While I was browsing at Watsons Gurney Plaza Penang, I came across a little stand with Sukin Organic products and Renew Skincare products on it. Interesting! I’d been reading about organic products coming to Watsons but haven’t seen it for myself.
Despite not being quite into organic skincare, I’ve tried the Sukin Foaming Facial Cleanser and the Purifying Shampoo and Conditioner from when they were only available in Singapore. I’ve also tried the Body Wash which is alright but I decided the whole line wasn’t for me.
Renew Skin Care however, was new to me. I was interested in getting a hydrating face mist (purely because of the smell of roses) and saw they were available in both brands. Renew Skin Care cost RM49.90 for 100ml while Sukin Organics cost RM34.90 or so for 125ml. There were testers for both items and I tested both – they felt and smelt the same.
Sukin and Renew Skin Care Hydrating Face Mist look the same
It was puzzling, so I read the labels and found that they contained almost exactly the same ingredients for the hydrating mist. The other thing I noticed was that both companies shared the same address in Australia. When I checked the website, the address for Sukin Organics was different from that on the label and Renew Skin Care did not have any mailing address on the site.
Labels on the Hydrating Face Mist were similar/same
Literature wise, both labels bore almost exact same wordings on how to use the hydrating mist. The sole difference I could discern was that Sukin Organics Hydrating Face Mist was cheaper than Renew Skin Care and I knew not why!
In the end, I picked up the Hydrating Face Mist from Sukin Organics. I figured that since they looked about the same, I might as well pay a lower price for more product.
I could not help but wonder though if they were essentially the same or similar products packaged and branded differently or at the very least owned by the same owner/company. If you look at the products offered by both brands (on their websites) I do notice startling similarities in the way products are named, in the packaging and in the ingredients used. I’m not too fussed with that since most large cosmetics companies are owned by the same people after all – its just rather startling to see them on the same stand thats all.
Renew Skin Care contains Rose Hip Oil
To be fair to both brands, I did notice that whilst other products contained similar ingredients, Renew Skincare has a noticable addition of Rose Hip Oil in most of their products except the hydrating mist. That might explain the price difference. Renew Skin Care was noticably more expensive than Sukin Organics. I was rather interested initially in trying the Renew Skin Care moisturizer but heaven knows I still have tubs to get through!
Glad to see Organic products in mainstream pharmacies
I’m also quite glad to see organic skincare freely available at mainstream pharmacies. It offers the consumer more choice and although I’m not 100% into organic skincare I know of people who would be interested to try them to see if it might be better for their skin than conventional brands and previously, unless you were savvy, it was not easy to find organic skincare. Prices are a little on the high side compared to regular cosmetics lines so I’m not sure how it sits with the general public – most of whom may not quite care about organic skin care if no one explains it to them.
If you have tried either Sukin or Renew and want to share your experience do feel free to leave a comment! 🙂 I’ll let you know what I think of the Sukin Organics Hydrating Face Mist in a while.
Stay beautiful,
Paris B
Hi, I have been using the Renew moisturizer for about five years and I think its great. Its one of the few products that I find doesn’t irritate my skin and provides enough moisture. A few times I have run out and haven’t been able to buy more, so have purchased another product, only to find I get a breakout(reaction as I have sensitive skin). I always go back to Renew. Their Rosehip oil is also very good and I find their products way cheaper to most organic brands we have in New-Zealand
Hi there! I bought a set of Renew rose hip oil and the antioxidant moisturiser from a local NHG polyclinic in SG. I was browsing through the shelf for a good product in clearing off acne scars until a promoter recommended me to this product. I was doubting her. Nevertheless i bought the set in the end which only cost me SGD 32! Furthermore it’s rose hip oil! I’ve read about all the good things about rose hip and i thought to myself that i might as well give it a shot.
The rose hip oil was a bit greasy but it absorbed rather fast. I actually prefer the Antioxidant Moisturiser. It hydrates my skin really, really fast. I’d apply it day and night. I noticed there is a significant reduction of marks and pigmentation, and my skin is now very well hydrated.
I’d recommend this product to anyone who wish to have their skin well hydrated and supple! (:
How much is the price for Sukin product range at Watsons?
