Spa Village Kuala Lumpur at Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur

September 24, 2010 Paris B 11 Comments

A friend had a voucher for a Buy 1 Free 1 spa treatment at Spa Village Kuala Lumpur. Guess who was batting puppy-dog eyes to be the “Free 1” 😛

spa village kuala lumpur review

Spa Village Kuala Lumpur is on the 4th Floor of the Ritz-Carlton Residences (annexed to the Ritz-Carlton Hotel). Since its smack in the middle of the city, I was not expecting too much in terms of space, serenity and light. Boy! Was I mistaken!

spa village kuala lumpur review

Located off the Health Center on the 4th Floor, Spa Village only admits visitors aged 16 and up. Thank goodness for that! No screaming kids to kill the serenity of the place. It is set up like a tropical style garden with a pool, mock waterfall and day beds.

Enter the cool dim reception area and you can pick your massage package. But we’d pre-booked ours. I went for the Lomi-Lomi massage. Yes, again.

Once the formalites are done (payment etc) We were escorted into a very dark room, where you can relax on large sofas while you are served warm water, a cool towel, and your shoes are taken away from you to be replaced with slippers. There is this weird large LCD tv showing scenes of a waterfall accompanied by the sound of water and chirping birds. Too weird. I’d have preferred if they lightened up the room a little and just had a bubbling water feature.

You are then led to your room – single or double is up to you. We opted for the double (not shy lah!) and although the corridors reminded me of a hotel, the room did not. It is large, airy and roomy, and opens out into a beautiful little courtyard with a bubbling water feature, rain shower and outdoor tub.

You choose your preferred massage oils, change out of your clothing, get under the towel and the pampering begins. I dozed off. AGAIN! Must have been good that massage 🙂 The masseuse are good to check with you the type of pressure preferred and whether you’re alright with it so if it hurts, let them know. They are also very good with your modesty, ensuring your important bits are kept covered at all times which is nice. I’ve been to some massages that leave you lying starkers in the open. Not nice 😛

spa village kl ritz carlton review

After the 90 minute massage, I was all loosened up, and feeling refreshed. It was lovely. There were two things I liked which deserve special mention:-

  • the room temperature was just nice. It was slightly warm which is nice – sometimes massage rooms have their air conditioning on full blast which makes for an uncomfortable session.
  • although you overlook the courtyard you hardly hear any city noises – the glass doors were closed but even then, you barely hear anything of the city. Considering the Ritz Carlton Hotel is located in the heart of a bustling city, its quite something.

You do have to pay to use the other spa facilities so we opted not to 😛 It wasn’t quite as wonderful an experience as the Spa Village Pangkor Laut Resort, but its pretty good for something in the heart of a bustling city.

A 90 minute massage set us back RM335++ but as we had a Buy 1 Free 1 voucher, the cost was halved and thus quite “reasonable”. Gotta admit luxury is something that befits its name – its not cheap! 😛 You can check out some of the rates here.

Still, I guess if you are in need of a nice pampering and have the funds to spare, a good massage will go a long way towards bettering your well being 🙂

If you have tried the Spa Village Kuala Lumpur, I’d love to hear if you enjoyed your experience there too. Now I wanna try the other Spa Villages 😛

Unfortunately the Spa Village pool is separate from the main hotel pool. Quite exclusive no? 😉

looks like a really nice environment! it is no wonder for the price tag 😛 but actually the massage in 1u – daydream (near 1u hotel) is quite cozy, dim, and scented with aromatherapy oil too. i love the place! not crazy expensive as this 😛

I get my massage fix from Urban Retreat in the Curve. Not too bad, and I especially like the hot ginger tea they serve after each massage. 🙂
