UPDATE: Sephora is open at Bintang Walk, Jalan Bukit Bintang. In front of Starhill Gallery, opposite Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. Take a virtual tour of Sephora Malaysia here!
Call me posh but I really like Starhill Gallery.
Starhill Gallery is a luxury shopping mall on Jalan Bukit Bintang that specializes in luxury brands in particular, luxury fashion and timepieces. The food is pretty good too at Feast Village – posh but good. But you don’t want me waxing lyrical about Starhill Gallery 🙂
It merely serves as a prelude to the idea that Sephora Malaysia is going to be opened in one of the poshest shopping malls in the country!
So says the image on the hoarding. The location is in front of Starhill Gallery – where the Lecka Lecka ice cream, shisha kiosk used to be, just diagonal from Louis Vuitton (what a great excuse to go to LV now and again! :)) Sure, you’ve seen this news elsewhere on the net already but no harm seeing it one more time eh? hehe… 🙂
No news yet on when it will open. Its not even built yet if the hoarding and location is to be believed. The semi constructed building you see in the picture above is the neighbouring KL Plaza that’s undergoing renovation as at May 2010.
I wonder if this is the artist’s impression of the store.
So don’t hold your breath waiting is what I’m guessing. It’ll open when its ready to be opened and its probably going to be a looker! 🙂
Despite my rather ambivalent attitude towards a Sephora Malaysia, I will be sure to share my thoughts on the store when it opens – again, it may not be the 1st time you’d read it, but I will share nonetheless 🙂
Question: Are you excited at the idea of having a Sephora store in Malaysia? 🙂

Hell yeah I am! WOOHOOO!
But does it mean that we can have return policies that the Sephoras in the US, or is it just all a big, high end Sasa. Anyways, we still swatch swatch swatch at them “play areas” yes, no?
Whew, but I kinda feel like everything is going to be overpriced as well, do you?
ParisB says
I don’t think there will be return policies. No stores here have them anyway and to be honest, I’d rather they didn’t because returning items means raising prices for the rest of us legit buyers. So long as there are testers, I’m happy. I also do not think it will be seriously overpriced. Much depends on the brands. If we are going to see the big brands e.g. Dior, Lancome, MAC the prices will likely be controlled by the distributors. What remains to be seen will be the other brands Sephora might bring in under their own umbrella.
Synaesthesia says
Personally, I don’t think there’s any return policy available in Sephora Malaysia as Sephora Singapore doesn’t has this policy either… but i would rather Sephora Malaysia to bring in other brands that not available in any other departmental stores e.g. Dior, MAC etc… Brands like Urban Decay, NARS, Smashbox and maybe Stila, these are brands that I really love to buy? Hope their pricing won’t be sky high too… hehehehehe…
Shorty says
Thanks MWS for all the fabulous updates! I definitely can’t wait; I just hope they stock up with all the wonderful brands we can’t already get here! Plus fun stuff like brushes and cases 🙂 However, looking at the site I doubt it’s gonna be BIG enough a place for hours of endless makeup pleasure!
ParisB says
You’re welcome Shorty! 😀 I’m guessing we’ll get pretty much what there is available in Singapore so we could look forward to new brands like Too Faced and Urban Decay and not forgetting the Sephora brand of course! 😀 I don’t think it’ll be all that big either. Still, who’s to know eh? Starhill is a pretty surprising place 😀

me cant imagine EVEN MORE makeup brands arriving in Malaysia. what more can we have? i only want Monistat. hahaha! (not even a makeup brand!) ever sicne reading abt it in skindeco i want one! but cant get it. sigh.
ParisB says
I’d like YSL to come back pretty please? 😛

I think it’s really cool that we’ll have our own Sephora but I’m not like super excited that I’m gonna pee in my pants… At the very least I’ve seen Singapore’s Sephora so I know roughly what to expect. Even then I didn’t buy anything :p
ParisB says
Ok “pee in my pants” excited is quite sad 😛 Still as you said, it’d be cool to have a Sephora here (although I’d never heard of Sephora till about 5 years ago 😛 )

I believe the new mall is called “Fahrenheit”…walked past the construction base a few times everyday last week.
I personally am not very excited…sorry for the anti-climax. Due to inventory reason, there is a very big possibility that LVMH would not give the distribution right to Sephora (in order to maintain the clientes, plus the retain their images as luxury brands…this is how it is always marketed in Asia). Although I would like to see more honestly priced cosmetics or skincare…I have a feeling (rather than that, a few reasons…) that it won’t happen.
And I seriously don’t mean to put off everyone’s ecstatic mood!
ParisB says
Actually you are right! The new KL Plaza will be known as Fahrenheit 88 – nice new face with nice new swanky name 😀 I too tend to agree with you about the brands available. We’ll have to wait and see… 😀

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG : )

ParisB says
We’ll have to see eh? 😀

No Sephora here in Melbourne, coming back to M’sia for hols soon, hopefully get to visit Sephora. YAAAAAYYYY!
ParisB says
As of now there’s no structure yet. Might take a while 🙂
Reese says
wahh, I am excited as I never step into a Sephora before. Only knew about Sephora’s existence from reading your blogs and Sesame’s. I am imagining that I will spend time alone ,happily, playing , swatching makeups and testing skincares, muahahaha.
ParisB says
I think that’s what most of us will be keen on – swatching away! But I wonder if the (wo)man on the street even knows what Sephora is!

I did go a little ga-ga in Sephora in the US but I was really stumped by the amount of choices! I think I spent a good 2 hours in there going round & round but it was maybe cause it was my first exposure to Sephora. Next time I wasn’t too impressed with Sephora at Singapore – except for UD, Smashbox & Burt’s Bees (two of which we now have here). It will be good to have Sephora to be a “one-stop” sort of center of course.
Joanie says
Does anybody know when Sephora will be open at Starhill?
ParisB says
Rumours are that its at the end of 2010 – we’ll have to wait and see I guess.
Joanie says
What?! End of 2010?! So long……..
HOnG says
By the way, from the designer’s draft it’s like Starhill gallery itself going to renovate too. But so far we haven noticed any progress to this mall. I’ve doubted if the plan to renovate the mall is real too. Does Ms. ParisB know the current condition to this mall?
ParisB says
Gosh I wish I knew but I’m about as clueless as the next person is. I had the impression there’d be some renovation going on too. They might be working on it … or not. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see 🙂
pixen says
Mon Dieu! Sephora already in KL or not? 😀 I’m looking for NUXE products when I’ll return home to Penang or I’ll have to go to Singapore when I need refills :-\
