L’Oreal Red Passion Lipstick as promised in 2 shakes of a lamb’s tail

June 30, 2010 Paris B 19 Comments

Last week, I showed you a picture of the new L’Oreal Made for Me Intenses lipstick in Red Passion. I also promised you a review in 2 shakes of a lamb’s tail … and then real life took over. Call it a slow motion shake of a tail k? 😛

So, now that I’ve gotten my urgent work stuff out of the work (temporarily) I needed something to brighten my mood and voila! Out came Red Passion!

Red Passion #643 is part of a new line of L’Oreal Color Riche lipsticks. The colours are strong and intense and bold! I mean look at Red Passion – its not a colour for the faint hearted is it?

Red Passion is stated to be for “Porcelain skintones” i.e. fair skin. To be perfectly honest, I’m not sure how accurate these descriptions are, because I know many fair skinned girls who are just too afraid of slicking on a bright red. Also, someone with darker skin might want to try it but upon viewing the description, might veer away from it. Personally, I don’t hold with labels – if it works for you, it does!

So anyway, wanna see how it looks on lips? 🙂

Here you go.

Its a bright red lip. Slightly warm toned but ever so bright.

It looked a little dry in the tube, but it slicks on like butter and doesn’t feel drying on the lips. It also looks a tad shiny which is both a good and bad thing. Good because it adds some dimension, bad because its a bit slippery which means more slippage and potential settling into lip lines. Actually it does settle a little which is a pity 🙁

I did notice on my coffee cup this morning that the lipstick looked fuchsia on the rim. That’s the undertone which I detected on my lips which develops after a while. Its quite a cool red with a touch of warmth, quite different from Revlon’s True Red, in case you are wondering. I find the latter holds up a little better.

Interestingly, Red Passion actually looks darker in the tube than it does on my lips. I expected a deep dark red and ended up with a brighter red that deepens after a while. Might this be the red for you? 🙂

Pros: Bright pigmented colour, Slicks on easily, Feels light on lips and non drying, Affordable

Cons: Bit slippery, Colour in tube is different from colour on lips

There are 5 new shades in the L’Oreal Made for Me Intenses range:-

  • Pink Fever #640
  • Intense Fushia #641
  • Red Passion #643
  • Fever Brown #644
  • Burning Rose #646

Bonus Tip: Slick on Red Passion, blot and top off with clear gloss for a lovely stain. Or when the colour wears off, layer with clear lip balm and you have a lovely stain to take you through the rest of the day

If you’ve tried any of them, do share what you think of this new L’Oreal range. Its certainly more pigmented than their Glam Rose collection from last year or even from the regular L’Oreal Color Riche line. I’d likely check out Burning Rose next coz I love the name 😀

Hehe thanks! My tip is to start slow – go for something rosy and build up from there

I’m never a big fan of red lipstick but I gotta say, this certainly catches my eye! Now, pondering should I get it? I’m a teensy bit afraid (ok, more like petrified) that I can’t carry the colour well.

    What say you PB?

My suggestion is to test at the counter. If it scares you, try something lighter like maybe the rose one. No point getting something you won’t wear often 🙂

That’s a beautiful red and you pull it off so well. I wish I were confident enough to rock such a bright red too but I’m still too scared of them.

Is the red colour a Shimmery colour or Matte colour?

Looks great on you! A little too bold for me, am going off really red lips since they are so hard to wear as in they get on everything and you have to apply carefully – far too lazy.

Thanks! I guess I’ve been lucky to not have too much troubles with red lipstick (yes I wear it to work and often! LOL)

Oooh that’s one hot red mama 😛 I haven’t been able to pull off such a bold shade as yet. The red emphasises my *ahem* yellow teeth (how bloody embarrassing).

Ooh! I know what you mean! Try a blue based red – helps make teeth look white (I have yellow teeth too 😛 )

you’re right, i was completely untaken by the way it looks in the tube, super dry looking. i prefer the revlon one, even the color suits your better. but i cannot deny you pull off reds better than anyone i;ve ever seen!

still scared with my crystal gloss. hot pink is really weird! how on earth am i gonna tone it down since it react to my lip!

oh and i’m getting to that time of the month soon, and i naughtily dug out blacheads and popped small pimples and slapped nexcare on top, now on both cheeks i have 3 small healing dots the shape of the bermuda triangle. darn my itchy fingers!
