Save our Rare Earth with Limited Edition Kiehl’s Rare Earth Mud Mask and local artistes

September 3, 2010 Paris B 10 Comments

For their Save our Rare Earth project this year, Kiehl’s Malaysia has harnessed the artistic creativity of local artistes to raise funds for YAWA (Yayasan Anak Warisan Alam) a local organization that instills environmental awareness in children. 5 local artistes put on their thinking caps and came up with their very own designs for the Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Mask. You can read my earlier review of the mask by following the link. Its pretty good stuff! 🙂 If you buy it, 100% of the proceeds go to YAWA to organize a kid’s camp in November 2010.

Kiehl's Malaysia mud mask designs

You might also have seen the pictures of the 5 local artistes who are working with Kiehl’s on this project, all over the Kiehl’s boutiques – Henry Golding, Aishah Sinclair, Baki Zainal, Jane Ng and Atilia Haron.

I got the chance to take a look at the behind the scenes of the photoshoot recently (Aishah Sinclair wasn’t present as she’s now a new mommy! Congratulations!) and it was fun to sit around and chat to the artistes too.

We aren’t all celebs, but we can share our fave Kiehl’s products and eco-message right here 😉 I’ve shared mine below, after sharing some quick interview questions with some of the artistes involved and you can pretend to be a celeb too! 🙂

Henry Golding – “How many poses can you have with 1 product?!”

Kiehl's Henry Golding

I arrived just as Henry was finishing his shoot so I had the chance to sit around longer with him. He was lovely – don’t be jealous girls 😛 Poor guy was a bit flummoxed by having to come up with a variety of poses with one product – not easy I can tell you!

I asked his inspiration behind his design and Henry said that it was dreamt up with the help of his 14 year old cousin. Who better to ask than the young who will inherit this earth from us! The design was hand-drawn and inspirational. We have just one earth and its fragile, so let’s save it!

Henry’s Favourite Kiehl’s product: “My favourite Kiehl’s product would have to be the Ultra Facial Cream, as when im travelling around filming on locations and all being subject to make up and the elements my skin drys out like a prune! It gives me that moisture revitalization I need 🙂 ”

Atilia Haron – “My Cats – Smeagol and Precious”

Kiehl's Atilia Haron

Atilia is our new petite jazz queen making waves locally. You might have heard her vocals from time to time. The inspiration behind her design came from her 2 cats – Smeagol and Precious. Recognize the names? 😉

Atilia was quick to assure me that they were already about 6 years old and that she’s a Tolkein fan so they weren’t quite named after LOTR: The Movie 😀

Atilia’s Favourite Kiehl’s Product: “I have 2! The surface brightening exfoliator and The pear tree corner hand and body lotion.”

Baki Zainal – “Love is at the center of it all”

Kiehl's Baki Zainal

Baki Zainal was a hoot to watch during the photoshoot and easy to chat to because he feels passionately for the environment. This tv host and founder of the Malaysian Celebrities Go Green (MCG2) professes to be an “eco-centric” and tries where possible to live an environmentally friendly lifestyle – down to changing his hairstyle so he uses less aerosol and hair gel! How about that for dedication!

Baki’s design took 2 weeks to come to fruition and started with the concept of love being at the center of everything. Gotta love the earth before we can save it. As he is fluent in Mandarin, he chose to represent “love” with the Chinese character “Ai” dominating the image.

Baki’s Favourite Kiehl’s Product: Kiehl’s Vanilla Essence Roll On Oil – he’s been using it since he was 11!

Jane Ng – “Love the Environment to avoid global warming”

Kiehl's Jane Ng

Jane Ng is a radio DJ on OneFM (A Chinese language channel) and she most recently won an award for Best Newcomer at the 2010 4th Asian Film Awards. I didn’t realize she was an actress too.

The inspiration for her design stemmed from her wish to ask people to love the environment and earth to avoid global warming. I guess the crying cut down tree says it all.

Jane’s Favourite Kiehl’s Product: “Line-Reducing Eye-Brightening Concentrate – love it because it really can reduce fine lines under my eyes.”

Aishah Sinclair – “I try and live as sustainable a lifestyle as possible”

kiehl's aishah sinclair

New Mommy Aishah Sinclair tries where possible to live a sustainable lifestyle because everything we do has an impact on the planet and the environment. The inspiration behind her design is that it is easy to care for the environment as it is to remember the 3 words – love, respect and nurture. As she says: “If we love something, we will do it no harm. We then nurture it to grow, just like it has been doing for us all our lives. And most importantly is to respect it as it creates lives as well as takes lives too.”

Aishah’s Favourite Kiehl’s Product: “I like the Creme De Corps. Such a luxurious body moisturiser and I love how soft my skin feels afterwards. Great to use after a warm shower.”

The Limited Edition artiste designed Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Mask tubs go on sale starting September 2010 and are available while stocks last. If you have been looking for a new mask, now might be a good time to get one and do a good deed while at it 🙂

What’s your eco-message?

I’m no celebrity but I’m going to share with you my eco-message and my favourite Kiehl’s products so far… because I can 😛 My message would be to “Be Aware” because only by being aware can we realize our impact on the environment and only then can we take steps to reduce such impact. I don’t claim to be a greenie, but I do what I can where I can.

And my favourite Kiehl’s products thus far are the Ultimate White Brightening Exfoliator and the Midnight Recovery Concentrate. The latter is certainly helping my skin recover from a recent breakout so I’m very happy with it 🙂

So let’s pretend you’re a celebrity and I’m asking the questions. What’s your eco-message and what’s your favourite Kiehl’s product? 🙂

I know that its very bad for karma and the environment but… ~stands next to anti-environmentalist movement conglomerates~

    Just kidding!!

Recycle, Reuse and Reduce. Three words, that’s it. ^.^ Sounds corny but its true, and it works. I don’t use any Kiehl’s products, though?

Ooh, I like the Henry Golding design the best even though I’d usually reach for the cats first (LOTR!). Yes, I’m jealous! He looks like he’d be friggin cute in real life

My eco-message is to be frugal. Sometimes the simplest things that we do will help save the environment
Fave Kiehl’s product, Midnight Recovery Oil, for sure!

Sounds like a good product for me. I have oily skin. I’ll save for this and Guerlain Meteorites 🙂 How time flies…only early this year in the MWS open day I was worrying about joining the corporate world, and next Monday i’ll start working.
