Holiday Haul II : The Skincare and Makeup Edition

September 28, 2010 Paris B 63 Comments

Alright many of you asked about the cosmetics, so I’ll share my haul. Where do I start? 😛 I’ll break this down by brand, shall I? Picture heavy – be warned 🙂

Urban Decay

urban decay naked and black palette

Before I left, I had requests from Kahani and Syen to pick up the new Urban Decay Naked palette. We’d been planning to get it from Sephora Singapore but it was not due out then (It is now at S$73) so when I got to London, I hit up the nearest Urban Decay counter at House of Fraser and promptly told the sales assistant to set me aside “3 Naked palettes please!” Its wonderful to say that and not have someone look at you like you are crazy. I then texted both Kahani and Syen to say “We got Naked!” and the replies were along the lines of “Yay!” So you see, Naked isn’t just a state of being between fans of beauty stuff 😀

urban decay naked eyeshadow palette

The Urban Decay Naked palette retails at £27 in the UK which, according to our math, is cheaper than the USA and Singapore so we got a bargain! Yay! 😀

urban decay the black palette eyeshadow

I also picked up the Urban Decay Black Palette (£23), no thanks to Lipglossiping. I loved how pigmented it was and how DARK the colours were. You would never guess it looking at the palette but they apply black with nuances. Love! I love using dark colours and besides, it goes well with the Naked palette to add depth.

Bourjois

bourjois healthy mix foundation concealer rimmmel lash accelerator mascara

At Superdrug, they were running a 3 for 2 on Bourjois (and many other brands) and for some reason, I ended up with the Healthy Mix Foundation, Healthy Mix Concealer and Healthy Mix Brush Concealer. I’d lost all interest in colour cosmetics after Urban Decay so it was just base products for me.

Rimmel

I kept seeing the new Rimmel Lash Accelerator Mascara everywhere so I eventually caved in and got it at £6.99. Promises to promote lash growth. What’s it with brands and the current obsession with lash growth mascara?! We’re seeing it in every level now, from Lancome all the way down to Rimmel!

L’Oreal

loreal youth code moisturizer age perfect

I spotted the new L’Oreal Youth Code moisturizer and I remembered my chat buddy LeGeeque raving about it to me so I picked it up at the promotional price of £10. For some reason, I get the feeling that this is the drugstore cream with the Lancome Genifique technology – we know how Lancome and L’Oreal share technology but I never expected it to trickle down this quickly.

I also got the L’Oreal 360 Perfect Clean Foaming Gel Wash with Scrublet (£4) which I know we aren’t getting here (I checked months ago when I first came across it)

For my Mom I got her the L’Oreal Age Perfect Day and Night Creams which is formulated for mature skin. We do not get this line here at time of writing, although I’d spotted it in Singapore. She’s going to take it for a whirl and if anyone’s interested, she’ll share her thoughts on it soon. Needless to say, she’s quite excited at trying something new. I knew I had to get my experimental streak from somewhere!

Topshop

topshop makeup

Popped by Topshop and I had to see how the Topshop makeup fared. To be perfectly honest, nothing much grabbed my attention. The testers looked a bit grimy but I did end up with 2 cream blushes in Flush (pink) and Neon Rose (coral) (£6 each). They apply sheerer than they look and are alright. Nothing to write home to mother about.

Moroccan Oil for Hair

moroccan oil guerlain cherry blossom

I stumbled upon the Stephan Way hair salon on Bond St. and popped upstairs to enquire about the Moroccan Oil for hair. My hair had been suffering from days of crappy shampoo and was looking like a helmet. The oil is great stuff! I can see why there are so many raves about this online.

Guerlain Cherry Blossom blush

Remember the Guerlain Cherry Blossom blush from Spring 2010? I came by a little pharmacy that had it on sale at £19 so since its cheaper than retail I decided to give it a go 🙂

And that’s it! I checked out Illamasqua at Selfridges but it did not appeal to me for some reason. It might be because the SAs at the counter made no attempt to engage my interest, unlike the lovely SA at Urban Decay who was friendly, chatty and knew her stuff.

Oh and Lush! How could I forget?

lush cosmetics

I walked into Lush to pick out a friend’s order and came out with some soap bars for myself. Got a bar of Foam a Friend (Sexy Peel and Sultana of Soap), Porridge Soap and Ring of Roses. With £20 purchase, I got a fresh face mask free so I chose Catastrophe Cosmetic which is worth £4.95. There is a reason we do not have Lush here in Malaysia – the soap bars were already melting even as I unpacked! They are now stored in my fridge 😛

Sooo…. with so many new toys, which ones are you interested to read about most? 🙂

Oh pleassse do review and swatch the black palatte and naked palatte. And I love to get my hands on your moroccan oil! Naked palatte is sold out within I think four days since it was released in Singapore about two weekends back. I am still very sore over it not getting it in time. I’m now on the waiting list and am crossing my fingers to be able to get it in nov or so with the black palatte and book of shadow 3. I so so so love the naked palatte upon testing it out in the store. And yes, me too lost interest in most eye shadows ever since I tested out the urban decay palattes. The colors and pigmentation are just unbeatable (for now).

I’ll be working on the UD stuff then since they got the most requests 🙂 Naked is permanent (thank goodness!) so we should be seeing more of it around and I was not into any other UD palettes. I’m not a UD fan in general. I had a palette a few years ago that I either tossed or gave away because the quality was abysmal – too glittery and no colour pay off. I think they have improved now and I am still very interested in colour cosmetics, just that since I’d already bought 2 eyeshadow palettes with lots of good colours in there, I wasn’t interested in buying more while on holiday 🙂

Yah I know what you mean about the past urban decay. I’ve only been paying much attention on the brand in this recent month after testing out the naked palatte and reading beauty blogs all over the Internet which affirmed on me again and again that oh yes… I need I need. And I say for now I’m a convert of sort. Hehe. Every year end, I will invest on two holiday collection and this year, I hope I don’t exceed my “wants” list and be contended. So difficult to resist temptation these days. ?

Teehee yep temptation is certainly hard to resist. We just have to be good and work out what we know will work for us so we don’t end up with a bunch of white elephants and then try to sell ’em off 🙂

So we got another Naked fan here! I have it and I truly LOVE it to bits…:D I love your haul, modest yet functional. I’ve looked at another blogger’s haul and to me, she bought too much. I know as beauty bloggers, you have to spend and experiment here and there but there’s only a pair of eyes and lips. And she was wondering where to get in Malaysia..too much la tu.

Anyway, I’d like to hear about your review on Bourjois products. I’ve not used em before and I’d be heading for a trip, so I’d like to know what works and what didn’t. (I’m in search for concealers actually)
