Couldn’t Resist: Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex Serum and ANR Eye Cream

August 10, 2010 Paris B 30 Comments

I’d been resisting the lure of the new improved Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair serum for a long while and when I found out they reformulated the Advanced Night Repair Eye Cream, I was resisting the urge even more.

Well, I went to the Estee Lauder counter yesterday to snag a sample, and I ended up walking away with these.

estee lauder advanced night repair serum and eye cream

Weak-willed! 😛

I blame it on my friend who wanted an eye cream but since we’re sharing these, its (perhaps) not too bad 😀

And because we dropped a lot of moolah, we got ourselves a pretty decent gift set.

Estee Lauder gift set

Not too bad, I thought, coz of the ANR samples.

  • Cleanser
  • Toner
  • Advanced Night Repair 5ml
  • Advanced Night Repair 15ml
  • Advanced Night Repair Eye Cream (new) 5ml
  • Hydrationist face cream 15ml
  • Makeup Pouch

If anyone’s interested, I purchased the items from Isetan Lot 10 and you can swap out the small Advanced Night Repair sample for a similar sized sample of Idealist. Didn’t do it though coz my friend wanted the ANR which was a “better deal” 😛 I haven’t gotten one of these GWPs in ages 😛

I used both of these products (and replenished them) regularly quite a few years ago. It was very good for me and I’m going to see if they are just as good for me now 🙂 If interested, come back in a couple of months and see how I like it 🙂

How do you go about getting samples from counters like Estee Lauder? Are they generous with their samples? Do I have to make small talk with the sales assistants? I’ve always wanted to try some of their stuff but never worked up the nerve to get a sample (feel a little paiseh) 🙁

I was curious about the ANR also and just last Saturday, I walked right up to the SA at EL and explained to her that friends have recommended ANR to me and seeing that the price tag is rather high, I would like to try it out first to ensure that it suits my skin. She bounced behind the counter and gave me sachets of the ANR and the ANR eye cream with no questions asked and no forms to fill in. I told her I knew that the ANR comes on 30ml and 50ml and made enquiry about the prices.

Just prior to going to the counter, I also wrote to Estee Lauder Malaysia stating the same thing and they sent me a voucher to redeem samples at the nearest EL counter.

I think that if you show you’ve done your research and that you genuinely want to try it out rather than trying to be “kiasu”, they have no problems with giving out samples. So don’t be afraid to ask! =)

You’re right Isabel. I usually ask nicely and most times they will give at least 1 sample sachet. Best is to be nice cos the SA’s are human too 🙂

Just go up to them, smile and ask if you can have a sample. Most SA will give a sachet. Been doing it for ages 🙂

sigh. i am breaking out. i have 3 pimples. i dono why. it could be the face shop’s jeju facial mist which i just purchased yesterday. or my new hair conditioner.

anyway my lancome serum is running out and i saw your post and felt so nostalgic cause the Idealist skin refinisher last time made my skin AMAZING. but i really dont know if it would now. =(

also i wanted to try that new shiseido serum, the one in the gold bottle. promises to whiten and take away spots, and i REALLY NEED that because NONE of my skin stuff is whitening and my pimple scars are really bad! they are just red spots that arent raised or pitted, put discoloured.

what does this ANR do anyway?

ANR is an all round repair serum with antiaging properties. When I used it before, it gave me glowy great skin and helped me then even out my skintone. It also helps your skin absorb other skincare better. The new formula has hyaluronic acid too and various other DNA stuff – DNA sound familiar? 😉

Gah! Why issit when i’m lemming for something it keeps on popping up in front of meeee!! lol!! 😀

I’ve been lemming for the whitening version of this one for MONTHS now!! My colleague just switched to using this one and she looks fab! 😀

BTW the counter at Gurney Plaza refused me a sample just last Friday! Wonder if this is because of me being in shorts and t-shirt… >:(

Teehee! I tried the Whitening one many years back but didn’t find it exceptional. Still preferred the original 🙂 and sucks about the counter refusing you a sample! I got a couple from that same counter when it was first launched months ago (was in Tshirt and shorts too)

      Jenn,

Try the one at Jusco, QBM. That’s where I got mine =) I guess it also depends on the SA around. Some SAs can be downright nasty but most are pretty okay.

Paris: Strange right? Stranger still, the very same SA gave my friend a sample when she was at the Queensbay counter! Maybe she just sees me no up! 🙁

Isabel: thanks!! Yeah i’ll definitely go get from there! 😀

Just guessing that maybe she thought you looked too young to afford it and hence she thought you were a time waster. Still its no excuse – even if you do look very young! 🙂

How long does a bottle of serum last?

Goodness! I can’t tell as of now but previously safely a bottle would last me 4-5 months cos you only use it once a day.

I tried a sample of the serum but sadly it didn’t seem to do anything at all for me, apart from moisturizing my skin. I hope you get better results than me though. And what a great GWP you got!

I’ve just bought this so I don’t have any views yet. Both are night serums to help your skin recover at night. My guess is that both serve a similar purpose – just by different brands.

I’ve tried their Advanced Night Repair Eye Cream before. It was a good thing it was a sample because it made my eye lids so dry it started flaking, which in turn irritated my eyes. I have dared to try it since then. Still, I liked their Idealist line quite a bit and is still using that.

    Hi Paris,

How do you normally apply the ANR eye cream? Do you dot the cream around your eye area and massage it with the plastic roller that comes with jar or do you spread and rub the cream on your fingers before massaging it around the eye area like how you would do for a face serum? Do you also apply it on your eyelids? It was my first time using it last night and I woke up with a swollen eyelid this morning. Just one eyelid was swollen though, so not sure if it was caused by ANR or something else.

The plastic thing that comes with the jar is not a roller. Its a spatula. I dip the ball end of the spatula into the ANR eye cream and dot it on my 4th finger. Then, I spread it on the 4th finger of my other hand and then lightly pat in around my eye area including my lids. This was how I was taught to use it many years ago when I first bought it and this is how I’ve been using all eye cream since 🙂 Hope your swollen lid wasn’t caused by the cream.
