I’ve been toying with the idea of the Longchamp Le Pliage tote for quite a while now. Yes I know its overdone and that every young girl out there is toting her Les Pliages like it was a school bag.
But I’m drawn to it anyway 😛
Perhaps I like the many colours they come in (although this time I’m drawn to the humble black version – very NOT me :P) or the different sizes they come in, or perhaps the fact that it is foldable and that it holds a ton without being heavy.
I’m NOT quite liking the fact that its nylon on the body although I’ve read that its a very hardy nylon that doesn’t get furry, tear or spoil that easily.
I own a nylon tote from Herve Chapelier which I travelled with with absolutely no problems and it didn’t get too dirty despite it being a light colour so really, I have no cause to worry.
That said, I stopped by the Longchamp boutique in The Gardens last week just to take a look again at the Les Pliage (brown leather on colored nylon body) and Planètes (leather color matches the nylon body and is not foldable – black tote in picture) but the selection of colours here is quite poor so I might take another look the next time I go to Singapore (they seemed to have a better colour selection). Or maybe I’d just think about it again the next time I’m at duty free somewhere – I always see Longchamp sold at airports 🙂
On another note, I’m quite impressed by the quality of the Longchamp leather bags. They are understated, aren’t too heavy and aren’t crazy expensive. With the sales now on, they are actually affordable for a good leather bag!
But coming back to the Les Pliage and Planètes totes – if you own one, I’d love to hear from you how it holds up to wear and how you like it 🙂 No better way to find out how a bag performs than to find out from an owner! 🙂

talking you into it~~ go get the longchamp!! especially from UK/FRANCE!
paid only GBP50~ for my lePliage M (shortHandle) in OCEAN color~
ALICE in Wonderland muchness BLUE! lol
i have TIPS to share with all you GALS!
we need a good hard base for most of our handbags ..keep them in good form/shape
(LV-speedy,Gucci-Boston,Longchamp LePliage)
i gotten my cloth-sewn cardbox base from GUCCI@pavillion for only rm40!
next tips~ i cant leave home without my MUJI-handbag organizer~~
so all my vanity, purse, keys & camera is neatly sitting in my nifty handbag organizer!
havin these two inside goodies~ our handbags/totes wont go wrong!!
have it and love it, although they are no pockets in it, it is not hard to find stuff as i initially thought would b the case. UK is much cheaper, planning to ask back 1 or 2, i think mine is like the pink one in your above pic… perfect for me, as it is durable, water resistant(?!).
I recently got one from Italy when a friend travelled there, i got the medium or Large (cant remember) with long handles in Red as well, after conversion, was about RM308 (euro was at 4.7 i reckon, lower).
I was hesitant at first, seeing it everywhere in S’pore and seeing fakes being sold in Brands Outlet (in Penang, “oh oh!”) but I guess I got it cheaper, good bargain.
What I like about it
1) it’s roomy (although messy and items tend to get ‘lost’ in the bag, what i can advice is get a small bag organizer)
2) I can chuke my 15.4″ laptop in it, purse, small makeup bag, laptop cord, mouse in 1 go to work
3) i can also lug my DLSR in it with no problem.
4) water proof, good for everyday casual use (i don’t wanna be getting my leather goods wet or pelted with raindrops)
5) it’s foldable, goes into my luggage easily
if it gets dirty, you can wipe it down with wet tissues, the other day some curry mee landed on mine, quickly snapped out the wet tissue n voila! provided u clean it almost instantly hehe.
that’s my take on it. so far, loving it.
by the way, Brics, I just saw it in Isetan KLCC, u might wanna check it out there, but I didn’t notice the X-line, but definately in Takashimaya in S’pore.
good luck to u!
*cough* Friend in UK? Erm… *hands up* Unless you’re talking about London, you know I only ever go Liv/Aberdeen when we’re in UK.
Saw them in Schiphol airport, going for about 50+euros. Was tempted myself and thought I’d think about it for the whole holiday before deciding if I should get one on the way home. How interesting that you should post this just as I was doing the same Should-I-Shouldn’t-I regarding this bag. LOL
*squeals* oh damn i need to get in touch with you 😛
I wonder what so great bout the bag…dun look nice to me…n so pricey! My god, i would rather pay extra RM500 to make it RM1k to buy Coach or other branded stuffs. No worth a sen to me lah!
Well its not that pricey if purchased in Europe 🙂 Still its a case of one woman’s love is another woman’s hate 😀
Ooooh, I am in the same situation as you, I couldn’t decide whether to get it or not as I fell in love with it the first time I saw it in Europe!
It may be a simple and not-so-luxurious design, but something about it just hit that soft spot of me..hehe! (a case of one woman’s love)
I am spotting a lot of fakes around here in Msia too; it seems that everyone is having one (similar to that LV craze) and I have almost put my thoughts off that bag until you posted this here! (I posted about this collection after my Europe trip in one of my old blogs which I have shut down)
Hmmmm…..I am thinking again….everyone mentioned UK/SG/Europe for better prices, but how about the US, anyone knows? 🙂
I believe its cheaper in the US too comparatively speaking of course. It seems to be cheapest in Europe though. As for fakes I’m not fussed. I buy my bags cos I like them not because everyone has them and I like that the Le Pliage whilst popular as a design and in itself, looks pretty chic with a casual outfit 🙂
I’ve 2 of them – a small one, and a large one. The small one looks small but it fits many things I carry to work everyday – makeup case, sunglasses, umbrella, etc. I like to use the large one as an ‘extra bag’. In case I buy too many junks during my trip, I can always fit them into it instead of buying another new hand carry luggage. That’s what I did when I went to HK early this year. Haha.
There’s always special sale for Le Pliage totes here. I paid full price for the small one years ago, I think it was 60EUR back then. The large one only cost me around 40EUR after discount.
Gosh! Special sales will sway me for anything! Lol thanks for sharing. I love how cute the small ones look but the big ones are definitely extra bag material. Oh dear I really have to think of size now 🙂
I was deliberating just like you until I saw the limited edition Le Pliage with the Effiel tower design and I caved as I thought it wouldn’t look as common as the ones on the street that people were carrying, The bag carries very well, the ends are still standing straight whenever I use it, or maybe cos the bag is still fairly new? I face the same problems as the others that there are no separate compartments, but nothing a bag organiser can’t solve.
get one! get one! 🙂 i have a medium short handle and its love!! 🙂
I was very on the edge about this bag for a while I couldn’t decide if I wanted one or not. I actually ended up deciding for myself no when my brother bought me the bag as a present for my birthday. I have loved it ever since I have spilled drinks in that bag, and it has never been ruined nor did it leak. It has been dropped in snow, and water still nothing has happened to the bag looks brand new. I can travel with it (took it on a cruise), and use it for school since it will hold all my text and law books. Also great for the office holds papers and such however it only has one little pocket with no covering. I think that is easily solved with buying one, and putting it in the bag. I vote yeah you should get it since it will never go out of style since it’s been around. . . since I believe the 60’s.
Longchamp Le Pliage totes are great…i actually have three of them! I have medium sized navy tote for work – though as a lot of people have said so far you need a bag organiser in there otherwise things will be all over the place.
You could get one personalised online (check out the longchamp website for UK. US or France) – you choose the colours that you want, the colour of the zip and initials on the leather flap and takes approximately three weeks to make but its worth it if you want a longchamp bag that is different from everyone else.
Have it and L-O-V-E it too! 🙂 I like that it’s very versatile and lightweight. I use it daily as my office bag, and even during weekends when I go shopping. I’ve also used it when I traveled recently.
I admit that the material is rather soft so it doesn’t really stand on it’s own. And no pockets to keep my stuff nice & neat inside. So I really need to use a bag organizer or else everything will be a mess. I highly recommend Bag-2-Go organizers. They’re very useful with lots of compartments in different sizes & closure types, so they really organize my stuff (there’s a proper place for almost EVERYTHING — keys, pens, wallets, medicines, checkbooks, receipts, coins, mobile phone, ipod, digicam, etc.). So different from other bag organizers that simply add pockets but don’t really organize. The material of Bag-2-Go is also nice & soft, yet sturdy enough to give structure to the bag. I don’t even need to use a base shaper in my medium-sized Longchamp Le Pliage anymore. 🙂
Other ladies used it for other Designer bags like Louis Vuitton (Speedy, Neverfull, Monterguiel), Longchamp, Chanel, Goyard St. Louis PM, Gucci totes, Lacoste shopping totes, etc.
Just sharing a good find.. 🙂
I like this bag too.. it’s hard to organize on its own though. Good thing I found the Bag-2-Go, the ultimate bag organizer. The name says it all.. It’s the perfect organizer for the Le Pliage and similar roomy bags.. Works well with Louis Vuitton Neverfull and Goyard St. Louis bags too.. 🙂
Buy it.
Yes, every third uni girl carries something Longchamp (and usually fake) but I received a black le pilage as a gift from my mother over a decade ago and — despite my initial doubts– I adore it. That bag has traveled the world, been abused through planes/trains/office floors/transit/backs of cars, and is still my go-to carry on (the only luggage I take, usually). I’ve even used it as checked luggage numerous times. As that bag now deserves to live out its days reserved for more rough-and-tumble adventure travel, I’ve added a le pilage messenger and a smaller shoulder tote (graphite/brown leather, and black/brown leather respectively) for business travel and daily commutes among home, office, court, and meetings.
I’ve never felt less stylish carrying my bags, but I do pretty much use them only for work and work travel.
And silly though it my sound, the cheapest place I’ve ever bought a Longchamp bag was duty-free aboard British Airways long-haul flights.
Have it. Love it! Use it daily with my Bag-2-Go, the Ultimate bag organizer for designer bags.
I got the Large Bag-2-Go for my Longchamp Le Pliage Medium short-handle. Works beautifully as a bag/base shaper too, as it gives the bag structure without making it look stiff. It’s really the perfect companion to Longchamp bags, and other big roomy Designer bags (ie. Louis Vuitton Neverfull / Monty / Speedy, Gucci totes, Goyard St. Louis, etc.) for that matter. 😉
The reason I love my longchamp le pliage is because I want to be kind to my shoulders. It is the best lightweight bag I have personally used that also looks classy chic.
Longchamp le pliage is easy to handle and yes, it doesn’t feel heavy eventhough you stuff quite a lots inside…But in Malaysia,, people seems to be unfamiliar with the name, hence they thought it’s fake and cheap handbag!!!
I love the design, simple and sophisticated.
what do you think of longchamp club le pliage that has no pocket inside is it authentic? i bought mine on line all the details of an authentic longchamp is there except that it doesn’t have pocket inside..pls advise…thanks much
i lug my le pliage everywhere I go. Fuss free and it’s as light as a bag can gets. I’ve some friends who think I’m silly buying these nylon bags and le sport sac too especially with many fakes around. They claim that full leather is more ‘worth it’ and has more value. Just the same as when I sometimes choose to go vegetarian they will say paying for meat is more worth it than a plate of vegetables??? But anyway,I still so much prefer these bags in it’s many colors and prints. Hope you’ll do a le sport sac article in 2011 too. They are my ultimate love. Hehe.
How is the quality of longchamp Le Pliage Totes made in China?? What do you all think?
