Fashion is always uncomfortable – True or False?

August 1, 2010 Paris B 12 Comments

Quite a while ago, I came across a retweet from Yani that said:-

RT @annadellorusso: If u like to be relaxed,u will never get the LOOK. Fashion is always UNCOMFORTABLE!

Made me ponder.

Its no wonder I’m not “fashionable” because I value comfort in my dressing over everything else 😛

So I don’t wear gorgeous 4 inch high shoes because I know I can’t walk properly in them and they give my feet (and back) hell. I believe those early years of wearing pointy toed heels have given me bunions the size of tennis balls! 😛

I didn’t wear skinny jeans for ages because I couldn’t find any that would allow me to sit down comfortably and importantly, allow me to breathe!

I don’t wear silk scarves no matter how elegant they make one look because I find them fiddly.

Yet I find myself disagreeing with the statement because I believe fashion can be comfortable – it all depends on your personal style of fashion! Who’s to say we have to be dictated by the runway or mags eh? 😉

Speaking of the runway, the picture above and below are from the Dior Cruise collection for 2011 and I thought that they look very wearable. Fashionable but imminently comfortable. Very possibly duped too for much less – just watch the high street brands in the coming collections 🙂

I love the touches of lace on the suit on the far right picture above. But my eyes were first drawn to the yellow Lady Dior (but of course! 😛 )

I like the 2 floaty silk chiffon dresses in the middle and on the right! They look classic and very comfortable. I’d love to pick up something similar at a more affordable price tag so I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled. 🙂

The 1st picture on the left is for LeGeeque – see the pink LD? 😉

So on a personal note, I don’t quite agree with the statement that fashion is always uncomfortable. I’ll just pick out the comfortable trends and follow those instead and if I can’t, well I’ll just have to make my own fashion! 😉

What about you?

    I see lace! I love anything with lace… 🙂

Back to your question, I do like my clothes to be comfortable and I would rather forgo something that looks awesome fashion-wise but just makes me feel so uncomfortable that it will affect me. After all, it isn’t so much about the clothes you wear, but how you wear them that counts for me.

You’re absolutely right. We could dress in the latest trends and still not look as good as those models rocking them on the runway 🙂

Hmm…I’ll agree that runway fashion is uncomfortable. But being fashionable is about being yourself and expressing who yourself uniquely. It’s possible to be comfortable and stand out at the same time!

I suppose that’s true too. I’m not one to really stand out in my outfits though. It might explain why I’m usually in T-shirts and jeans most of the time

    Happy Sunday everyone!
Well, if one keeps up with those runway kinda fashion (cue in the tight outfits, skyhigh heels), then it wouldn’t be as comfy as what we wear on a daily basis. I agree with you about fashion not need to be uncomfortable. I often scout for clothes that agree with my shape and it needs to be uber-comfy, especially my office attire as I am always on the move in the hospital. Great sense of style can be from anything possible, if one is creative enough. 🙂

I like to pick a trend or two that I know I can wear comfortably (which usually means that I don’t fall down or that I can breathe) and stick with that. I’m really liking those floaty dresses aren’t you? 😀 As for work, I’d wear jeans all the time if I could! Too bad I can’t – I guess fashion just isn’t quite my thing 😉

I played with that pink LD!!!!!! It was bubble gum pink. Cute but not me. Saw this beige with pale gold hardware-yummm…. Contemplating on another LD, should I? :p

On your topic, no, fashion is not always uncomfortable. Think of how unsightly one would look hobbling on 4inch heels because one’s feet are hurting. Unglam-lah! :p

i think fashion need effort, even more to make it seem effortless. but not always fashion is uncomfortable. there are comfort fashion, but of cos depending on the look you are going for. for example, 4 inch heels versus trendy flats, both are fashionable, while one may hurt like hell but giving you height that flats cannot offer. i would say there’s always options when it comes to fashion
