Revlon Ocean Breeze Nail Polish did not remind me of the sea but Firecracker Lipgloss is a cracker!

July 21, 2010 Paris B 22 Comments

A couple of weeks back, I was at Guardian Pharmacy when I noticed the new Daydreamer collection display at the Revlon counter. I twitpic-ed it if you remember (and are on my Twitter and Facebook lists 🙂 )

Anyway, it was a rainy night and I was feeling bored so I picked up the bright turquoise colour called Ocean Breeze. The intention was to go home, shower and paint my nails a bright happy blue before going to bed.

Little did I know what a mistake that was. The attempt took me more than 30 minutes and after everything was over, I cleaned it all off in irritation.

I don’t know if I got a dud bottle, but the polish was so thick going on that it wouldn’t spread properly. I did not have that problem with Red Hot Tamale before which applied like a dream.

Secondly, I don’t know if it was the formula or the brush, but I could not get it to apply without streaking. It looked so horrid! I cleaned it all off immediately 🙁

Over the weekend, I attempted it again. Similar results. Thick goopy nail formula and horrid brush that applies streaky. Sigh… what a dud. Lovely colour, but pity I can’t use it.

Ocean Breeze is part of the new and limited edition Summer collection for Revlon by their new artistic director Gucci Westman (who was previously with Lancome before Aaron de Mey came on board). I must say the color is beautiful if you manage to get it right but perhaps I’m too impatient or just don’t have the right skills too apply nail polish properly.

Oh and this new nail polish is scented. When it dries, there is a strange perfumed scent that replaces that sharp chemical smell I usually associate with nail polishes. It makes me think of guava for some reason – I’m not a fan of the scent.

Pros: Gorgeous summery colour

Cons: Applies thick and streaky for me, Not a fan of the scent

I hope the rest of the collection fares better, especially that new Superlustrous lipgloss in Firecracker!

You gotta love that colour and you might be happy to know that it applies a little sheerer than it looks. I’ll run my review soon once I get on top of things but you will be happy to know that this is a new shade to complement the existing Superlustrous lipgloss collection and is not limited edition. Yay! 😀

Paris B

Revlon Ocean Breeze nail polish is limited edition and retails at RM19.90. Revlon Superlustrous lipgloss in Firecracker is a new shade and retails at RM36. Available at Revlon counters.

Wow, I never tried Revlon’s lipglosses or nail polish before. ^.^ I guess I’ll go with firecracker when I’m done with my Rimmel ones. ^.^

Well that one’s a good introduction to red for the lips 🙂

Yeah… Revlon polishes are like that sometimes! I’ve had a few bottles with beautiful texture, and some are just plain goop!

And oh, i’m wearing Red Hot Tamale on my toes now!! 😀

I love Red Hot Tamale! It makes me happy hehe… but that really sucks about the different quality found in different Revlon nail polishes. I loved how Ocean Breeze looked in the bottle and when I managed to apply properly on one nail 😛

I’ve bought the Coral Reef lipgloss recently as it was on a tempting price at RM25.90 in Guardian. Its texture is glossy and quite a lasting colour on my lips but I think it’s scented but not too heavily like Rimmel lipstick.

Yes there’s that Superlustrous lipgloss scent that you either can stand or can’t. I love the texture of Superlustrous lipglosses but not so much the scent 😛

Wow that Ocean breeze really is a gorgeous colour. Too bad, the texture sucks!
I was tempted to get it in the store the other day…maybe I won’t now 🙁

I do wonder if I got a dud. Perhaps if someone else did buy the same one, it’d be good to know if its a dud or not

Ocean Breeze is such a gorgeous color! I have a few revlon nail polish bottles and it usually works fine for me. But of course I prefer getting it done outside coz I’m just bad at applying nail polish by myself.

I really really suck at applying nail polish. When I can do my left hand, my right will be a mess 😛 So I usually just apply on my toes because mistakes are more forgiving

I saw it on 15% off, ~S$7 at Caring Pharmacy yesterday, and I so wanted to get it. haha, all four of it, especially the violet one.

Thank goodness I procrastinated one day!

To be honest, I only have two other bottles of Revlon Nail Enamel. One of them is a sort of red, the colour, I like. But I have slight problems with the thinness of it and chipping.

Gosh, didn’t expect yours to be so thick! I thought all Revlon are pretty thin like mine.

But this colour you are using reminds me one I have from Sephora… Quite similar, imo. haha, so maybe will give this a miss.

There’s a fuchsia one that’s quite pretty too! It isn’t as shimmery so maybe it won’t be as goopy as this one. I guess I am just not much of a nail polish girl. The longest I can have polish on my finger nails is maybe 3 days before I start picking at it 😛

This blue is such a pretty shade, reminds me of Teal the Cow Comes Home by OPI. Really nice too..
Something that might help u- put a drop or 2 of polish thinner and im sure it wouldnt be tht thick or hard to apply:-)

And much cheaper than OPI! I don’t have polish thinner since polishes aren’t my thing. Might just hand it over to anyone who could use it… Maybe for nail art or something

Hmm… and I was planning to get the purple Gum Drop 🙁 I can only use pearl/shimmering color, because I sucked at applying pastel colors. They always look streaky on me!

I’m the same. Shimmery polishes tend to be more forgiving.

Hey, I think you may have gotten a dud.. I couldn’t resist the color and got myself a bottle, the polish is quite watery and applies nicely, really like the multi-coloured shimmers giving off a metallic look. 🙂
