Penelope Cruz leaves L’Oreal lipsticks for Lancome Tresor?

May 5, 2010 Paris B 20 Comments

When news broke about Lancome signing on Penelope Cruz  alongside their latest celeb sign up Julia Roberts, I couldn’t help but suppress a bit of a giggle.

Penelope Cruz has been a celebrity face for L’Oreal for so long I’ve gotten used to seeing her eyes (mascara), lips (lipstick) and hair (hair care) in the pharmacies, drugstores and supermarket aisles. In fact, here’s a lipstick emblazoned with her signature by L’Oreal – L’Oreal Color Riche Ruby Crystal.

Penelope Cruz L'Oreal to Lancome

Now that Ms Cruz is a bigger star, I guess she needs a bigger sandbox in which to play so “graduating” to Lancome is but a natural progression. After all, they are all in the family as it were.

For now, Penelope Cruz is replacing Kate Winslet as the face for Tresor and I personally believe her smouldering looks embody the perfume better than Kate Winslet does 🙂

Anyway, while Penelope Cruz goes off to play with the big girls in the luxury sandbox that is Lancome, I will hold on to the L’oreal Color Riche Crystal lipstick I have in Ruby Crystal signed by Penelope Cruz. I was given this by a friend so I’m not sure if its still in stores. If you are keen on a short review and seeing a swatch of Ruby Crystal lipstick, hop on down.

The L’oreal Color Riche lipsticks tend to be on the sheer moisturizing side. I love that! It reminds me of Japanese style lipsticks – sheer and moisturizing with just a hint of colour. It makes a color like red so much easier to wear if you are afraid of the colour.

Ruby Crystal swatch

Ruby Crystal #726 is a warm sheer red with shimmer that looks a bit orange in the tube. I was expecting something redder from the name. I find the texture much improved from Coral Magic, my other celebrity themed lipstick.

On my lips, its a sheer red that is at once wearable and perfect for an everyday sort of look. I don’t see much shimmer on my lips as opposed to the tube though. I wear this one with everything because I can actually pair this with strong eyes! Its sheer which adds colour yet does not make the overall look too strong.

If you can find Ruby Crystal in stores, grab it. I think you’ll like it! 😀

Do you know I’ve never watched any movie with Penelope Cruz in it? For the life of me I can’t even remember what movies she was in 😛 Help?

Honestly, I don’t like cruz. I find her bland and does not have the zing of a star. Like what I think of zhang zhiyi :p salma hayek yes, kate winslet yes but that’s just me 🙂

Didn’t know a thing about her until the Tom Cruise hook up but I like the way she looks – I guess I dig the whole Mediterranean look 🙂 btw I think Zhang Zhiyi insipid 😛 wonder if anyone will flame me 😛

I agree, Zhang Ziyi is insipid. haha.

I don’t find Penelope Cruz exceptionally appealing. I’ve always wondered why loreal uses her, but I guess she has her mass appeal which I don’t get.

I love her, and her accent even more!!! She’s really pretty, hehe. ^.^ Like that lipstick on you even more… Hmm, strangely, I have not yet tried L’oreal lipsticks before.

I only stick to the Color Riche formula for L’Oreal lipsticks – I like the light feel on the lips

Thanks Aiyu! I haven’t seen any of those and I’m not a SATC fan so erm… I guess I better watch just one so I can tell if she can act yes? 🙂

Not a fan of her movies but she has that sultry come-hither look about her. Ok this is a little off topic but does one of her eye (her right eye) look off in that picture? The more I look, the more bothers me.

I think she’s signed on to be Johnny Depp’s love interest in the 4th Pirates of The Caribbean movie. I also only know her as the hot Latina.

Other than that, she’s one of those people who turns me off for no particular reason so I don’t care for any of her movies and avoid whatever brand she represents. Yep, avoided Loreal and the Mango clothing line. And damnit, I’m crossing out the 4th Pirates movie too. =P

L’Oréal owns Lancôme so I don’t agree that “she needs a bigger sandbox in which to play so “graduating” to Lancome is but a natural progression”. I don’t care for Penelope Cruz one way or the other but I found your post a bit catty, to be honest.

Yes l’oreal owns lancome and one’s a drugstore brand while the other’s a department store brand. With Penelope’s star rising she would prefer to play in a bigger sandbox (Lancome) won’t she? Guess you didn’t see it that way.

Interesting how you found her post catty when all she remarked was how one has progressed in a career. Now if you had found my initial post catty, I would have TOTALLY agreed with you because I had posted it with my claws and fangs out in all its glory. 🙂

I’ve only watched this one movie called “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”. The storyline’s weird and there were explicit scenes. :p
The lippie color looks very flattering on you! But you know red’s not me

She is a very good actress http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004851/ probably known more in Europe, muse of Pedro Almodovar, one of the great directors. She is not just a pretty face, she can act. I assume she had a good contract with L’Oreal, maybe now she got a better deal with Lancome, but she is a name for many years already.

Thanks! I used to enjoy Pedro Almodovar movies when I had access to them. I recall one with Antonio Banderas as a matador (when he was younger of course 🙂 ) I’ll try to look up some spanish movies. I think she might be in her element there

she’s actually been in some watchable (in my opinion) movies. I liked Bandidas (kick ass girl power movie with Salma Hayek) . Woman on Top was not bad.

It’s an unusual Chinese New Year this year. It’s the first time since I left home that I did not make an early morning drive home for CNY for the reunion dinner (I always do so to beat traffic). It’s the first time I’m spending CNY in KL. It’s the first time my hair is looking such a mess for CNY 😂
Regardless, we do this not for ourselves but for others so we can have more joyful CNY celebrations to come.
