Samples: Clinique Foundation and Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair

September 11, 2009 Paris B 23 Comments

samples

Samples are a great way to try a product before you decide to buy. Whilst its normal to receive samples of skin care products, its harder to get samples of makeup.

So, when Clinique had their 7 day foundation sample promotion (on now until September 20, 2009) I had to pick up a couple. I’m new to Clinique’s foundations so it was a good way to try their liquid foundations to see how I like it.

I got samples in the Clinique Superbalanced foundation and Superfit oil free foundation. I’d been more interested in the Superfit foundation because its new and because many have raved about it but the first counter I went to did not want to oblige me. I’m not sure why. So, if you’re in MidValley Megamall and want to pick up your foundation samples do note that I had a better experience at the Clinique counter in Jusco than in Metrojaya.

The former knew what to do and approached me well and politely, telling me about the promotion and helping test the foundation with a foundation brush. The sample given was generous and will easily last me more than 7 days. The latter tested me with a cotton bud, gave me enough to last 3 days, tried to make me buy it outright and did not tell me the samples were free without obligation until I asked. I’ll review the sample foundations later.

I also picked up samples of the new Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair serum. I was an ANR devotee many years ago until I started getting holes in my pocket 😛

Ironically I could probably afford it more now than I could then but thats life. That said, with this new formula, I might just go back to ANR – its lovely on the skin and I like it and I’m reminded again just why I loved it in the first place. There are also a couple of very very tempting promotions going on for purchases of Advanced Night Repair. Darn darn darn! Time to prep my birthday wishlist methinks!

Have you picked up your Clinique samples yet? Which Clinique foundation do you prefer? Are you liking the new Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair formula too?

Stay beautiful,

Paris B

    Hi ParisB,

I collected both samples (at different times) – the foundation sample was pretty generous compared to the ANR sachet that I got (which probably lasted me 2-3 days?).

For once I was given a foundation shade that actually blended into my skin, thanks to the SA at the Midvalley Jusco counter.

I was given the Superbalanced sample also; let’s see if I can get them to let me try the Superfit as well… depends on whether they could persuade me out of it first or not…

Been using it for a few days now – so far, so good.

      Hi Synical

Ya the ANR sachet lasted me about 2 days each which is a right bummer! I think I prefer Superfit to Superbalanced (that left me a little oily) but we’ll see!

    Hello Paris

i got the estee lauder samples too, but have yet to try. will wait until my existing bottle of ANR finishes. ANR is a god-send, i may skimp on other things in life but i won’t compromise on my ANR.

      Hey Kay Es

You know what? You might be right that ANR is a staple. I’m thinking of putting it back into rotation once I get the new bottle

      Hi Abby

There’s no harm asking the sales people for extras – some might oblige.

Is the sample foundation available at Clinique’s counter nationwide ? or just in KL ?

      Hi Synaesthesia

I believe it should be nationwide. Check the Clinique counter. There should be a huge yellow or orange sign on it.

i have oily but dehydrated skin and am wondering if the ANR would be a little too rich for my skin type… i’m in my mid-30s, btw, and would easily get bumps on my skin when i use repairing serums/lotions.

      Hi Juan

From my personal experience, ANR is one of the mildest serums I have ever used. It worked for me when I had oily skin and its supposed to help lock in moisture so it might help with the dehydrated parts.

SA in Jusco MV was always rude to me&my friends,. surprise you had better service there.
I redeemed mine at Clinique one utama new wing.
The counter was inside Parkson but they moved out and have a larger counter just in front of Zara!
service was very good and nice and friendly~~
    try there ~

      Hi akiki

I guess different people may have different expectations or just different SAs? I was surprised too. I had crappy experiences from Clinique everywhere in the past.

We can just walk to the counter and redeem without any vouchers or stuffs like that for Clinique? Just printed out the Estee Lauder voucher, wondering whether I would have time to redeem it..

      Hi Tracy

As far as I know, no voucher is needed. There should be a sign on the counter informing of the free 7 day sample. If you still don’t get it, let me know and I’ll double check with the people at Clinique.

Ooo.. I picked up my clinique sample last Friday! I got the Superfit 66 =)
The SA was really nice because I’m a regular with her… She tested two different shades on each lower cheek with a foundation brush to test the colour… Then she applied the correct colour over my face plus some powder =)
    She’s the best! I didn’t even ask her to do that… haha…

I got the supermoisture foundation in sunway pyramid… The SA is super nice, when i ask for the foundation, she even help me to analyse my skin condition and give me a mini makeover!! She did not even insist on me buying anything! However she is actually working in KLCC and only came 2 help! she is so nice! i will definitely go back 2 her!
