Guerlain Meteorites Pressed Illuminating Powder Rose Frais

August 18, 2010 Paris B 18 Comments

This is the last of the Meteorites Illuminating Pressed Powders I will be buying for a long while. This also rounds off the colours I have hence the fact I won’t be buying more 🙂

guerlain rose frais review

Rose Frais Meteorites Illuminating Pressed Powder is a pink toned illuminating powder. In actual fact, it does not show up pink on the skin at all. Perhaps if I were to use a very dense brush, I might be able to use this as a very light blush. But since I use it with a fluffy brush as an all over highlighter, it doesn’t show up pink. This is just in case you are wondering how to wear a bright pink powder all over your face.

What it does do is give a gentle illumination and brightening to the skin – pink colours do that. How does it compare to Mythic Parfait and Nacre des Mers? Well, any difference is imperceptible to the naked eye.

However, if I were to be really observant, I’d say there are miniscule differences.

guerlain mythic parfait nacres des mers rose frais compared

  • Mythic Parfait – brightening skin with whitish highlight
  • Rose Frais – brightening yellow based skin without whitish highlight
  • Nacre des Mers – brightening skin but with very slight beige tone

You can read my reviews of the individual powders by following the links above.

In pan, it all looks very different but on skin, its a different story. As I have noted, its imperceptible to the naked eye unless you really pack it on. And you really shouldn’t be doing that.

I like using Rose Frais if my skin is looking a little dull, or if my foundation takes on a slightly yellow tint. It helps my skin look brighter. I can use it on its own over bare skin with just concealer over blemishes or spots.

I use Mythic Parfait for everyday, or if I have a foundation on that might be a little bit dark or if I just want a spot of brighter looking skin.

guerlain rose frais illuminating pressed powder review

Oh and don’t be afraid of the shimmer on top of the Rose Frais powder that you see in the 1st picture above. Once you dust it all off, the powder itself is matte and does not apply with any shimmer. At least not for me 🙂

Pros: Gives a healthy glow to the skin, Brightens and makes dull or yellow toned skin look brighter

Cons: Expensive but lasts a long long time

Which Guerlain Meteorites Pressed Illuminating Powder should you get?

In my opinion, any one you like if you have a neutral skintone. If you have a strong yellow underbase, go for Rose Frais to brighten up your skin. Ultimately, do not expect to see anything dramatic – the effect is very subtle as I’m sure many of you have realized by now.

I believe Rose Frais retails at about RM182 or thereabouts at Guerlain counters. Mine was purchased online.

Now, how many of you have actually caved and purchased the Guerlain Meteorites thus far? I think I need to go claim some commission from Guerlain! 😉

Kidding! Kidding! 😛

You evil temptress you! 😛 You can claim commission off Guerlain for me. 😛

I love the look of the pressed powder more than the loose balls version. And I agree with you that while it is not really all the different on the skin despite how it looks in original form, I can’t help but feel that my skin tone looks a wee bit darker with the brown/yellow of Nacre and that I look a bit flushed with Rose Frais on. So I guess I’ll stick to Mythic and I like the fact that it helps to correct and distract for those days when my skin is showing signs of irritation (redness).

Haha… Glad you find them useful too 😀 Yes Mythic is the most versatile of the lot and the one I use most often – the bumpy surface is already flattening out!

Not sure if this has been asked before, but are the loose ones the same as these?

*hands Jenn a bib* I think its been asked but never mind 🙂 The loose ones apply a little more shimmery (barely noticeable) and are less portable. Effect wise, I find the pressed powder, being a little more matte in application acts more like a pressed powder over foundation than a highlighter per se. Hope that made sense 😛

sigh. my skin has been so darn uneven lately even Guerlain Meteorites have not been helping! *gasp*!

but this looks really beautiful. however, i actually wish the sparkle would go away. i like my face glowy, not matte. or not crap, like it is now.

ur skin really looked good yesterday la, it’s not fair. *humph. folds arms n pouts*

    were u using this?

btw, however blasphemous this may sound, lol…do u think for my age/skin i could use the one essential? i’m reading up your old post on it and it seems that may be what my skin needs.

You need the loose balls version for the sparkle 😉 These apply a little more matte in appearance and I must have been using these yesterday (I use them almost everyday rain or shine) 😉 I don’t see why you couldn’t try One Essential – its supposed to remove the toxins from skin and help skincare absorb better. That is, if you don’t mind that its Sharon Stone being the poster girl and you know how old she is right?!!

Dior’s is a powder foundation, not a highlighter the way the Meteorites powders are and yes I’m eyeing them too 😛

Hi Paris! Thanks for the review! I may get my hands on the compact as well 😉 since u have both (the balls and compact), which one do you use the most? Any different occasion on which kind you use differently? I’m eyeing on the Dior compact foundation as well. Do you when is it gonna be at the counters? Or it’s alreaduy available now? Thanks!

I use the pressed powder and loose pearls interchangeably. The loose ones offer a little more shimmer so there’s more “highlight” while the pressed powder is matte so its just illuminating without shimmer. Pressed powder is more portable and sometimes easier to use but I like the effect from the loose pearls better 😉 As for the Dior Sculpting foundation, I already saw it at the counters 😉 Can’t remember the price though 😛

Can’t wait for your review on Guerlain Meteorites Pressed Illuminating Powder Rose Frais so i put an order from Strawberry.net and i just received it yesterday. Try it this morning. As like you said it doesn’t show up pink on my face but it brighten up my skin. Really love it. No regret for the purchase. You really should claim some commission from Guerlain! 🙂

Like I said before, this is my can’t-live-without item and I really hope they never d/c this simply because I actually like that it brightens without looking like Robin Sparkles (yes, I’ve been overdosing on How I Met Your Mother). You hit the nail on the head with regard to the ‘brightening without whitening’. Have never been a fan of a deathly cast. I’d like to share a little tip that may work for some- try spritzing on some Avene or Evian mist lightly, right after applying the meteorites, which i normally do last. I swear it looks better as the day wears on. Cheers, Paris.
