Smashbox Heartbreaker Collection Hot Date, Liquid Eyeliner, Baked Starlight photos + swatches

April 14, 2010 Paris B 24 Comments

Smashbox Heartbreaker

The Smashbox Heartbreaker Spring collection has been out a while so here’s a quick review on what I thought of the items in the collection which is limited edition (but of course!)

Smashbox Hot Date eyeshadow

The Hot Date eyeshadow palette (RM135) is a good one. Much more versatile than Kiss n Tell, I can assure you, because you can use the colours in there for work or for play quite easily. A very good travel palette if you go on business trips – I recently took it on one such trip.

Use the neutral brown shades during your meetings and times when you need to be serious; and go bright and breezy with greens on your eyes for your day off. Perfect! The texture is a little sheer but buildable in terms of colour and it works well if you use a brush. For stronger pigment, use over an eyeshadow base or pile it on with your fingers.

Jet black liquid liner pen

The Jet Black liquid liner (RM65) take a bit of getting used to, but if you are patient, you’d get a pretty decent deep black line for your eyes. It stays put on my lids all day although you will have to let it dry before you blink lest it transfers. Its a nice dark dark black with a good firm fine tip that is a little flexible so you can use it thick if you like.

Baked Starlight is a highlighter that is a cool pink tone. It isn’t super shimmery which is good. I use it over O Glow gel blush and it helps the colour pop. If you are fair, you can use it on its own as a pink blush. If you are darker, it’ll make a nice highlighter. The colour is sheer but don’t pile on too much or it can get frosty. Retails at RM116 and its really pretty too! 😉

I’ll be honest that I disliked the white plastic packaging in this collection. It made the collection look a little cheap. But if you can get over that, its not a bad introduction to Smashbox as the colours are fresh and practical. Almost anyone can use it.

And here are the obligatory product swatches of the Heartbreaker collection so you can see what it looks like on the skin 🙂

Smashbox Heartbreaker swatch

This was my introduction to Smashbox Cosmetics. Not too bad if you ask me 🙂 I will am thinking of trying the Photo Finish primer. So many raves about it online!

So have you checked out the Smashbox counter yet? Or how about the Heartbreaker collection? Anything caught your eye from there? 🙂

I think both eyeshadow palettes are really nice, different groups of colors. While I agree that Hot Date is definitely more practical, Pink-and-Purple freak like me will go for Kiss N Tell anytime, though the teal in Hot Date is also calling out my name. 😉

Oh definitely. If you like pink and purple, Kiss n Tell is for you! Great colour combination there too. I just like Hot Date for the versatility. I must be getting old LOL

Hmm, that Baked Starlight is looking really pretty! But then again, each time you feature a pinky blush/highlighter like that I always feel the start of a new lemming… hahaha… 😛

So, in your opinion, for me which would be prettier – Baked Starlight or the Dior Shimmer Face Power in Rose Diamond which you featured before? 😀

Baked Starlight is more pigmented so its easier to use as a pinky blush on its own. Rose Diamond is much sheerer in terms of colour. Depends on which you prefer 😀 My suggestion – test both then decide – the counters are near enough to each other 😉

I got Kiss n Tell. Didn’t really like Hot Date when I swatched it. Didn’t like the highlighter as well. I got the lipgloss and O’ Glow too. =) But I didn’t like the smell of the roll-on fragrance. A bit strange for me.

I actually think Kiss n Tell would look lovely on you. Hot Date might risk looking a bit muddy coz I remember you are quite warm toned. Still, waiting to hear your thoughts on these 😀

The one Smashbox item I can’t wait to try is O’ Glow, even though it’s not from Heartbreaker collection. I am so glad I read your post with Robin Flanagan before shopping. She is (but of course) right about her items. It was so good when I tested, there was no way I could have walked out of Sephora without it. Waiting for the right occasion. 😛

I am still debating with myself if I should go back for the Pink Sugar Roller Gloss. That was another good product. I remember it being non-drying, in fact, moisturizing. The lady was so nice as to recommend I test it on my lips. Good product. =)

You know what? O Glow takes a lot of work for me and I find myself applying quite a lot. That’s considering I’m pretty fair to start with. Still trying to get my head around it 🙂 Do share your thoughts if you get it!

Really? Hmmm… … The sales assistant used about 1 black bean size on each of my cheeks. Is this a lot? Come to think of it, maybe it is, considering how small that tube is. I will try if I can achieve the same effect using the same amount.

I found myself using more for O Glow. Perhaps its because its much sheerer but the effects are easier to control.

The Smashbox Photo Finish Primer is not bad for oil control – but I think my Skinfood Peach Sake Pore Serum does a better job, and at a lower price. As for helping foundation last longer, it’s once again not bad – although moisturizers do almost the same thing. So, I think it’s a good product overall – I’m just not sure I’m willing to fork out the $70 (plus-minus a few bucks) to get it from Sephora Singapore. If we could get it from the US, then it’s something I wouldn’t mind re-purchasing!

Thanks for sharing Lynn the Smashbox primer is about RM149 here (I think) which isn’t all that bad. Then again, I don’t quite need oil control so hm…

Did you know there was a Smashbox contest in The Sunday Star newspaper last month? The prize was the Smashbox Spring 2010 Heartbreaker collection!
I forgot to enter it due to work!! curse curse.. All you had to do was come up with a design for the brand.

Ah I didn’t know that. But then since I can’t design to save my life I wouldn’t have won either! LOL

I got Hot Date too (it’s such a nice palette, eh?) but didn’t fancy Baked Starlight as much as I’d thought.

i love the eye shadow palette and the pale pink blush too. but that liquid liner pen is what’s screaming at me. i think there is smashbox here at david jones or myer and i’d go check it out. you know how i am drawn to liquid eyeliners.

Oh I think you might like that liquid liner pen! I’ve been using it everyday (because its liquid and I don’t want it drying out) and it gives a good precise line. A bit too precise sometimes, but easily remedied 😀

The products look so pretty! I was tempted by the blush but resisted fortunately as I have a similar looking one from Gosh 🙂
