Ride the Orient Express with Chanel Orient Extreme – Summer 2010

March 29, 2010 Paris B 18 Comments

A romantic dream of mine is to ride the Orient Express train – a luxury train that takes you across Europe. Perhaps along the way, there might be a train murder mystery to solve. Or maybe not 😛

But this train was what came to mind when I saw that Chanel has a little collection out for Summer 2010 called Orient Extreme – nothing to do with the trains. I just had to tell you my little dream 😛

Now, why am I telling you about Chanel’s summer collection? Its because I have a little rant to go with it. This is a small collection – just an eye shadow duo and nail colours. That’s not my rant.

Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation SPF30 – A review

March 29, 2010 Paris B 10 Comments

I’m not a fan of “one size fits all” anything. Its bad enough with clothes but when foundations get in on the act, I get worried. I have not found a “one foundation fits all” to suit my skin tone thus far because they don’t really cater for the light end of the spectrum.

So, when I got my hands on Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation SPF30 I got a little worried. However, when I read through the instructions, I realized that despite the “foundation” in its name, this isn’t a foundation per se but more of a skincare with tint.

The Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation is supposed to provide natural translucent coverage while protecting your skin with non chemical SPF30 and delivering anti-aging benefits with Alpha Lipoic Acid to smooth skin texture and minimize lines and DMAE for lifting benefits. Their active sun protecting ingredients are zinc oxide 12.2% and titanium dioxide 3.2%. Knowing I’m a little allergic to zinc oxide I was wary but I needn’t have been because I did not break out from this. What I had instead was a bit of wrestle getting it to work for me.

First off, smell. I’ve read numerous reviews on this product that complain about its “fishy smell”. Truth be told, I did not detect this smell. There is a light citrus scent overlaying another stronger smell but no fishes feature. Maybe I’m not so sensitive 😛

Second, colour match. The little 30ml bottle comes with a separate pump for convenience. The liquid-cream pumps out thick and orange. Yes, you saw right. Its like an orange tan. The first few times I used this, I found my skin looking about 2 shades darker. I thought it was not that noticable until my colleague asked me why I was looking so tanned. I did eventually get it to work as I’ll tell you below.

How much do sales influence you?

March 28, 2010 Paris B 26 Comments

I was out last weekend at The Gardens and I saw that Isetan was on sale. Now, I knew I needed some new shoes – my regular pair is so worn its embarrassing! So I headed right for my favourite shoe brand – Easy Sprit. I don’t even look at other brands anymore – that’s how brand loyal I am for the sake of my feet 😛 Their sales rack is usually hit or miss – it had been a serious miss the past few sales but this time, I scored 3 pairs of shoes for the price of 1.5. They were all 50% off.

To the majority, the shoes I bought might be considered expensive. Each pair cost me roughly RM150 plus or minus on either side after discount. But I know that these shoes will last me a long time plus I know that they are super comfy and that my feet love them. Some of you on Twitter might remember me asking whether I should buy the grey patent pumps. I did 🙂

It got me wondering just how much sales influence your purchases?

MWS Says: Never Stop Reading!

March 27, 2010 Paris B 33 Comments

Reading broadens the mind and fills it with knowledge. I have my Mom to thank for inculcating the love for reading in me. I have her too to thank for my spending lots of money buying bookshelves to hold my numerous books above all other household furniture. One of the first things I bought for my new home was a set of book cases. Priorities! 😀

So, I know there are also bibliophiles out there amongst all of you who come to my site to read about makeup and beauty – hey! That’s reading too! 😉 – and who love books too. I have a site to share with you which I discovered recently that ships books worldwide for free – am so happy 😛

But before we go on, please take a look at what some of my sisters in beauty blogging have been saying in March 2010

  • Look good in 5 steps – its not hard! – AskMeWhats
  • I want to go for this Sothys Collagene Hyaluronic Intensive Treatment! – RedLusciousLips
  • Try this DIY face mask with artichoke tea to calm your skin – Soloverly
  • See Beetrice look like Dragonball at her latest hair escapade – Beetrice’s Reviews
  • You can’t beat the Lipglosseater for MAC swatches of the whole Spring Colour Forecast collection – LipGlossEater
  • Why Connie does not use local drugstore eyeshadows – SkinDeco

And as for the site for books? Its the Book Depository which is based in the UK. I’ll share my experience shopping with them below.
