Asience Shampoo and Conditioner turned my hair to hay

Yu Kashii for Kao Asience Shampoo and Conditioner

There are times when trying a sample product turns you off the actual product for good. My experience with Asience shampoo and conditioner was one of them. I was given some sample bottles to try once during their promotional drive.

Now these are the best travel hair products ever. There is enough in the bottles to last 2 weeks of travel (I wash my hair everyday) and they are dinky and cute. I was going to review the Asience Shampoo and Conditioner a while back when I first tried it and I was going to tell you that it was wonderful.

Truly, upon use, my hair felt so soft and tangle free. It was great! I was in love! *cue lovebirds music and cute forest creatures ala Disney* If you see the picture of Yu Kashii above, my hair felt like hers – light as a feather blowing in the breeze.

But after repeated use, I realized that my hair was starting to feel drier and drier after every wash. It did not help when Mom took one look at my hair and said “Why is your hair looking like straw?”

That was the moment of truth.

Just 2 weeks using the Asience shampoo and conditioner and my hair went from tangle-free to dry as straw. I went back to my Kiehl’s Sunflower Protecting shampoo and it softened after a few days. 2 months later, I tried Asience again (I had loads of samples and I was travelling a lot) and boom! Hair of Straw.

Ironically, the samples I tried were the Asience Inner Rich range which is formulated for normal to dry frizzy damaged hair that is prone to breakage. Sorry, it didn’t work.

So I guess the Asience shampoo and conditioner were just not for me. Its affordable though at just about RM20+ a bottle at pharmacies and supermarkets. Damn my expensive hair 😛

Pros: Hair felt soft and manageable initially, Affordable

Cons: Turned my hair into straw 🙁

Incidentally, I still have some sample bottles and I do still stubbornly use them when I travel. Hair of Straw happens after about a week so I bargain for the soft tangle free feeling the few days I’m away on short trips. But that’s about all I’m game to use.

Are you liking the Kao Asience shampoo and conditioner? Perhaps it works for your hair but not mine 🙂 I am now harbouring a slight obsession with trying Kerastase – God help my wallet! 😛

Totally agree! Asience made my hair so ugly now!! I’m back to my old Tressemme too but my hair is still very dry. Previously I’ve used TBS honey shampoo & conditioner and brazil nut treatment – all very lovely products! loreal is quite drying for me too…

I think its to do with the drugstore shampoo thing – somehow there aren’t many good and “affordable” hair stuff around.

It didn’t work for me too. I even bought the full size shampoo and conditioner after all the hoo haa from the advertisement last year. Made my hair dry to the touch, like hay. Even Sunsilk and Head n Shoulders performed better than this shampoo.

does it only dry the ends of your hair
or will it dry your scalp too?
if it dries the scalp i dont mind giving it a go
the weather in malaysia is turning my scalp so oily
    🙁

I was too traumatized about the state of my hair to think about my scalp to be honest. I just had a huge bale of hay on my head. I think you might want to look for something that cleans the scalp of oil not dry it out, the latter isn’t good.

Hmmmm….maybe same thing happened to me. Cant exactly remember.

I always have a few diff brands of shampoo open. I will rotate the shampoos. Used to be that if I use the same shampoo for too long, my hair will be tangled and dry.

Now I’m using Clairol because the hydration one makes my scalp less oily. And a Loreal one for coloured hair.

    Hi PB!
i just bought whole range of inner rich ascience.use it twice, it does makes my hair softer and smells great but worsen my dandruff problem.
i use head and shoulders before..it does clear off my dandruff at least for 48 hours as they claimed but it really makes my hair dry and frizzy which cannot be taken care off even using loreal smooth intense anti frizz mask and serum.

i have long wavy brown henna colored hair and i wear ‘tudung ‘ at least 10 hour a day..can anyone suggest better hair care for me??

Hi Lina, So sorry to hear that the shampoo gave you a dandruff problem! That’s horrid isn’t it? I’m not the best person to ask about hair care I must say – I hope some reader can help you 🙂

I don’t use Ascience shampoo as it’s bad though- turning my hair to straw.
But using the conditioner alone would be better. But, Tsubaki still works better for me ^^

Now I know I’m not alone in this. Got the small shampoo n conditioner after a colleague raved bout it. She’s right and then I bought the bigger bottles and that was when it went downhill. My scalp started to itch n there was heavy buildup. Hair was even frizzier than before. Am using elseve now (orange bottle) and this spray on leave in conditioner w argan oil is AMAZING. Love it max. My hair has always been dry n frizzy and I’ve used many products but this elseve leave in conditioner is the best I’ve used so far – not oily n really tame my hair for more than 5 hours.

    Hi Paris,

Em…i’ve gone through lots of brands before finding the one that I’m using now..before this, I use Sunsilk (green bottle)..really works for itchiness ..then I swithced to Herbal Essences (blue one) …hooo….I really wasted my money.. I noticed that my hair went dry, fall ( I have to sweep the floor everyday to avoid a pile of hair on the floor..)

Then, I was intorduced to Schwarzkopf Bonacure (Repair & Recsue)..and it works!!Minimum hairfall..and I get back my baby soft hair..

I bought that recently as strongly recommended by my sister, but turned out the same result like you. Now my hair is turning into straw and I think this is the culprit for my terrible hair right now. Argh! =(

I could comb my very long hair at ease before I used this shampoo. But now, it’s so hard to comb it! Almost half of my hair become tangle if I didn’t use it with the conditioner!

Yes. I only got the “manageable” hair only if I use it with its conditioner; and now that the bottle was empty, my hair also turned into hay.

It’s like using too much baby shampoo OR body soap on your hair. I mean, it’s better to just live your hair without shampooing it for days with Asience. Period.

Hn. The only thing I like about this shampoo is the smell. Especially the conditioner. xDD

i used herbal essences shampoo and ASSience conditioner and my hair was smooth. but then when i started to use ASSience shampoo, my hair turned into hay in not more than a week! Weird thing is, my friend used it,and experienced great effects. But not for me though, vow never to use ASSience ever again! Just wanna ask, should i cut my hair short, or i just need to change to my old shampoo back so my hair is smooth again?

I have stubborn curls to the point I dare not let go of my hair when I’m out and always tie it up. Doesn’t help my parents always like my hair to be neat and proper since young. I used various random shampoos until a hairdresser recommend dove. It calms my hair in e long term until I start to experiment with essentials then ascience and now my hair is back to stubborn frizzy curls. All I wish for is a shampoo that can make my curls manageable and won’t be threatened by a slight gust of wind (haha)…. I don’t feel pretty but I’m fine 🙂

Just my opinion -you should just avoid washing your hair everyday? Unless you have some sort of illness or living conditions are “different” which of course I would not know, if so, I’m sorry to have offended. Washing your hair everyday doesn’t give it time to make new oil etc to self-provide luxurious locks. Washing everyday will just make your hair real dry… But yes, just my opinion.

NOW to the topic of your blog – I’ve used both Essential and Asience, Asience was great at the time which I didn’t colour, highlight or perm my hair (lol) altogether. Essential is “damage therapy” so it’s great for treated hair.

Well, Ascience shampoo smells great and its cute! BUT, it gave me itchy scalp. omg. At first I thought i had fleas or somesort, but when i switched shampoo’s (my brother’s JohnsonBaby shampoo), my scalp felt much better. AND IT DOESN’T ITCH.
