Dior Capture Totale One Essential Serum – One Serum to rule them all!

February 25, 2010 Paris B 48 Comments

I am one of beauty’s biggest sceptics. Call a product a miracle or promise me that it’d make me look younger and I’d look askance at you. That’s how I felt about the Dior Capture Totale One Essential Skin Boosting Super Serum. You will have seen the ads with Sharon Stone looking stunning in them. Its a mouthful so I’ll just call it the Dior One Essential Serum. But I was more sceptical than impressed to be honest.

The Dior One Essential serum says that it helps eliminate surface toxins on the skin and help reveal clearer, brighter skin that is more line free. Really? Since it contains AHA and Glycolic Acid, I don’t doubt the peeling process but how about the rest of it?

Because this serum helps to “peel” your skin and “clear toxins” its supposed to help your skin absorb the nutrients from other creams better. I took it on a trial spin – and after 1.5 months I’m still liking it and its effects! I’ve got some before and after pictures to show you below 🙂

Dior Capture Totale One Essential Serum

Since the Dior Capture Totale One Essential serum promises to help erase lines, I paid special attention to that. I have deep nasolabial lines or laugh lines. Its partly hereditary. So, that would be a good test of the serum’s properties – and it did work!

Here are before and after pictures to show you if the One Essential serum works. For me, it did. Scary close up pictures ahead!

The pictures below are quite self explanatory I think. The one on the left was taken before I started using the Dior One Essential serum. The one on the right was taken 3 weeks later. I only used the serum once a day – at night only because I found it a little too much for me to use it twice a day. Used twice a day, it broke me out a little bit. Used once a day, I experienced no problems and my skin actually looks better.

Dior Capture Totale One Essential Serum - Before and After pictures

The results was that the nasolabial line or laugh line had significantly lightened in depth and length. Where the line was lighter (by the side of my mouth) it had all but disappeared.

I’ve also realized that using this serum even just once a day, my skin has been looking and feeling smoother, clearer and more lifted. The other nice thing is that I seem to be having fewer blackheads which is awesome!

I use it after cleansing before toner and moisturizer from any other brand. Just 1 pump of this white milky liquid is enough for my whole face.

Another observation I have since using this One Essential serum, is that my patting time for the Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid lotion has decreased a little. It seems to absorb more quickly into my skin. I also use any old moisturizer du jour and everything’s peachy. Perhaps it boosts the efficacy of the moisturizers – I’d like to think so but I can’t quite say with 100% certainty except for the Hada Labo toner for which I can tell its absorbing more quickly.

Point to note: You are advised to use a high SPF sunscreen when using Dior Capture Totale One Essential because of the presence of glycolic acid which can make the skin more sensitive to the sun. I use high SPF sunscreen regardless so I’m fine in that regard.

A 30ml bottle of serum retails at RM360. Now, don’t gawp so – its Dior and it works! 😉 Here’s the deal though – I’d say its more suitable for those at least 35-40 years and up which is great because its more affordable at that age 😉 It might be too rich for young skins – I’m no spring chicken and I can only use it once a day or risk breaking out a little.

Pros: Lightens lines on the skin, Makes my skin feel and look smoother and clearer, Fewer blackheads

Cons: Expensive, A little rich if I use it twice a day but thats not quite a con

Its now more than 2 months down the road since I started using One Essential. I detoured a little into uncharted territory using something else the past 2 weeks (no the lines did not come back), but I’m getting back on the road with this one – my skin looks way better with this!

I know some of you have picked up samples of the Capture Totale One Essential serum from the Dior counter – care to share your thoughts after trying it out? 🙂

Hi Paris-I just purchased and used and have a smattering of bumps/pimples (I have break out prone skin even tho I’m 50);) Was that your experience? Paula gave it a terrible review since alcohol is it’s 4th ingredient. I’m a bit panicky since I want to avoid a breakout and for so much money I want results!

Hi I was told that some small pimples may be expected but with prolonged use it should go away and should not develop into acne. I did not experience anything but better looking skin but I do think skincare is a very personal thing that may not work for everyone. Good luck.

Hi, did you check with the SA at the counter before purchasing it? I personally think 23 is a bit young because Capture Totale is targeted at slightly older women. But if you want to use it, I don’t see a problem. I use this at night and its a serum so yes, it stays on your face.

Hi, I have a question…I am 30 years old and have used the same high quality skin products for over 4 years. I just recently switched to Dior products…I got the Capture Totale serum, moisturizer, night cream, and
XP eye cream (MIRACLE PRODUCT!!!!), however I’m having a little bit of breakouts, no rashes, just tiny little bumps. Since you mentioned you broke out a little with the One serum, do you think it’s normal when switching products? The One serum was going to be my next purchase, but wondered your thoughts and wondered if you’ve ever tried other Dior skin products. I think they’re FABULOUS, so I’m hoping it’s just a matter of my skin adjusting. Thanks for any input/advice!

Some people experience breakouts with One Essential, some don’t. When I use it twice a day, I get little bumps, but if I keep it to once a day, its alright. I was told that with continued use, the bumps will go away but different people will experience different reactions.

I got some samples of this by accident, the woman was trying to sell me the claronsic cleansing brush, she ended up giving me samples of the essential serum for my face and the eye as well. I am in my 50s and my skin is looking o.k but under my eyes it looks like they are sinking in. I have tried everything and nothing really seems to work for very long. It does work very well, I know it is very pricey stuff. so i went to every place and got samples until I can afford to get a bottle for the under eye and the face. I would say it is worth the investment if you have older skin if you are young i would just use a regular moisturizer and the clarasonic cleansing system. I have not had any reactions to this and yes I have very sensitive skin and roscea . I am also allergic to para beans so I know this product does not have that or I would have broken out.

Age wise, yes but if you are already seeing the problems its supposed to address then I don’t see why you can’t use it.

I am in love with this serum!
Funnily enough, I has the same reaction to Lancôme Genefique like you did, I had proper skin allergic reaction. But I switched to Dior one essential and it looked the best it has been in ages. I just bought the 50ml version even though I have the 30ml version still 2/3 full. 🙂

I had never experienced skin care products that worked like Dior’s Capture Totale line. I am 48 and I have been using it for over 5 weeks now. I don’t have many age lines and marks, what I do have are some adult acne scars (if you have any suggestions about that, I would love to know!). My skin is so much better though. I feel it looks fresh and bright. The products are so delicious to use, a luxury experience, the scent is not overpowering and I think it is lovely. I can’t say enough about it. I use the One Essential and the Multi-Perfection Concentrate serums. Last week I received the cream and the Instant Rescue Eye Treatment (the juri is not out on this one yet, but it feels great to use the paladium applicator).
One last thing, have you tried the One Essential mask?? It is worth every penny (I know… so many pennies!!!!). The skin feels so fresh and smooth afterwards. The first time I used it stang a little and my skin felt very sensitive, but it was only on the first time.
Well, thanks for your articles, I enjoy very much reading it. 🙂

I used One Essential for 7 or 8 days in December 2016. Day by day I saw dull red lines form on my face (cheeks) in geometric patterns (2 sides of a triangle). They have not faded or disappeared to this day. I stopped using it on my face and continued to use it on my neck for another 7 days until I saw that I had a patch of red under my chin (2×2 cms) which has not faded either, still clearly visible. I am told I will have to have laser treatment to remove the marks, which are disfiguring.
So I still have an almost full 120 euro bottle of One Essential which I would like to give to a friend who uses the product. Would it still be usable?; it was kept tightly closed.
