Morning ladies!
Today, we shall be ladies of leisure. We shall speak in hushed ladylike tones and dress in lovely day frocks, pearls and sip tea in the garden as ladies do, as I unveil to you the La Prairie Cellular Serum Platinum Rare.
We’ll get the butler to use white kid gloves to handle the precious creams and serums after he pours our Earl Grey tea. Not only is the serum made from one of the most expensive metals in the world, the serum costs RM2,700 – that is not a typo. No, don’t gawk – its not ladylike 😉
La Prairie is at the pinnacle of luxury skincare. A basic cream starts from RM700 so most of us might have only peeped at the counters and scurried along. I know I do. Yet those I met who have used the products swear by it. There must be something there.
The Cellular Platinum Serum Rare is the followup to last year’s iconic launch of the Cellular Cream Platinum Rare. Like all serums, it is a concentrated formula of the best of colloidal Platinum extract and works to maintain the skin’s electrical balance, has anti aging benefits and importantly, seals in moisture and brightens skin with powerful anti oxidants.
An editor of a publication (I forget which) told me after the media launch that she found the La Prairie Platinum cream a lifesaver when she flies because the airplane air is so dry and sometimes, the skin can go crazy from climate changes from country to country. Even SHE was treasuring her sample.
So, wanna know how a RM2,700 serum feels on the skin? I’ll tell you 🙂
La Prairie Cellular Serum Platinum Rare
The La Prairie Platinum Serum comes in a dropper style bottle, as all magical elixirs do. All you need is one drop or two of this silvery grey liquid. Smooth it between your fingers and apply on your skin, lightly patting it in.
Almost instantly, my skin feels more taut. I seriously kid you not. You really have to try it to believe it. I was sceptical when they told me I would feel it immediately, but I did. The skin feels tighter like I just had a facial tuck (not that I know how that feels 😛 ) and it feels lovely and smooth. I would love to apply more, but 1-2 drops just about does it. It feels like it delivers and seals in the moisture in the skin.
La Prairie Cellular Cream Platinum Rare
You can follow up with regular moisturizer or better yet, layer it with the La Prairie Cellular Cream Platinum Rare. The pewter grey cream too needs only very little. You know, I’m almost afraid to use it most days. You use very little and it is not very rich to my surprise. It was very light in texture and lovely on the skin.
The extract of colloidal platinum is supposed to help skin retain moisture, and help skin tighten up. I can attest to both. I cannot tell you if the platinum is truly beneficial for your skin or if everything claimed by La Prairie is true. All I can tell you is that the sample serum and cream feels amazing on my skin.
I just can’t afford either right now so I’m hoarding my samples like crazy! 🙂
Now sip up your tea, pinky finger extended.
“Lovely weather we’re having for this time of year!” 😉

Morning Paris,
Apparently my friend told me that the cellular refining lotion is the best lotion that she has tried. But for the steep price tag, I passed. Plus, the beauty advisor I spoke to in the La Prairie Spa told me that it’s not time *yet* to start using their products…yes, more cash for me!
Have a great day.
x
ParisB says
Whoa! You know someone who actually uses the brand – awesome! I can’t even bring myself to go near the counter most times 😉 But its good that they told you its not your time to use it – where’s the spa anyway? this sounds intriguing 😉
rinnah says
Oh PB! I couldn’t help but giggle all the way through this post because of your writing, save for a shocked gasp at the price of the serum… we need another pseudo BBQ session soon! Or better yet, let’s have a barrel of fun next Sunday! 😛
ParisB says
Yes yes! Gotta catch up with you girls over tea or a banquet maybe? 😀
Jenn says
I’m never the very ladylike kind, so i’mna go ahead and gawk!! o_O hahaha!! 😛
Don’t think i can even afford La Mer, so this is wayyyyy out of reach for me!! Will try not to laugh / squint / move my face too much from now on otherwise these creams will eat up my retirement fund!! hahaha!! XD
ParisB says
No worries. When I heard the price, my jaw fell wide open 😛 I used La Mer once but its but its like Olay next to this 😛
Juan says
haha! LOL!
Connie says
bwahaha! Did someone spike your tea this morning? :p You’re hilarious, PB.
They have quite an extensive range so some La Prairie products are actually “affordable”. I’ve tried the caviar cream but not long enough to see much difference…
ParisB says
Heh glad it made someone laugh 😛 I did ask what was the most “affordable” tub of La Prairie and I was told RM700 so I’ll stay away for a while until I have enough funds to warrant putting the money on my face 🙂
xin says
ok my jaw just dropped after seeing that price tag O_O!!!!!
ParisB says
haha I knew that would be the clincher 😀
Rachael Ee says
Hey Paris!
Good Morning!
Actually La Prairie products are very pricey but you can notice the result quite instantly and its actually quite worth it. Their products are very smooth so u only need a little bit for the whole face. I went to the Platinum Cream Launching last year so I did get a sample. Haha! ;=) It was so precious to me and I kept it until recently when I went travel in US. The cream is really useful when you are flying. Imagine 22 hours of flying… I dun feel my skin tightening or dehydrating. I still feel my skin smooth and moisture. This is from my experience. I am not kidding. So I went to the airport duty free to check out the price. Haha! But… Still… I cant afford it yet!! I am using other LP products but this Platinum seriously I cant afford yet!!
ParisB says
An LP user! *kowtows* 😀 Thank you for sharing your experience with this cream. I must agree with you about the Platinum cream – its wonderful on my skin – I wake up after an airconditioned night and feel like i’m glowing! I guess the price is the bit thats going to put most of us off 🙂
jojoba (My Makeup Reviews) says
don’t go so far… there are better things to spend your hard learnt $$$ than on these, seriously! there are natural stuff you can get at a lot lower price and works just as well, if ot better. i don’t believe in these super high end stuff anymore. i once loved its foundation but i now think i was stupid enough to be sucked into it.
ParisB says
I was never one for natural products but some day if I strike the lottery or something and have lots of money to spend, I could just get this Serum coz its great! 😀 but for now, I’ll stick to less expensive products 😀
Lee says
Heya Paris,
Well it’s a friend from London, I believe it is less than £100 for the lotion. I think given the exchange rate now, it’s cheaper to buy in London than in KL.
Oh the spa is in a skiing village in Austria…they have other products in the spa but it is La Prairie appointed spa, the spa itself is awesome but the therapists can be better 🙂
ParisB says
Can I just say I’m so jealous of the idea of a spa in a skiing village?! I’ve never been to Austria 😀 Thanks for sharing! 😀
Tine says
*jaw drops*
Forgive my unladylike gesture, oh Mistress Paris, for I could not help but stare at that price. Perhaps I too, shall be able to give that concoction of wonder a go one day.
😛
ParisB says
No worries Tine, my jaw dropped too when I was told the price and it took every ounce of my being to hold it closed the rest of the time. Didn’t help all these ladies (editors of mags) were going on and on about how wonderful the cream was or other LP products were. Ask for a drop at the LP counter 😉
Sugar says
I guess when a person is standing at the La Prairie counter they would be thinking “hmmm LP Platinum serum, or LV Neverfull mm, LP Platinum serum, or LV Neverfull MM….”
Or how about this…the contents of my makeup bag.

Which means I can put them all into my Fendi shopper roll tote (RM 2650) and start pulling them out in public to use like a snobby Santa claus, and someone could just flash the La Prairie serum + cream and it would trump both my bag n all my stuff. =(
ParisB says
*giggles* This is too funny and too right! All it takes is a jar and a bottle and the rest of us are left jaw hanging 😀 BTW do you really carry all your skincare with you? How’s that Caudalie facial spray thing? Sounds intriguing…
Sugar says
It’s ok, pretty much the same as the Avene and Vichy, except this doesnt need to be patted off, neither does it set makeup. but it doesnt melt it either.
(ps, most of the stuff i bought recently is due to ur editorials! =P i also bot abt 1000 buucks worth of Dior for me mum, most of it what u reviewed too, and she loves them!)
and no, i dont carry all of them with me! just to prove a point of the expensiveness (is that a word?) of La Prairie. =S
ParisB says
Haha… I honestly thought that if you carried them all around with you, you’d be the hunchback of notredame 😛 Glad some recs worked out for you and your Mum!
Connie says
LMAO!! Good one!
yuki says
oh this brand… it’s sooooooo expensive!! Instant effect too?? waaa… My aunt swears by this stuff… She’s been using it since I dunno when… rich wife of a rich datuk… hahaha… When her birthday comes around, what to get her? Just beli one bottle cukup adey… shared by a few ppl… hahaha… mahal mahal… I thought saving to buy a La Mer cream was so hard enough~~
ParisB says
Haha! If she’s looking good, there must be something to swear by! 😉
bastet says
*waves from Austria* 😉 I get La Prairie facials from time to time and I use some of their skincare (none of the super-expensive items though). My mom does, too. The facials are excellent and I can only recommend them. I do like their skincare, and when after some freaking hormonal imbalance my face recently went from combo to superdry, flakey and sensitive all along, their caviar foundation was the only one I could use that looked decent and didn’t irritate my skin further. However, I don’t think the hefty price-tag is justified. Whatever their claims, *no cream in the world* is worth Euro 500. Don’t get me wrong, I think the quality of their skincare is good and it is as effective as skincare can be, but still I think we get totally ripped off by the company. I mean, how can a weekend trip to London and a face cream cost the same? Their prices are unrealistic, but of course, when it comes to feeling and looking good, we’re willing to pay just about any price… as it seems.
ParisB says
Hi Bastet! Thanks for sharing your experience with LP 😀 I guess this will be a line of skincare we could go to if we had extra cash lying around. The stuff I tried were really good but I couldn’t pass up a holiday just for 4 months of goodness for my skin 🙂
Bryan says
This is really a pricey skincare, but if it is really effective, no price tag shall stop anyone from getting it haha 🙂
I recently bought La Mer Gel Cream and had been using it for a month now. It really work very well on my combination skin. Skin feel so hydrated and soothing after applied. A very good moisturiser.
Now I am starting to explore other products where recently purchased Radiant Infusion and Regenerating Serum. Radiant serum use at day time to minimise open pores and overall face less oily. Serum use at night and wake up next day for a well rested and revived skin 🙂
ParisB says
Yup! If it works, it works and people will certainly purchase it. The fact the brand’s been around so long is testament to that! I got a sample of the Regenerating Serum too. Will be trying it out 🙂
