Couture to Cosmetics – Burberry to launch Burberry Makeup

April 26, 2010 Paris B 11 Comments

Miss Emma Watson made it hip to wear Burberry again. For me, Burberry has always held an image of understated English luxury, seeming more focused on clothes which are reasonably casual, practical and comfortable as opposed to haute couture. Mention Burberry and the first thing that pops into my mind would be the iconic beige trench coat with checked lining and the checked wool scarves. Other than that, I never quite thought of Burberry as haute couture runway material.

Burberry Makeup inspired by the Burberry Trench Coat

Well, haute couture or not, like Yves St. Laurent, Dior, Chanel and Giorgio Armani, Burberry is hoping to make their name in department stores cosmetics too. Its not hard to see why. Cosmetics, no matter how high end, is more affordable than fashion items and thus appeals to a larger section of the public and gets your name out there to the masses.

I might never be able to afford a classic Chanel tweed suit or the flap bag, but a RM95 Chanel lipstick is not beyond my reach. So, whilst a new Burberry trench coat or cashmere wool scarf might be too much luxury (and stupidity) in this sweltering weather, a new Burberry Beauty face powder or lipstick will allow me to own a bit of British luxury without looking too stupid.

The picture above is a first look at the upcoming Burberry Beauty makeup line. The packaging reminds me of Lunasol – bronzed shiny metal cases that attract fingerprints like the CSI’s fingerprinting kit.

The collection is inspired by the Burberry trench (does it mean we will be seeing a lot of nude or neutral shades?) and will have the signature checks etched into the surface of the powders. Prices are expected to be from US$24-US$60

We can expect to start seeing Burberry Beauty from July 2010 in Harrods, UK,  Nordstrom in the USA, Holt Renfew in Canada and Lane Crawford in Hong Kong. No news on other releases elsewhere in the world so I guess we’ll have to wait for our overseas friends to give us their first thoughts on Burberry Beauty!

Thoughts on this? I’m hoping they don’t keep it too true to the classic Burberry beige colour. It will just make it all too boring! Otherwise, I’m interested to see what comes out of this one.

Note: Burberry Beauty is available in Malaysia since January 2011 at Isetan KLCC

The packaging looks so pretty. Strange that they did not put in the oh-so famous tweed design, though. Oh, now I see it, its in the powders. ^.^ I hope it comes here soon!

The packaging looks nice and elegant, but the colors look so natural, boring and dupable! For that price, I’d like something more unique. I hope that picture dosn’t reflect the feel and look of the whole line and I’m looking forward to see what else they’re coming up with.

I’m hoping these aren’t representative of the colours available although they do say its inspired by the trench so it might just turn out boring!
