MAC SmoothBlue Technakohl Eye Liner Kajal

April 26, 2010 Paris B 18 Comments

MAC Smoothblue Technakohl liner

Here’s my latest MAC Cosmetics acquisition – the Smoothblue Technakohl Eye Liner Kajal. I was taken in by the bright blue when I swatched it in the store. I have been wanting a bright eyeliner for a while and this seemed to fit the bill.

I now need help on how to wear it LOL! I was thinking of doing something like my previous neutral look with mac pigments and purple liner. Reckon that would work? I have a swatch of Smoothblue for you below.

MAC Smoothblue technakohl swatch

The colour is really bright and vibrant. More teal or turquoise on my skin than straight metallic blue. Somehow blues tend to do that on my skin – I think its the yellow tones I have.

Anyway I found the texture soft – a little too soft as you can see in the swatch on the left. The tip broke on the 1st swatch and I have no way to resharpen it. I might try using the mini sharpener in the Beautilicious magic eyeliner – I reckon it fits.

The MAC Technakohl liner feels and looks like the Beautilicious Magic Eyeliner in fact. Both are made in Germany and both have similar packaging and both feel the same. The main difference is in the colours available. MAC has more vibrant colours. If Beautilicious could do the same, I’d be a happy camper!

So come on now, lets share your tips with me on how to wear SmoothBlue Technakohl liner! 😀

Hmmmm, if you wanna pair it with neutrals, why not? Or try it on your waterline! I heard from Makeupgeek.com that it makes the brown of the eyes stand out more… Dunno if it works for you, but yeah. ^.^

OOOOI? I thought that you don’t like MAC one?

I’m always wary about putting anything on my waterline – not to mention that it disappears really quickly. But I’ll give this a shot and see.

What a pretty color! 😀 Dontcha just love bright eyeliners? 😀

You can wear it on its own, or over other bright colors! I personally love matching bright blue liners with yellow and green eyeshadows! They give a nice twist to otherwise boring neutral eyeshadows too! 😀

if it doesn’t smudge, you can use it on your upper lash line.
I also like using colored liners the lower lash line. not on the waterline. Just where the lashes are.

I’ll try it on the lower lash some time. But you know, I can’t pull it off the way you do *pouts*

hey, i used to spend alot of time in MAC store to swatch all their eyeliners and I like their Technakohl too.. I think MAC produces one of the best pencil eyeliners… great stay and very pigmented…
this blue looked so vibrant and “happy” hahhaha but i’m not sure if I’ll ever wear this out 😛

Hehe I’m brave that way 😉 The brighter the better I say! I’m quite impressed with the Technakohl too. Their colours are certainly far superior to other brands but texture and otherwise is quite similar.

Technakohl! yes, they are quite soft, but they don’t smudge easily, for me at least.

I have 1 in Artistic License, a teal blue shade. So a wee bit similar to your Smoothblue. Like Jenn, I’d pair it with eyeshadows from the blue and green family and perhaps a dash of yellow on the inner corner of the eye.

I think it would look nice with a neutral look similar to what you did with the purple liner too.

And last but not least, I’d use such a bright liner on its own! may be for a weekend look, and smudge it a little before it sets.

i do love blues! but sadly couldnt really pull them off on the eyes. but on some days when i actually did, i pair it with a little shimmery pink eg kitten with a little dark brown on the crease. but i have nothing in my stash thats as bright as ur smoothblue. wish i’m as brave as u r!
