A romantic dream of mine is to ride the Orient Express train – a luxury train that takes you across Europe. Perhaps along the way, there might be a train murder mystery to solve. Or maybe not 😛
But this train was what came to mind when I saw that Chanel has a little collection out for Summer 2010 called Orient Extreme – nothing to do with the trains. I just had to tell you my little dream 😛
Now, why am I telling you about Chanel’s summer collection? Its because I have a little rant to go with it. This is a small collection – just an eye shadow duo and nail colours. That’s not my rant.
What’s my rant is the look that goes with it.
I know the name of the collection is “Orient Extreme” but this whole poofy geisha-esque hair and thick eyebrows with flicked out eyeliner is so typical of the orient that its boring and trite. There must be a new interpretation of the “Orient” without having to channel stark white skin and dark black poofy hair.
Also, what’s with the scary thick eyebrows and the scary looks especially the lady in the top left? I actually had the image of Cruella de Ville flash through my mind and the Asian lady forgot her lipstick 😛
I’m just sayin…
All that said, I love the look of the nails – gold with a black tip. I shall find a way to dupe this with any existing colours I have. But first, I’ll have to grow my nails to look even semi decent for painting 😛
As for the eyes, I know for a fact that that gold shadow is way too warm for me (pretty as it looks in the duo) but I could quite easily dupe this look with existing colours I have that work. We’ll see. Maybe I’ll do a scary thick black browed poofy hair look ala Chanel – whatcha think? 😛
Wanna share your first thoughts on Chanel Orient Extreme from seeing the pictures?

this collection might works pretty well for western but not on yellow skin asian ..
ParisB says
Definitely! That gold on the eyes would be a bit scary LOL

none of the 3 looks are nice. bleh
ParisB says
Sadly so 🙁
Hanny says
Chanel makeup was never really striking to me. >.< However, that cannot be said for the bags and the clothes, though! ^.^
ParisB says
Oh but wait till you check out their blushes and lipsticks! Amazing stuff. The rest is meh for me thus far
Lilian says
Not the look for me either. I’m much more attracted to Asian makeup ads like Maquillage Spring for instance – very lovely and make me want to buy everything in the range!
ParisB says
Yep! The Asian styles do make the girls look so alluring. I don’t know what Chanel was thinking of 😛
Lilian says
Riding the Orient Express is a dream of mine too! I love travelling by train.
ParisB says
I do too! But the romance is now lost with all these high speed trains rushing us to and fro. Still its fun – maybe I’ll go ride the E&O here 🙂

MUFE is having the exact same latest range. haha. Gold, metallic eyeshadows, more gold. Gold just reminds me of Christmas somehow… … I don’t know… Golden bells?
ParisB says
Actually gold reminds me of Chinese New Year LOL This would have been perfect then 😉
Liesl says
Thanks, Chanel! Great collection. Money saved coz none of it is calling out to me. Looks quite easy to find dupes. There are many good golds & peach out there.
ParisB says
Haha I think most of us will agree. This collection will likely call out to the fans of their nail polish rather than makeup
Shay says
Eeeeeeee…..looks like the 7th lunar month collection to me.
ParisB says
*giggles* all that’s missing is the red cheeks? 😀
Liesl says
The Asian model with the very thick defined black eyebrow is just so not funny. Makes me cringe.
Lori says
don’t like. it looks like all the silly stereotypes have about what asian women are “supposed to look like” packed onto one not very appealing model
