Blast from my past: The Body Shop Passion Fruit Facial Cleanser

February 16, 2010 Paris B 34 Comments

When I was on college and even while I was in university, The Body Shop Passion Fruit Facial Cleansing Gel was my go-to facial wash. At that time, on a student budget, The Body Shop was considered “luxury”. Well, not while I was in the UK but here in KL it was.

What I remember most was the lovely pink gel that cleansed my skin without stripping it of its moisture, the wonderful scent of passionfruit (I love passionfruit – the tart taste is awesome!), and the recycling drive!

Back in the day, The Body Shop used to run a programme where if you buy anything from their store, you could bring back the empty bottle to be refilled and get a discount for being environmentally friendly. If you remember this, High-5! 😀

Being a poor student, this was great for me. But this practice was stopped later for hygienic reasons I’m told, which then saw me wandering away from the brand.

However, The Body Shop is bringing back some “old skool” goodies from their checkered past (based on the USA website and tipped off by The Muse) and one of it is this Passion Fruit Facial Cleansing Gel!

I happened to be at The Body Shop at BSC recently, and saw that its out here too! A 250ml bottle of Passion Fruit Cleansing Gel retailed at RM29.90 so I picked it up. I’m no longer that impoverished college student who can’t afford it, but it would be nice to pretend for just a little while, that I’m back in College 🙂

I’ve been using it these few days while I’m away on CNY break and its just as I remembered – gentle and light on the skin. The scent is a little sweet and stronger than I remembered though and the 250ml will last a long while.

Now here’s the scary part – do YOU remember the original Passion Fruit facial wash? 😀

thanks for the shout out 😀 I haven’t tried yet and I swear I can’t remember any of this stuff and I’m ahem…over the age so I should remember 😀 The cucumber stuff seems to tickle a faint memory but the rest like the banana shampoo, this ge, ice blue shampoo, etc…I don’t remember AT ALL!

Alot of this stuff was content purchased from Cosmetics To Go aka what later turned into Lush I suspect, such as Ice Blue so I find it interesting it’s back!!!!!!!

    Can’t wait to try 😀

Ooh I didn’t know about the similarity with Lush! I remember a friend telling me that Blue Ice shampoo was good for dandruff. 😀 Thanks for posting about it and making me stop by TBS 😀

It doesn’t smell much of passionfruit though – take a healthy sniff first! 😉

I was a secondary student when I brought a small bottle of it!
My favourite product at that time was the clear eye gel which helped to reduce my puffy eye bags in the early mornings.

Should be Elderflower Eye Gel. Don’t need that anymore. Now I need something for the fine lines under eyes……..

Ah yes I remember that one now. I’m quite happy with either the Strivectin or Vichy for my eye area 🙂

Ahhh … the good ol’ days! Remember how popular Fuzzy Peach was? And the Banana Conditioner and Dewberry lotion? It’s great to see them back! I’ll be grabbing a couple of bottles of Banana goodness. 🙂

OMG Dewberry! I must be the only person who cannot stand the smell of the signature Dewberry 😛 Everyone in college was wearing the perfume *gag* But Fuzzy Peach looks like a good one to return and I’ve never tried Banana so I could try that too!

“You Are Not Alone” (acc.to Michael Jackson’s song) – I didn’t like the Dewberry scent either LOL

Too bad they don’t take in the empty bottles back too. I remember seeing many ladies coming in with the giant Vitamin E body lotion bottles. Have you tried the Vitamin E body lotion? Personally, I don’t like the scent either and stopped there…

Yay! High 5! I could never stand Dewberry 😛 I used to use the Vitamin E for my face but not for the body. It was pretty good for the face – and I even used Carrot which was great for dry climates. I think all these are no longer available except Vitamin E

Umm… Now that I’m working full time, I still find it hard to fork out moolah for TBS for some strange reason >< I guess, for me, a shower gel is just a shower gel but having said that, I DO splurge in some nicer ones to be used on crappy days 😀

YES, I do remember the passion fruit facial wash, so we ARE of the same generation!!! *runs away to examine lines on face*

Ah I don’t fork out much for TBS most times – I just wait for their sale LOL! Less of a “splurge” that way.

I don’t remember the passionfruit cleansing gel, but i do know that the recycling drive is still going strong! (in singapore that is) the only thing is, you don’t get a discount anymore, but i still take my bottles back cos i’m an eco-freak. the passionfruit gel sounds awesome, i must check if sg has it yet!

Darn! I was told the recycling drive isn’t available here anymore due to hygiene reasons. People weren’t bringing in clean enough bottles to be refilled.

Let’s do a high-5… I’m at the age where I remember all these old skool products. I saw them a couple of months ago and was quite excited but was in rush and didn’t get to explore fully. I loved the passionfruit cleanser as a teen! From the sounds of it, it’s still as good 🙂 I am so thrilled that TBS brought back a few old favourites such as the Fuzzy Peach shower gel and Banana shampoo.

Do you recall that they used to have the perfume oils in so many different scents? I really wish they would bring those back too.

High 5! Yet another vote for the Banana shampoo! Methinks that is where I will pop into soon 😀 Yes I do remember the perfume oils that used to be displayed right at the front of the store. I used to use Tea Rose – it was rosy and fresh smelling. But you know what? Dewberry really killed it for me 😛

Never seen this one before. Fuzzy Peach isn’t THAT old. I am *ahem* still using mine *ahem* Body wash so it is okay. No body pimples or anything so it’s all good.

The banana, dewberry, etc all too old for me.

Hi there! I found your blog by sheer accident and I’m definitely a reader now! Just wanted to give my thoughts on The Body Shop Passion Fruit Facial Cleanser:

I’ve got combi-oily skin and prefer gel cleansers, so I thought I could use this as an affordable alternative to my usual Clinique routine. I guess what I liked about it was definitely the price, but I find that it doesn’t lather up as much as I’d like, or leave me with a squeaky clean feel.

Will you be reviewing the other originals too? : ) I’m curious about the shampoo!

Oooo i must have missed out this post of yours! I am currently using the passion fruit cleasing gel too 🙂 the reason I bought it was because I had a sudden flashback of my days in uni while I was standing in front of it in thebodyshop. I kid u not! I loved the cleansing gel because the scent was great and it did not strip off my skin’s moisture. Perfect for both summer and winter. Immediately, I grabbed it together with the banana conditioner. The banana conditioner is a diasappointment though… Now I remembered why I do not have fond memories of the conditioner… I am currently ‘overusing’ the conditioner so that I can finish it quickly :p
