Visiting cosmetics counters are detrimental to my wallet. But then we all know that don’t we? After my visit to the Anna Sui counter to view the Fall 2010 collection, I intended to order 2 Anna Sui items but when a friend placed the order, I forgot. Eeps! Whew! 😛
Anyway, I’d like to tell you about the new Anna Sui Eyeshadow Duos that are new for Fall 2010. I remember a while ago, Anna Sui had some duo eyeshadows too but they were limited edition too, just like these.
These eyeshadow duos have 2 formula – a silicone/cream darker shade and a pressed powder lighter iridescent shade. The deal is to layer one over the other to get a unique 3rd shade. But let’s see how it fares eh?
Mine is in 04 which is 2 shades of blues. Blues! My sorta colour! 🙂 Here are the swatches side by side and overlapping.
First off, a little criticism. I found that the colours when swatched were not true to what you see in the pan. They actually swatch lighter. The light shade of blue is super sparkly and hardly shows up on the skin, which is great if you like it, but not great if you aren’t a fan of sparkles. This is quite true of all the duos in the collection.
After a lot of experimenting, I found that the best way to wear this eyeshadow duo is using the “layering method” as I like to call it.
- Start with the DARKER shade and apply close to your lashline, blending it upwards about halfway up your lid.
- Take the lighter shade and apply on the top half, and blend with the darker shade.
You will notice a third shade form in the middle (in the swatch picture its on the right). I find that if you don’t work quickly, the silicone/cream colour can set and form a harsher line. Not to worry. Just layer a little more light colour over the harsh line and blend a little more. It will diffuse somewhat. The colour does apply on the lids a little more sheer than it does on the back of my hand but you can layer it.

What I do rather like about these eyeshadow duos is how useable it is. If you are new to eye makeup, these are great because they are literally swipe and go. There are a whole bunch of colours to choose from – 7 or 8 if I recall correctly. I had a bunch of photos of them in my lost camera so you’d just have to take my word for it 😛
After long hours, I do find that there is some slight creasing around the lashline where I applied the cream shadow. Thing is, eyeshadows rarely crease on me so this might be something to note.
Pros: Useful for newbies, create 3 colors with just 2 eyeshadows, pretty case
Cons: Slight creasing of cream shadow, rose scent
Here’s a gratuitous picture of the case which I think is super pretty.
It comes with a dual ended sponge applicator but I use my fingers. And like all Anna Sui products, it has the signature rose scent which many like but which bugs me a little bit because I’m not girly girly and into roses.
My personal favourite is 04 the blue one you see here because I think it works best on me. But that is sorta a given since I have it eh? 😉
Have you gone to take a look at this one? Its been out for a while. Does Anna Sui fly under your radar? Would you like to get this one if only for the pretty packaging? 😉

It creases like crazy on me. even over an eyeshadow primer. it took a few tries to make the combination work but I managed. Just not completely pleased. I so prefer the singles
ParisB says
It didn’t crease that badly on me, thank goodness! It must be that silicone-cream texture. I find it a little strange. Personally I think the silicone-cream texture does not play well with a primer so it might even be worse!
beetrice says
you and your blue-green combinations! :p but that is a very pretty case indeed, and the light-over-dark shade is gorgeous….dammit! *flagellates self with powder brush*
ParisB says
LOL! It is pretty and blue-greens are my forte 😉 But do note the creasing bit that even Connie complained about. It happens so rarely with us that its worth a mention!
Hanny says
Ahahaha. I’m a blue-purple kinda gal ahaha ^.^ It looks pretty on you! But strangely, Anna Sui still holds no appeal to me, haih.
ParisB says
That’s alright – it doesn’t have to appeal to everyone – just some 😉

Actually, Anna Sui’s eyeshadow is not very nice. You can try swatching them with ur finger or anything over the counter and you can notice a lot of flakes which is horrible. Not only that, the shadows doesn’t appear on you and I have to agree with Paris, the colour seriously do not seem true to the pan itself.
So I alwiz skip their eyeshadows. I wonder how it will be with UDPP though. I still miss their eyebrow powder though… Just the right colour for asians but they are discontinued. Sad…

The singles are better to be honest – these duos are a bit meh 😛 I used to like the old round singles with the flower 😀
j3nny9irL says
yaya I do agree. Those singles were better and in their own pot with the old design? I truly miss ’em so muchhh.
j3nny9irL says
just to add on… I think their palettes and duos qualities aren’t as good as their singles…
ParisB says
*snap* I love those! I wish they didn’t repackage to be honest. Bulky or not, they were iconic Anna Sui! 😀
Lisa says
I so much prefer the new shiseido trios. Color wise so much more interesting. Look more pigmented and price wise…cheaper than Anna Sui.
ParisB says
Teehee can I say I have to agree? 😉 I’m sorta glad these are limited edition. I’m sure Anna Sui can do much much better!
