbox O Gloss Noir retails for RM86 and is limited edition under the Masquerade collection. Available at the Smashbox Cosmetics counter at Parkson Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.

well since Dior’s CRYSTAL GLOSS turned fushcia pink on me after 1 application, i’d HATE to think what this would do.

I have Dior Glow?? I forgot the name but it did the same thing to me!! It wasn’t very flattering. So I agree, this one will probably do wacky things too lol.

Paris, it still looks nice on you even if it didn’t turn very dark. ^^

Just wondering, is it sticky or felt thick on lips?

the idea’s sultry but I think the color makes you look like you just ate a grape popsicle… not a bad thing but still kinda weird

I find with the NOIR and GLOSS if you apply a little and rub it in you get faster and stronger colors. Let the color come through and then apply a light layer of it over that to give the glossy look. I found out that hard way that the color gets stronger the more you apply it. I was wearing GLOSS at a friends wedding and I kept applying all day without really looking in the mirror and someone finally said “Wow, your lips really matches your dress”…I was wearing a hot pink dress. It looked pretty, but I’ve never known the gloss to be that bright with one or two applications. So the more you apply the stronger the color gets. I love smashbox glosses because they are never sticky or goopy and have pleasant flavors. I can’t wait to try GOLD!

I remember when I first tried the #antipodesskinca I remember when I first tried the #antipodesskincare Aura Manuka Honey Mask. It blew my mind away! Soothes skin. Boosts hydration and just makes you feel like you have the best skin ever! Not kidding. If you have a spot or irritated skin, it calms it down and helps get rid of your spots too. Honey is anti bacterial after all, so it’s a great multitasker.
I also love the Manuka Honey Skin brightening Day Cream. It’s light but creamy and sinks into the skin. I’ve reviewed them both on the blog in the past. If you run a search for Antipodes, you’d also notice how much I love the brand! 😁
I’m super late with this but if you’re planning to purchase any of these 3 Manuka honey items from TNS Skinlab, the code MYWSTUFF10 will give you an extra 10% off (until tomorrow 31 Dec) I highly recommend grabbing the Aura mask. You’ll never want to be without (I always have a backup!)
Thanks for the gift @tnsskinlab and I must apologise for my tardiness 😩 I’ll learn to cope better from next week!
