Clarins Everlasting foundation : Can it last 15 hours? We find out!

July 14, 2010 Paris B 18 Comments

I’ve never used Clarins’ foundations and it took me a while to decide if I’d like the Clarins Everlasting Foundation. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I am averse to full coverage liquid foundation because it feels heavy and cakey on my skin. In our local hot and humid weather, its a no no for me.

So, the Clarins foundation is medium coverage at best, just how I like it. You can layer extra for more coverage where you need it, but I don’t – I rely on concealer for this purpose. I use Vanilla 106 a colour that seems to suit my skintone to a T. I thought I’d take a lighter shade but thankfully I did not. What this foundation does for me is even out my skintone, as all foundations should do.

It hides redness in my skin and gives a more even base on which to build the rest of my makeup. I do apply some loose or pressed powder over to set it, and I do use the Meteorites powders everyday but even then, it does last on me the whole day (I do not have very oily skin) and I somehow feel that it helps control oil, even. Don’t quote me on it – I just feel that my skin feels more matte throughout the day compared to when I use other foundation and I don’t get shiny around the T-zone.

The formula is a little thick but it feels light on the skin. I only use 1 pump for my whole face, and I apply it the way I was taught i.e. the same way I apply moisturizer. You get a much more even look this way and its much faster! I must admit that it can look a little “flat” on the skin if used alone, so lately, I’ve been mixing it with some skin illuminators (I Nuovi Heaven Illumina for me) and it looks much better this way. Does it last 15 hours? I put it to a test.

Before that, one drawback I’ve found is with the packaging… or it might be the formula. Because the liquid is a bit thick, when it dries, it can clog up the pump nozzle. I did not realize this after not using it for a while, and it was stuck and spattered everywhere. So that’s a bit of a bummer.

Otherwise, I’m happy with this foundation since it looks good on my skin and does not break me out and best of all, does not oxidise! A 30ml bottle retails at RM125. You only need 1 pump at any time, so this one will last you ages and ages! There is a fresh scent that reminds me of watermelon but it dissipates and there is SPF15 which isn’t sufficient in my book, but there you go.

Pros: Lightweight on skin, Medium coverage, Not oily, Lasts on my non oily skin for er… ever

Cons: The residue can clog the pump nozzle, Colour can look a little “flat”

Clarins says that this Everlasting Foundation can go on and last for up to 15 hours. I could not put this claim to the test because I never have makeup on that long. What I did instead was to put the foundation on in the morning, and then take it through a vigorous yoga class in the evening where I was sweating buckets. Actually, it was unintentional as I was running late and did not have time to remove my makeup before class. But what better test!

You can see that my skin still looks pretty decent after 12 hours and a vigorous yoga class! The redness around the nose is where it was starting to wear off. That splotch of red on the cheeks is from MAC Petticoat MSF which survived, and so did the L’Oreal Chrome Intense eyeshadow – who was it who was asking if the L’Oreal shadow would last the day? Answer – yes it does.

I find it strange how I’m finding the new liquid foundations easier to like. Perhaps the new formulas are more lightweight and so easier for me to wear it without feeling like I have a mask on.

Oh one more thing – you see that little indentation in the cover of the foundation? I asked what it was for (I initially thought it was the nozzle) but I was told it was just design. Hmph 😛

Tried this one yet? I never thought I’d say this but this liquid foundation is a star! 🙂

Ah, Paris – that’s also because you have fabulous skin to begin with! 🙂 But great review, I’ve never tried a Clarins foundation, maybe it is time?

Do you like it better than Dior foundation? I always wanted to try this one and everytime I try to get a sample, there is no one at the Clarins counter..

Hmm… that’s a good question. I think the answer is No. I like them both equally. This Clarins one because it seems to keep my skin matte all day, and the Dior one, because that gives a nice glow when I use it. This one tends to be a little flat. Also, the Clarins foundation tends towards yellow tones (might suit those with a yellow base better than Dior which tends to pink)

Thank you so much for that Paris!
Yeah, I tried the Dior foundation and sprayed MUFE Mist & Fix and my skin looked soooo good! Now I am trying very hard to finish off my Shu Face Architect foundation, so I won’t feel bad buying yet another foundation! 😀 I saw Sephora has Dior foundations in both yellow and pink bases.. I still want to try Clarins foundation though (thanks for the lemming :))

I am worried, if on the long run, the residue frm foundation maybe stuck to the skin (everlasting) and cause the face to look yellow? I dunno, that’s why I am not a foundation person…..

You must have great skin all over the rest of your face! But what a great way to save on foundation 😉

Thanks for the review. Your skin looks flawless! I’ve almost finished my YSL foundation and was looking for something else to try that feels lightweight on but has decent coverage so I think I might check this out. 🙂

Do try it and I hope you’ll like it 🙂 It does tend to have strong yellow/beige tones though so I hope you find a colour match

I bought this foundation the other week but couldn’t quite articulate how it made my skin look, now you’ve mentioned the colour looking a bit flat i totally agree!! It’s a shame because it really does last , I might try and mix it with a bit of highlighter or something to see if that will help! thank you for another great review 🙂

    Hi Paris,
I’m very new to your website but I’ve liked what I’ve been reading and even learned some new makeup tricks!
I was wondering if you have or if you will try a new foundation I’ve just heard about. It is by Jay Manuel (from America’s next top model). The foundation is “powder to creme”. I haven’t heard or read any “middle of the road” comments about this product it is either a ‘love this never using aby thing else’ or ‘hate it worst foundation ever’. It’s not overly expensive – I think it runs $30.00-$40.00 but I don’t want to buy it just yet. I don’t think it is in retail yet, but can be purchased online.
I really like the way you write about a product, and explain how it works, feels, lasts etc.. So before I switch my foundation for something new (I’ve been using the same brand foundation for 8 years now). But powder or liquid I’m willing to try something new as long as it works and doesn’t clog my pores.
Would you be willing to try it and give your no holds bar honest opinion on it before I sink 40 bucks into something that could be horrible and clog my pores, giving me an acne breakout? I’d love to know if it’s a good product.
    Thank You,
    Isabella

Hi Isabella, thanks for leaving a comment! I’m afraid I haven’t actually come across this Jay Manuel foundation, nor do I know where to get it. I don’t think it’s available where I live, but if it is, and I do try it, I’ll blog about it at some point in the future. Hope you’ll find someone who can help you! I’m sure there are other reviews online that you can consider 🙂
