When I reviewed the Hada Labo Tamagohada face wash a couple of weeks back, I showed you the foaming face wash that I got from Singapore. Well, I saw these on the shelves at a local Guardian store and I’m told that here in Malaysia for a limited time. This is “limited edition” here i.e. its available for a limited period only. Its not “Limited Edition” in the sense of not being in production anymore, if you get my drift. So this is a good time to tell you what I think of the self-foaming version.
How does the pump version compare to the tube version? For me, its identical in terms of performance and the primary difference is its ease of use. So if you’re looking for a complete review of the product, please read my earlier review of the Hada Labo Tamagohada face wash. Its fully applicable to this foaming face wash.
In terms of performance, instead of having to squeeze out the cream, and lather it before applying, all you need is one pump of the soft foam to wash your face. Faster to use. I love how soft and thick the foam is and it cleans my skin a treat.
However, after using both the cream cleanser and the self-foaming cleanser, I think there is a very marginal difference between the two.
I personally feel that the cream cleanser leaves my skin feeling smoother and less dry than the self-foaming cleanser. I’m not quite sure why. Perhaps the ingredients are a little different. In fact, even the skin on my hands are also feeling and looking a little dry now, and peeling. Having used both, I prefer the cream version, even if it means an extra step in having to lather up the cream before applying to the face.
The retail price in Malaysia is RM39.90/160ml and this is available exclusively at Guardian pharmacies while stocks last.
Are you swayed to purchase this because of the self-foaming element? I must confess to a love for self-foaming cleansers which was the reason I picked it up in the first place. But unusually for me, I prefer using the cream version of this cleaner instead. How about you?

You had to time this post perfectly for the weekend! Lemmings like me will jump on this immediately 🙂 I’ll probably pick it up to give it a try as the cream cleanser is finished and I am in love with that one. Any idea why it is limited here in Malaysia?

Last I was told that self foaming cleansers do not do well here as the public does not seem to purchase them. Who knows, if the reception is good, they might bring it in permanently 🙂

i haven’t tried the cream so I can’t say for sure which i like better, did you use this everyday? i only use mine every now and then when i need some gentle exfoliation, so i don’t quite feel the dryness. maybe i have oilier skin compared to you, so no dryness! 😛
ParisB says
I use it only in the evenings and more or less everyday. Probably oily skins won’t feel dryness as much as dry skins do. It doesn’t feel tight, just dry.

As fun as this thingy sounds, I don’t think I dare to venture out into other forms of skincare yet… Is that a bad thing?
ParisB says
Well if something works for you and there’s no need to change, don’t 🙂 I’m here to offer alternatives 😉

i dont liek foaming cleansers! always feel it’s very “fake”…i dono…as if the company is shortchanging us by foaming it so that we think we sue alot, but it’s very little product. =P also feel i’ts not enough.
also, i’ve never found another cleanser that works as well as my Bio-Essence thanaka white. try it! it’s only 20 bucks, nothing to lose. lol.

Haha… I love self foaming cleansers because its so easy to use and I love the thick foam I get and the nice cushiony feel on my skin. Its not for everyone that’s for sure! I haven’t tried the Tanaka White cleanser. One of these days I’ll take a look at it 🙂

I feel it is really pricey here in Malaysia than in S’pore even after the exchange rate conversion. Furthermore ours is made in China and not Japan as for the S’pore market.
ParisB says
I’m not sure where this foaming cleanser is made, for the one available here. Personally, I’m just glad its available here at a relatively affordable price for those who do not have the time nor inclination nor wish to travel to Singapore. Besides at current exchange its just a difference of RM5 in pricing 🙂

My main prob with self foaming cleansers is that they don’t last as long as regular foaming cleansers. I bought a Lab Series self foaming cleanser 125ml for RM95 and with twice a day usage it lasted me a little over a month. My current Shiseido Men foaming cleanser (125ml, RM95) has lasted me close to 3 months even with twice a day usage. I just don’t see the value in self foaming cleansers.
ParisB says
That’s true. They do tend to finish up more quickly. Not a bad thing as far as I’m concerned 😛

I think the foam and suds cause dryness. Perhaps self-foaming = more foam = more dryness.

so far ive used 2 self foaming types, vichy purete thermale (in pink bottle) and neutrogena hydro boost. both left my skin feeling dry. especially the neutrogena one, which is kinda ironic cuz its suppose to hydrate.
still its very fun to use: one pump, u get soft fluffy foam. although its drying, it is good for me due to the dryness, it just makes me go and apply some moisturiser, and i usually dont apply moisturisers much, cuz im lazy like that 😛

can i use both hada labo facewash and foaming wash in the morning and evening?
Paris B says
Yes you can if you don’t find it too drying
