I really should listen to my instincts next time I walk into MAC Cosmetics. I wanted to get the MSF in Light but was persuaded that Medium Light would be right for me. Under the yellow lighting in the store, it was.
Outside, its a teeny tiny shade dark for me. Its not so that its noticable, but it doesn’t “brighten” my complexion. Nothing a dusting of Meteorites cannot fix. Is there anything it can’t I wonder 😉
So with that opening gambit, you might think I hate the Mineralize Skin Finish powder. Au contraire! I like it.
I use it as a setting powder for liquid foundation and I even use it on its own sometimes on lazy days when I feel my skin is up to it. I am a fan of sheer foundation so I’m happy with it going on sheer.
If I want more coverage, I use a denser brush. If I use it as a setting powder for liquid foundation, I use a fluffy brush. It does brush a little “dusty” which gives me the impression that this powder is a little loose and might shatter quite easily were I to drop it. So I don’t travel with this one 😛
Used as a setting powder, it does make my makeup look pretty good. My skin looks matte and finished pretty much all day long. As the shade is a touch dark, I still need my Meteorites to brighten my complexion but it otherwise gives a lovely natural look without looking cakey or overdone.
Pros: Light coverage, Looks natural, Can last a long time
Cons: Seems a little fragile
I might not be MAC Cosmetics’ biggest fan, but I do like their Mineralize Skin Finish Natural 🙂 There! Surprised? 😉
Have you tried this one and if you have, do you like it? I know Connie does – she was the one who sent me in the direction of this one 😉

MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural retails at RM115 at all MAC Cosmetics counters and stores.
OOOOO. I’ve been wanting to try this for a long time now, haha. Thanks for the review!
You’re welcome!
I love this for retouching PB, I just finish mine up and mine is in Light and you’re way fairer than I am! 😀
Thanks Nikki! I shall repurchase in light once this runs out – might actually finish it! haha
i have this “shade choosing” problem too and i’ve walked out a few times feeling regret because the SA chose a darker shade for me or a shade that’s too yellowish for me.. hmm i wonder why and yes we should listen to our own instinct next time. But thank god for the meteorites right? I have em’ too 😉
Ya the lighting in store is really crappy anyway so I don’t know why SAs don’t listen to us sometimes. This time, I shall put my foot down and the few times I have, I’ve gotten a better colour match than any SA has ever done for me! We know ourselves best and yay for meteorites!
I agree with Nikki – i’m Light too, so you’re definitely “Lighter”! hahaha!! 😀
Funnily enough, i never felt the urge to pick this one up though i’m a MAC fan (understatement). But i do like it whenever my MA used it on me during makeovers! 🙂
Time for you to pick it up Jenn! I’m shocked you don’t have this! 😉
Why does Guerlain Meteorites work so well for you? sigh, it does absolutely nothing for me. I dropped it as fast as it came. crap for me…
thanks for reviewing MAC MSF. I have only tried petticoat and really loved it.
Oh this is quite different from the coloured skin finishes but its really good and sorry the Meteorites didn’t work for you – I just got the new formula! 😉
I really enjoyed this foundation for a while. However, it seemed to get really cakey on me later. So I stopped using it. But now I’m thinking it may have been because I slapped on too much liquid + too much of the powder that made me look cakey kuz my skin went through problems (that i had to cover) for a while.
After reading this review, I think I’m going to start using it again tomorrow! 🙂
I find that when using it as a setting powder over liquid foundation, it works better to use a fluffy brush to apply just a light layer of this powder over the foundation. It prevents the cakiness 🙂 Hope you get it to work for you! 😀
You’re definitely not Medium Light!
Ahh… My trusty MSFN. I love the buildable coverage and it never cakes on me!
Thanks to you! Else I don’t think I’d have looked at this 😛
For some reasons, I don’t know what… 😛 I was never interested in checking out the MSF natural powder. It’s strange considering I’m a MAC junkie. The only 2 powder products I buy from MAC are MAC Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder and Blot Powder.
I find it absolutely fascinating that the 2 MAC fans here aren’t into this powder! I wonder if that’s telling us something 😉
I believe it breaks me out. Everytime I’m in the store trying out new blushes, my MA will apply MSF natural powder on me first. The next day I find a little pimple on the spot. My skin reacts really fast when it comes to something it doesn’t like 😀
I’m no big fan of mac either but do get my hands once in a while on their stuff as my sis works for mac. One other powder I don’t mind using (I like it alot actually) is mineralize SPF 15 foundation / loose in light. I’m nc20. But my favourite powder at the moment has got to be Elizabeth arden’s pure finish mineral powder SPF 20.
Ah I remember seeing the mineralize powder too – You got me intrigued by the Elizabeth Arden one simply because no one talks much about Elizabeth Arden!
my absolute favorite 🙂
I love this and have one in Light. Been using it everyday to “set” my liquid foundation. Sometimes I just use it on its own and it still works great 🙂
I love this! I also use it the way you’ve described – I think it’s perfect as a setting powder over liquid foundation. 🙂
