Yesterday, I asked you to take a guess at what this gadget might be. We had a couple of you guessing and many many sleuths so a whole bunch of you hit the nail on the head 😀
In my case, when I first saw it a couple of months back, I thought it was a prop off Star Trek. It was all I could do to stop myself from holding it out like a phazer and try to zap a Romulan or Klingon 😛 Thankfully, no I did not do it. I don’t think Talika America President Mr. Francois Laurent would have been very amused at my antics if I did! 😛 I did concede to say it was very “futuristic”.
What this gadget is, is a skincare gadget to help lighten your skin of dark spots. Imagine if you will, undergoing colour or light therapy in a salon without salon prices. Man has known for years that light emitted at different frequencies, can help with different problems – you might have heard of chromatherapy – I’ve always wanted to try it in a salon but never got round to because not many places do it at an affordable price.
Light 525 is a new gadget product by Talika. Yes, that very same company that brought us Lipocils Expert. So what is this gadget and what does it do?
What Light 525 is is a handheld gadget that will fit right in with your lifestyle amongst your iPod, iPhone and iPad. Its small, sleek and white 😛 No, its not called iLight 😛 Its even rechargeble from your USB port.
When turned on, it emits a green light at the 525 nm frequency continuously and in a controlled manner, to help clarify the skin tone and prevent and reduce dark spots. Its meant to help those who have pigmentation problems or uneven skin tone as it will prevent melanin growth and help lighten existing dark spots.
Since its just light, there is nothing harsh and abrasive to put on your skin nor is there an invasive procedure like undergoing laser treatment, which has been the only real way to “cure” hyperpigmentation.
To use it, turn it on and hold it about 3cm from your skin, all over your face or body or wherever you want, for 3 minutes, once a day. It turns itself off after the time is up, so there’s no “over exposure”. Being a bit of a geek, I was very intrigued by this little gadget.
However, the price tag of RM1,250 will be a barrier for me and for most, I’m sure. Still, its about the price of a new mobile phone or gadget so I can’t really say that its super expensive. Most gadgets are pricey anyway.
Its also possibly cheaper than undergoing laser treatments or salon treatments or even trying out new skincare products that might or might not work, or might even thin your skin. But I console myself with the thought that my pigmentation problem is not as bad as I think it is, and in the worst case scenario, there’s concealer 😛
But if you have thought about going for laser treatment, or are spending a lot of money on treatments in salons to lighten your skin but aren’t seeing the results you want, I guess the Talika Light 525 will be worth a shot. Hey, if you’ve tried everything else, why not this? 🙂
The Talika Light 525 will be available at all Talika counters from July 2010. I’d love to own it if only to play at Star Trek LOL! 😀
Oh and apparently, there is one with purple light targeted at acne prone skin but it isn’t in yet. Now that one might attract more attention! 🙂
If you have tried this, or know someone who has, or will be trying this, do share your experience with us. Does it work as it claims to? Its very intriguing I can say for certain!

Talika Light 525 Skin Lightener is available at all Talika counters from July 2010 and retails for RM1,250 each. You can read about it here.
UPDATE! For a limited time, the Light 525 is retailing at RM899 each and yes you can use it as a preventative measure – at RM899 its bloody tempting me 😛
Talika counters are at Parkson Pavilion, Parkson KLCC, Parkson 1 Utama and Parkson Gurney, Penang.
Shyra says
Yeay! I guessed it right! :p I wonder if it really works? Hmm..hopefully there’s someone out there can share it here 🙂
ParisB says
I’ve no idea if it works – clinical tests say it does but without trying we won’t know will we? 🙂
Jenn says
You got me really interested about this product!! Yeah the price is hefty, but it costs slightly lesser than laser treatment, and not as “invasive” i guess??
But yeah, i’m waiting for more reviews on this product first!! 😀
ParisB says
Yup! Not invasive and you can do it in the comfort of your own home – everyday 😀 I was interested too but at that price tag its more of “Let’s wait and see…”
shuaddict says
Star Trek! Think it will be like a decontamination machine in the Trek universe lol
It thought it was big like those robo vacs but it’s just the size of your palm. It sounds great but the price tag is a real deterrent.
ParisB says
Haha! Decontainment machine! Yeah its actually small – handheld only and its cute!
domncroxd says
OHMAIGOSH why so expensive?! I don’t know if you’ve seen those cheapo torchlights that people sell – my ex had one of those and when we dropped it, the light changed to that same shade of eerie alien green. Maybe I’ll just get that and shine away ; ). Great post btw!
ParisB says
Its a gadget ma… few gadgets come cheap 😛 But I know the torchlights you’re talking about – maybe if you can tweak it to shine at 525nm you could use that too! hehe 😉
AnT says
Oh Paris! This is cool stuff! 😀
I wonder if I don’t have brown spots or dark spots, can start using as part of the preventive measures?
The price would be reasonable in the long run if I am not the only one using it at home… my parents and my brother can use it as well.. cool!! 😉
xoxo
ParisB says
If you think in the larger picture, YES! Hehe… If you can get 5 people to use it, the cost is just 20% 😉 I’m actually not sure if you can use it as a preventative measure. I think its more of a “cure” rather than “prevention” although if you don’t have brown spots but have uneven skin tone, it could help with that too.
AnT says
LOL Yes because I am trying to look at the bright side… 😀
Really will consider getting one because I do have uneven skin tone 🙁
Just got to use it everyday.. holding it for 3 minutes.. once a day… wow… cool!! 😉
ParisB says
That’s what I was told – 3 minutes a day. Sounds great eh? And it looks good too hehe…
ParisB says
ANT! It just got cheaper LOL Apparently its RM899 for limited period and you can use it as a preventative measure. Hey, if you do get it, do share your thoughts on it yeah? 😀
AnT says
Hey Paris! LOL. Have you gotten yours? LOL 😀
I did not realise your comment here until I come back to tell you that I saw the Parkson’s website latest news says that it’s 899MYR! LOL
Yes yes! I will share my thoughts once I get it. Hope I could get it when I get the chance this week! Yay!! Thanks so much! 😀
ParisB says
Nope I didn’t get it heh… I believe its RM899 while stocks last… which might be for a while 😉
DC says
Hi AnT,
From your e-conversation, it looks like you may be interested to purchase the Talika 525 device. I received one recently and since I don’t have spots/pigmentation problem(thank God!), I wonder if you would like to buy it off me at a very special price. Please email me at [email protected] if interested. Thanks!
Nikki says
I hit the nail! lol the wrong nail! hahahah I am still recovering from my vacuum cleaner comment! 🙂 I have a feeling its for the face but it does look like a vacuum cleaner you know! Been seeing it on Japan tv shows! 🙂
I hopeit works and I’ll definitely give this a try for my mom in law 😀
ParisB says
LOL! Yes I know which vacuum cleaner you mean – I’ve been wanting to get that vacuum for my house forever! hehe…
blue says
That is one expensive beauty gadget! And I thought the Clarisonic was pricey…
Haha would love to take it to those Star Trek conventions here 😀 Maybe someone should do a video parody with this gadget – it’d be good advertising for Talika!
I will have to swatch Petticoat for you this weekend – can’t really remember how it looks on the face! When does it come out in Malaysia? What shade are you btw in MAC, out of curiosity? I haven’t tried Stereo Rose on my face yet but it is quite similar to some blushes I already have, so I think its going to be fine on me. Will update you 🙂
ParisB says
haha yes yes! I’ve never been to a ST convention. I wonder if we even have them here 😛 But it’d be great won’t it? Talika Light 525 as phazer or tricorder whee! 😀
Thanks for letting me know about Petticoat. I’m not sure what I am. I think NC25/30? Something like that 😛 Also not sure when it’ll come out here but Petticoat is so legendary (like Stereo Rose) that I just have to see if I’d like it as much as I do Porcelain Pink!
Michelle says
If you try it then we will know if it works. Come on, do it for us. Haha. I’m intrigued by this one too. Wonder why 525nm will lighten pigmentation. Did it say? Has it got something to do about the frequency spurring our bodies and skin to break down melanin?
ParisB says
Er… yes and yes about the frequency thing. The way I don’t own the latest iThings I can’t do beauty gadgets – I’m just not dedicated enough although I love slapping things on my skin LOL
lemon says
better check it out if there are any side effects…and if it really works? proven?
nice weekend!
Shanghainese Dumpling says
Wow this sounds amazing!!! I soo want one but the price tag is too heavy, but then again if you add all those whitening serums that we use through out the year it should pay off this machine with no problem, I guess it’s a long term investment, except in one go.
I think they should do a payment plan 🙂
ParisB says
LOL I guess you could put it on the credit card and then get the bank to split it into installment payments 😀 The banks will be happy to
sharon says
where i can buying tis product if i staying at ipoh ??
ParisB says
Its only available at the locations mentioned. Perhaps you can check the next time you’re in KL
Dee says
I’m not one to normally write reviews about any products. But just had to do one on Talika’s Light 525 cos it didn’t work on me! I was diligently using it twice a day. On the 7th day I noticed the brown pigmentation / freckles on my face (which it’s supposed to lighten) had became even more prominent (darker brown)!!!! I’m so pissed off cos now only is the stupid gadget really expensive (I bot mine from Sephora at Taka for about $600) but it actually made the problem much worse than before :(((
MIchelle Parks says
It’s interesting that the device is not available in America even tho’ it’s “Talika America”! I think it’s not approved here yet – maybe not tested enough to be safe? Also how long does the bulb last? Might be really costly to replace or need to buy a new gadget? Some kinds of wavelengths cause cancer in the long run. For that kind of money, it is better to get laser treatment from a doctor?
chris teoh says
Please let me know, where can I buy the talika light at johor bahru?
ParisB says
Its not available in JB for now I believe, only KL.
Mesmie says
I had bought mine a month ago and I’m glad it works well on me! The brown spot on my cheeks lighten from the center and it spread to the whole spot. I’m still using it religiously but some days I might forget and was too lazy to use it but still, it hasn’t gotten any worse. I’ve noticed 3 weeks after my used, it lightens more from the center and it was very noticeable because you can see the color difference. The light lasted me a month without charging which is good but you’ll get the time shorten when you used on each areas (approx. 2 or less), so it’s best to keep it charged at least once a week. I hope I’ve contributed some answers to the questions above. Oh, and yes, I bought mine from Talika website with the price list in AUD and I believe the stock came from Hong Kong because I was being told that my order was transferred to marketing department in Hong Kong and after a week I received the package. It fared at AUD 315 if I’m not wrong.
Bruno Peres says
Hello, Mesmie.
I’m from Brazil and I’m thinkin’ about it… I want to buy but.. Is it really worth it ?!
In Brazil I can buy it for $ 230,00.
Well… how long it works ? I mean… the light stops work in a while ? I can use the same machine for a hole year ? I dont want to buy..use for a month and the light stops after that..
Can u help me ?!
Thanks!!
Mesmie says
sorry, it was (approx. 2 mins or less) …my mistake..XD
Mesmie says
I have to add that the brown spot lighten twice in a month and it still doing its job. So, to be exact, it lightens itself thrice on me since my purchased. LOLx…I’m overly exhilarated with the results. Even so, I never stop using spot pigmentation treatment cream(or liquid- I’m using Loccitane) after every Talika light treatment.
connie says
3 minute for one part per day? if want lighten body and face…how?
when the stock will launching in malaysia?
Mesmie says
Hey, connie, just dropping by to see if anyone reply to my post..XD…well, i’m not sure about that, i guess u need an extra large light instead of a handheld treatment light…wish they could have a larger ones for body but speaking of that, how largely spread are your spots on body and face?
DC says
Hi Connie,
If you are interested in getting the Talika 525 device, please email me at [email protected]. I’ve received a unit recently and since I have no use for it, I’m willing to let it go, at a very good price. Thanks.
