Being a bit of an experimentalist, it was quite natural for me to take a gander at the new-ish Biotherm UV Supra D-Tox High protection Supra light fluid sunscreen launched earlier this year. (Let’s just call it Biotherm UV Supra D-Tox sunscreen, shall we?) Its been months now, and what with one thing and another, I forgot to tell you about it.
First off, let me say that I love the packaging. Its so un-sunscreen and so ergonomic and stylish. Not how one usually describes the plain jane tube packaging most sunscreens come in. Its slim, and round and cute as a button!
The Biotherm UV Supra D-Tox is a chemical based sunscreen with L’Oreal patented Mexoryl XL so if you aren’t into that, its time to leave. Texture wise, it reminded me a lot of the Kiehl’s UV Defence sunscreen.
Its got the same lotion type texture, spreading very easily on the skin and feeling light and non oily. It does feel a bit more silicone to the touch than Kiehl’s though. I find an added bonus with the Biotherm UV Supra is that there is a very light citrus scent that makes is very appealing.
What else… no white cast, non oily, and just light on the skin. It blocks UVA and UVB rays with an SPF50/PA+++ rating, and I find it works quite well because my skin does not feel hot or burnt when I’m out in the sun and wearing this.
Like most of the Biotherm products, this one’s infused with the signature Biotherm spa thermal water but as I apply it on top of regular moisturizer, I cannot tell if its helping my skin stay moist.
Like Kiehl’s UV Defence, my sole gripe is price for size. RM140 RM130/30ml is not wallet friendly for something that you need to apply generously on your face every day 🙁 Otherwise, I really like this one too!
Pros: Light, Not oily, Not sticky, No white cast
Cons: Expensive
The directions say that it can be applied OVER makeup during the day. I have no doubt that its possible as its very light and absorbs quickly. I however, have not tried it.
Have you tried this one? I really like it, as I do the Kiehl’s UV Defense sunscreen. Its not quite like me to complain about high prices, but since sunscreen is a product I must apply everyday in rather generous quantities, it really hurts the pocket when I find it depleting faster than a cheaper one that might work as well.
That said, this one (like Kiehl’s UV Defense) seems to work on my skin better than other oilier versions of sunscreens I have been using before this. Might this be a justification for the high pricetag? I haven’t repurchased either, but you know what? I think I want to 😛

Biotherm UV Supra D-Tox SPF50 PA+++ Super High Protection Supra Light Fluid retails at RM140130/30ml at Biotherm counters.
I’m using SpectraBAN SPF 60 PA +++ which I get from my uni’s pharmacy… its a sunblock which is light enough that you can apply it on your face. Non-greasy, no white cast (I’m tanned and it doesn’t show at all), hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, its thick consistency but spread really easily and fades really quickly. The perks is the price. RM17
Hi aoibhealfae, is this sold in major pharmacies?
Nice price! Glad you found one that works for you.
Nice though the price is quite a deterrent considering that it’s 30ml for RM140. Currently quite happy with my Neutrogena sunscreen which cost around RM40. ;p
Yep the price is a little too high for comfort for me. I usually use the La Roche Porsay or L’Oreal ones 🙂
Biotherm has another sumblock which works as a makeup corrector and makeupbase as well, comes in green, purple, and yellow. I used that before. It broke me out, and made my face oily within few hours of using it. Was a total waste of money. I wonder how will this fair on my face…hhmmmm….
Oh I remember seeing those – a sunscreen with correctors. Sorry to hear it broke you out! Not every product is suitable for everyone 🙂
Agreed with the review! Great sunblock and all but the price is really a deterrent! I’m really happy with my Loreal sunblock which blocks UVA and UVB rays with an SPF50/PA+++ rating as well so no complaints there! Moreover the price is awesome! 🙂
The upside of this one vs the L’Oreal one (which I also use) is that this one does not make the skin oily unlike L’Oreal’s. I guess there’s a price to pay for everything LOL!
Hmmm I don’t really recall a marked difference actually… unless I revert back to using the Biotherm sunblock again! 😉
LOL actually the skin getting oily was a common lament of users of L’Oreal’s UV Perfect. I used that for years without quarrel but after doing a bit of comparison lately, I did find that the L’Oreal UV Perfect does make my skin a little oilier. But as I don’t have oily skin to start with, its not all that bad for me – stick with it if it works 😉
urk! what am i then, as i use Dior sunscreen AND makeup base, which is 170 for 30ml. =(
Hey if it works for you, stick with it! 😀 That’s what I always say anyway (plus if you can afford it, who’s to say anything 😀 )
This sunscreen is neat, Paris. but it’s a chemical sunscreen and i read it’s not as good as physical one, am i correct? what physical sunscreen would you recommend dear?
I offered some thoughts on chemical and physical sunscreens in a previous post. I do not use physical sunscreens because I found myself allergic to high amounts of zinc oxide which are present in most physical sunscreens. On a personal note, chemical sunscreens work better for me and so I prefer to use them. Different people have different ideas on what’s better and whether physical or chemical sunscreens are better depends on your skin tolerance and which articles you read. Opinions differ and I am no expert so I just go with whichever suits me better as I believe nothing is really proven other than the fact that not using sunscreen is the most harmful of them all 🙂
I found that I might be allergic to Loreal Perfect Sunscreen. No idea why, or what are the ingredients in Loreal sunscreen that might trigger skin problem? Tried many sunscreen, either they are oily or give me grayish cast.
Yep I came across many people who also found themselves breaking out from the L’Oreal UV Perfect. I guess I’m one of the lucky ones. Its odd that sunscreen should give a grey cast to the skin – usually they give a white cast due to the ingredients. And yes, lots of sunscreen are generally oilier – I think its to do with the ingredients.
I was using this for a while before I switched to ROC Soleil Protextion for Sensitive Skin SPF50+++. Have you tried this? I find it less oily than the Biotherm one and it also acts as a moisturiser for my oily-combi skin. 🙂 Not too bad, price quite friendly too (if I remember correctly it’s around $30-40). It contains avobenzone though.
in terms of oiliness: Most to Least will be Loreal UV (it’s really sticky too!!!) > Biotherm (love the smell but still oily on me) > ROC.
I have always been very curious about the ROC one! So glad someone has a comment on it 😀 I might try it at some point in my life though, knowing me 🙂 After trying so many sunscreens (after I strayed from L’Oreal UV Perfect, I must concur that its one of the oilier formulas out there – probably not quite recommended for those who already have very oily skin. Although they did just launch a matte version 🙂
i think the ROC is worth a try 🙂 there’s another version for normal-combi skin but i choose the one for sensitive skin as there are no fragrance added. btw, the price I stated is in Singapore Dollars. 🙂
Thanks! I’ll take a look when I start running out of sunscreen – we have ROC here too but I never paid attention to it- now I will 🙂
Hmm…I hardly wear sunscreen coz most brands I buy no matter how high or how low the SPF’s are or non oily or oil free it still feels oily on me which is super strange. I did try a sample from Biotherm but I forgotten which one, it still didn’t suit me though and I didn’t like the smell. I decided to try the Got Me Covered with SPF 20++ by Bliv and I just love how it’s so light and cooling after applying it. It actually kept my face quite matte especially my T-Zone area but then it only lasted like 4 hrs max but hey better than other brands which don’t pass 5 minutes. Lately the SPF has increased to 35++ I wonder how it is like coz I am yet to finish the current one. The last time I purchased it was RM90+ for 50ml. Not too pricey for me 🙂
Glad you found a sunscreen that works for you! Isn’t it awful how something so essential can be so hard to find to suit our skintypes? 🙂 I haven’t tried the B.Liv one but there are so many in the market now!
Yes it is so hard! I actually like the sun and it makes me feel refreshed and alive. During high school there is no need for sunscreen and my skin looks so glowy but now with the global warming? 10 mins and I’m burnt! Totally awful… What burns first is the nose and peeling is ugly… yuck… and painful… Grrr… So many brands nowadays you just don’t know which one to try. I’ll just stick to one til it doesn’t work on me anymore one day 😛
For some reason i’m allergic towards Biotherm products, i tried the Biopure range and this sunblock ( the old packaging) and it break me out so bad that i need to see a dermatologist. I’ve since switch to Kanebo Blanchir and using Neutrogena’ Fine Fairness sunblock which is cheap and good!!!!
I couldn’t use the Biotherm Aquasource range too – broke me out. Thus far, the only range that really works for me is the White D-Tox one and now, the sunscreen. I was apprehensive at first – breakouts aren’t something I want to face 😛 Glad you found a sunscreen that works for you 😀
hi,
i would like to know ‘how’ can i re-apply sunscreen? i’m a newbie in using sunscreen 😉 i started using it 2 weeks ago and i will apply the sunscreen on top of all my skincare and before all my makeup. and the problem is sometimes i had to stay under the sun quite long and i feel the need to re-apply it but i’m not sure how to do it. coz i’m scared of smearing my foundation n powders… (my sunscreen is quite watery) or i need to touch up my makeup afterwards( i’m doubt about this coz i don’t feel that hygienic to top my makeup on top of old makeup and new layer of sunscreen and all the dust and sweat… / washing my face and start the whole thing again?? please help. thanks!
The only (and probably best) way to re apply sunscreen is to wash off your makeup and start all over again. Layering too much might cause breakouts especially if you sweat etc. Hope this helps!
