I had Anon email me about my thoughts on the Louis Vuitton Sunset Boulevard clutch evening bag. I thought I’d share my thoughts here as well even if I’m no bag connoisseur.
The Sunset Boulevard is a clutch bag with a detachable strap. It only comes in Vernis leather for now (the shiny one for the less initiated 🙂 ) and it is crazy cute in person. I love how the gold hardware contrasts with the shiny leather and it makes you look and feel elegant all at once.
I was most captivated by the Sunset Boulevard in Bleu Nuit but it also looks good in the new light pink Rose Florentin. Vernis in light colours do run into problems of color transference, I was told by the SA, so not a good idea in a small bag.
The single strap allows it to be hand held or carried in the crook of your arm or you can convert it into a wristlet. Its gorgeous. It turned my dowdy outfit that day into pure evening elegance. Heck! I’d carry it with jeans and a T-shirt and it’d turn heads.
After a few years, the SA told me, I could detach the strap and use the pouch as a wallet because there are card slots and a zip compartment inside – how cool is that?
After parading up and down the store, admiring myself in the mirror, I gave up the Sunset Boulevard. My main grouse was with the strip of vachetta leather on the underside of the strap. The top is shiny vernis but the bottom is pale vachetta leather.
If you are familiar with vachetta leather, it is untreated leather that ages over time, turning into stages of honey brown. I love it in LV monogram products – the honey brown leather blends in beautifully with the monogram canvas. But I wasn’t sure how it’d look with the shiny vernis on an evening bag. My thought is that it will clash for an evening look which is usually sleek – honey brown leather didn’t seem to gel with the look for me.
That might be why the SA said I’d get sick of it and use it only as a wallet after a few years. I wasn’t about to drop RM3200 for this uncertainty as to its looks after a few years so I passed.
And that was my thoughts on the Sunset Boulevard! Its still cute though. Some day if I get a windfall or strike the lottery or get a sugar daddy, or have to attend a gazillion red carpet or black tie affairs I might get it – but not now 🙂
If you walk into the LV Boutique, ask to take a look at it even if you don’t buy it, and tell me if you aren’t as captivated by it as I am 🙂

This is really pretty–I like the red! But I wouldn’t spend that much on a tiny thing either. I’d rather spend it on something I can get more use out of! ;-D

This one’s strictly for when you have money you dont’ know what to do with – or a rich sponsor 😉

I’d actually get the grey one. It’s a very unusual grey 🙂 Love many of LV designs but wish they’d stop stamping the monogram all over it… Bag ogling when I fly over to M’sia? 🙂

Of course! In shorts and old tees too! LOL

Hm, looks lovely! Not tacky, but fashionable.
It’s the 1st LV bag I’d consider wearing actually – it’s got the chains, it’s small, the logos are kinda disguised and it’s patent! Cute clutch.

It is terribly cute. But so is the price *cringe*
