RuMe All Bag – Finally! An eco-chic bag with a zip

April 18, 2010 Paris B 26 Comments

When I was last gallivanting in Hong Kong and Bangkok, I found myself wishing more than once that the RuMe bags I was using to carry my shopping had a zip top (I carry the Medium RuMe when I travel). That way, I could use it as a spare bag and even possibly check it in. Instead, I was left lugging back groceries in an open bag, afraid it will tip over and spill at the airport (It never did) and yes you saw it right – I shop for groceries in foreign countries and bring them back 😛 I can’t possibly be alone in this!

Someone at RuMe must have heard my grumblings because tada! RuMe has a new foldable reusable bag that you can zip up – the RuMe All Bag! Like the RuMe grocery bags, you can roll it up into a nice little compact package that weighs under 100g. Tuck it into your handbag or suitcase and take it out at your destination when you go shopping. You can see how “expandable” it is above. I picked mine out in Fuchsia a bright bright pink. Those who know me will think its not quite me and you would be right.

The reason I went for fuchsia is because I’d stand out in a crowd (useful when you are travelling in a group and get separated) and its bright and I like bright colours! More pictures below.

The Rume All Bag has a zip top!

There are 3 exterior pockets (zip in front and elastic at the sides) and it holds a ton! On the tip off from a friend, I used the RuMe All to carry documents at work. When I carry documents, I mean a few kilos of documents. The bag did not fall apart and in fact, is pretty sturdy which belies its light texture.

I do prefer carrying my documents in an open top bag so I will be using my other Rume bags for this purpose (or getting a new one on office expense hah!). Its cuter than boring old business bags or *gasp* paper bags 😀

Since getting it, I’ve used mine for carrying documents, grocery shopping and on an overnight trip most recently to Penang where I whipped it out at the cashier to lug bottles of water from Gurney Plaza back to the hotel after a yummy seafood dinner. The black bits you see are non slip shoulder straps which is great for stability.

I can’t wait to use mine as a spare bag for impending holidays or perhaps for a beach holiday – goodness knows I need one! I always carry a spare bag when I travel because I know I will always return with much more than when I go – as we all do 😉 Its more compact than most travel bags and best of all, its light, takes up little space and I look good carrying it while I shop – haha! 😀

p/s Incidentally, I just realized that Earth Day is coming up on April 22 and coincidentally, last year I featured the RuMe Bags on Earth Day! 😀

In Malaysia You can get your RuMe All bag or RuMe bags from tinytapir.com. It comes in 5 bright colours and costs RM89. I might get the Teal one next. Elsewhere, look on rumebags.com for your local retailer.

Happy Sunday! I know exactly what you mean! I keep resisting getting those supermarket bags because it just bugs me and they don’t fold up as small either 😀

Tiny Tapir has a small booth at Ikano’s Earth Day carnival (until next Sunday, 25th April) – I think I saw the All Bag there until I read this post!

    Just FYI.

I have accumulated quite a few of these roll-up bags over time. But I always fail to bring them out. And haven’t use any since! I just can’t see myself carrying them no matter how nice they look. Prefer a recycle bag from one of favourite brands.

I always have one in my bag and I keep them by the house keys on the way out so I can grab them if I forget 🙂

Nice color indeed! if I were to get the same color, hope we won’t swap our bags yea…;) kidding….

Really a good idea to bring them shopping and for holidays, esp as part of carry-on on the plane. And it’s ‘waterproof’…so definitely good for the beach!

Haha who knows, in the rush we might just end up grabbing the wrong bag. Perhaps its time for a Teal one 😀 I really can’t wait to take this on holiday. I just know its going to be such a great success

I love eco friendly bags and this one sounds so useful. I love the color too, so pretty and bright.

I also like to go shopping from groceries when I’m travelling so that I can try new things that aren’t available here.

Yep! That’s the reason I go grocery shopping on holiday too. There are loads of products we might not get here or might be cheaper overseas

Teehee… A little impractical if you have long things that stick out e.g. baguettes or files but otherwise, its great 🙂

I love RuMe bags! altho i might be bias… :p

but i also am a fan of onyas… although not as stylish as RuMe’s, they’re good for travel because you don’t need to fold them, and since they’re a ‘rougher’ material, i don’t mind roughing it up a bit with them…

then again, the zips on the All Bag are awesome… not to mention the side pockets (which kind of make them less unisex, but what the heck, right?)

I haven’t tried the Onya. Maybe next time I should? 🙂 But I’m quite happy with the bags I have now and er… they never spoil so no excuse to get another 😛
