You might have noticed Shu Uemura stores taking on a healthy shade of red recently. This is in line with the launch of the new Red:Juvenus skincare line by the brand.
The Red: Juvenus line replaces the previous BG line (green packaging) which I’d used for a spell, and is a rejuvenating skincare line targeted at reducing the first signs of aging.
The key ingredients are Amalaki – a red berrylike fruit found in ancient Japanese medicine, Pomegranate and Lycopene extracted from Tomatoes. All centered around the colour red hence the name and sleek packaging of the products. The Red: Juvenus skincare line promises to revitalize the skin, make the energy flow better, protect cells, hydrate and add nutrients.
Marketing aside, the key question is, how does it feel on the skin? I’ve tried some samples of the Vitalizing Retexturizing Emulsion, Intense Vitalizing Concentrate and Vitalizing Refining Lotion and have some thoughts on these.
Shu Uemura Red: Juvenus feels very light on the skin
The texture of this line of skincare is very light on the skin and absorbs quickly. The Vitalizing Refining Lotion is a toner but has a thick gel like texture that may take some getting used to. You apply it with a cotton pad and it imparts a cooling feel to the skin.
The Vitalizing Concentrate is a light serum that similarly absorbs quickly and the Retexturising Emulsion is a light moisturizer.
If you detest products that have a heavy oily feel, you might like these that contain the signature Deep sea water found in all Shu Uemura products.
It is not very hydrating for drier skins
As I have slightly drier skin on my cheeks, I was interested to see how the light texture would fare on my skin. Unfortunately, it did not quite hit the spot. My skin did not feel hydrated much especially at night. In the day, it was fine but at night, I had to use another cream over the emulsion. Perhaps the Vitalizing Retexturising Cream might help.
Scent is light and refreshing
Yes there is a scent in the products but it is not overwhelming nor is it a heavy perfume. The scent is light and refreshing so it will not bother most.
Shu Uemura targets this for those in their mid-20s who are starting to see the first signs of aging and want to counteract it.
The products in the Shu Uemura Red: Juvenus range are the Vitalizing Refining Lotion/Lotion Enriched (RM135), Intense Vitalizing Concentrate (RM240), Vitalizing Line Reducing Eye Essence (RM160), Vitalizing Retexturizing Emulsion/ Cream (RM240).
My Experience with Red: Juvenus
I used the samples for a week plus till they ran out. It was nice I must admit, but lacked a certain oomph! for me. Perhaps its not quite meant for those with drier skins or maybe my skin was feeling a little spoilt after a recent discovery of a moisturiser that really plumps up and hydrates and keeps my skin hydrated! 🙂
Have you tried anything from Red:Juvenus? You might be able to score some samples at the Shu Uemura boutiques or counters. Let me know what you think of this line if you’ve have tried it 🙂
Stay beautiful,
Paris B

Hi Nikki
You are absolutely right about the packaging – I love it too!

I just went for a makeover at their counter and they got to try this entire new line. I agree that everything is very light and quickly absorbed. I’m loving the sample of the eye cream but since it did not work for your dry cheeks, I’ll skip that one too.
Since you are a fan of physical sunscreens, you might want to check out Philosophy’s the supernatural superbeautiful spf 20 tinted moisturizer that just came out. It only contains zinc oxide and titanium dioxide – it’s rare to come across only physical blockers! I can’t wait to get my hands on one =)

Hi Babybubblz
I’d heard the eye cream is good and perhaps its just that I have drier skin than most so what does not work for me may just work for you 🙂 We don’t get Philosophy here 🙁 But I’ll bear your recommendation in mind if I can get my hands on some – Thanks! 😀

I’ve tried the whole line sampling, which includes lotion, eye serum, concentrate, emulsion and cream. Though it does absorbed quickly into my skin but do not seem to show much result on my skin. Anyway, I love the scent and the packaging, therefore going for it. P/s : I have combination skin.

Thanks for all of your reviews, I enjoy reading them. I tried the eye essence sample, and really liked it. I felt like it did moisturize my eye and even more than that, it helped reduce some of my dark undereye circles. I am not sure if I should buy or not, though I probably will as it seemed effective for me.
Have a question, though. Do you know if you can get urban decay eyeshadow primer anywhere? I’m from Thailand and can’t get it here. Thanks!

I have been using Shu Uemura cosmetics and the cleansing oil for years, had never tried the skin care lines. 2 months ago, I bought the Red: Juvenus serum concentrate and received the lotion 50ml, emulsion 10ml as gifts, together with other purchases. Tried it on for 1 week, it does not seem to see any difference on my skin.

I use it for 2 moth in summer, and I love it. Then the cold time arrives and my skin starts hating it 🙁

I’ve been using this line for 2 years. It’s a nice product and it smells good too. It keeps my skin hydrated and smooth. In my opinion, this product is worth buying. =)
