Kat von D Beethoven palette at Sephora is True Romance!

August 23, 2010 Paris B 22 Comments

I have a little secret. I’ve been in a bit of a makeup rut recently. I’ve been feeling quite uninspired … until I rediscovered my Kat von D eyeshadow palette in Beethoven. I cannot believe I have not told you about this beauty!

Kat von D sephora beethovan review

First off, lets get the awful news out of the way. Kat von D is a Sephora exclusive line as in Sephora USA. So its not available here folks! I got mine last year during the Sephora Friends and Family sale, used it for a bit and forgot about it. Well, I’m not about to let that happen again!

Kat von D is a tattoo artist. I don’t blame you if you haven’t heard of her – I haven’t either till I came across this line at Sephora.com. There are quite a few True Romance Eyeshadow palettes under her name and I got Beethoven. I regret it not one bit.

Beethoven has 8 eyeshadow shades of predominantly cool tones. Half are blues and half are purples. Purples? Moi? One would have thought that green toned Ludwig would be my choice. But I’m glad I went outside my comfort zone and got Beethoven because the colours are pigmented and gorgeous.

The slim palette comes packaged like a gift. I made sure I took pictures of the reveal, not something I usually do. The outside of the palette has a gorgeous print ostensibly of one of Kat von D’s tattoos. Its a work of art either way.

Texture wise, the colours are lovely. They are smooth and very very pigmented. They are so pigmented, I prefer to use a brush to apply these colours because they can look a bit patchy if I use my fingers. When I use a brush, they blend better and look better all round. Here is an eye look I’ve done using this palette.

Lucifer + Rad Purple + Galeano

Lucifer + Speed Blue + Tequila

The black shade Lucifer is matte and its perfect for use as a liner. I’ve rediscovered again how easy it is to create an eyeliner from a good dark powder eyeshadow, which gives off a softer look yet defines the eye. I use an angled brush for this purpose. If you enjoy smokey eye looks, you’d love this palette.

If you aren’t into strong colours, you will not like this palette because its easy to overdo it if you aren’t careful. Hence, brushes are the way to go. But not the brushes in the palette sadly. They do nothing for me, except perhaps for lining.

Pros: Lovely strong pigmented shades, Good mix of highlighter, lining base and colour shades

Cons: Unavailable outside of the USA at time of writing

I do hope to get my paws on more of these palettes. Maybe I will during this year’s F&F sale if I can get my makeup mule to help 🙂

Have you tried any of the Kat von D True Romance eyeshadow palettes? They are gorg!

I got a sample of Kat Von D’s eyeshadows *in the form of a generous mini-palette* some time ago from Sephora. Admittedly, I haven’t yet gotten around to trying it out, but seeing how gorgeous the shadows look on your lids I might have to! 🙂 Thanks for the review!

Yup! It was calling my name 😉 I didn’t like a couple that had cream shadows in them because I don’t use them as much and I dislike mixing powder and cream in a palette. I’ll be sure to try her eyeliner if I get the chance to!

Kat von D’s line is Sephora exclusive and since we do not have a Sephora here, that explains the lack of availability. Also overseas Sephora stores may not stock everything they have in the USA. I too am eyeing momento mori
