You won’t see many posts about nails or nail polish here on my blog mainly because I’m not into nail polish. I’m also a klutz and my attempts at painting my nails always end up in disaster. If I can do the left hand, the right will be messed up and vice versa.
However I’d been inspired to try some form of nail art after reading the nail art afficionados – Nikki and PrettyBeautiful so I took the plunge. My nail polishes are by Bloop de Paris – an inexpensive brand you can pick up from some Watson’s pharmacy, Bloop’s counter in Sunway Pyramid or even at the KLIA.
The 2 shades I have are a lurid cream pink (H2C8) and a shimmer-glitter gold (H558). I have actually worn the gold shimmer by itself – its fool proof and gives nails a very festive look – perfect for the coming year end festivities perhaps? The polishes dry quite quickly and were quite long lasting – they didn’t fade or chip for about a week except for when I chipped it prying a stapler out of a document 😛 Yes I abuse my poor nails.
I did something very simple I’d like to call Golden Tips O’Glory – which is pretty much self-explanatory.
Here’s how I did it:-
- Paint the pink nail polish all over the nail – do 2 coats and let it dry.
- Paint the gold shimmer glitter polish on the tips of the nails only. Let it dry. Not to worry if its not straight – you aren’t doing a french manicure.
- Erm… thats it! 😛
Whilst fun, I don’t quite forsee me doing this again in a hurry. I am impatient that way. Besides I chipped my nails not too long after – typical! Sigh…
The band of gold is rather wide because the brush is rather wide. I think it looks better this way too. The nice thing about using the golden shimmer polish on the tips is that you can easily touch up when it chips or when the polish fades around the tips. Mistakes are less noticable this way, and its a pretty decent way to cover up chipped polish! Just freshen it up as a form of nail art! 😉
Bloop de Paris nail polishes retail for RM9.90 each and I’ve seen them go on sale often. They come in a whole rainbow of colours in various textures too.
I’ve no illusions about my virgin nail art attempt looking wonderful so go on then. Tell me if it works or even if it doesn’t or what I could do better 🙂
Stay beautiful,
Paris B
wee. its so pretty!
love the pink shade too 🙂
btw here;s an award for you http://101-compiled-beauty.blogspot.com/2009/09/three-awards-interesting-blog-i-your.html
have fun
Hi Lynn
Thanks for the award! 🙂
I really like Bloop nail polishes too! I have one that’s gold with peachy pink sheen. I really like the pink one that you have on! good job with the glitter too. haha. I’m only starting to venture into nail polishes. I still suck at applying them :p
Hey Connie
I suck too and its going to be a long while before I try using polish again!
That’s a great attempt! I’m too pathetic and clumsy to keep nail polish chip-free on my fingers so sadly, I have to get that a rest.
Hey Tine
Haha… glad you think so. I’m usually too impatient and I think it shows 😀
The nails look so pretty! I love the pink shade too.
Hi Gio
Thank you for being encouraging 🙂
I’ve got a couple of bloop cosmetics in my collection
and you are right, the nail colors are very lasting, i remember having one on for about a month and it still looked lovely.
Hi Eunice
I’m quite surprised at the quality. Thanks for sharing your experience
Elianto has cheap nail polish too.here’s a tot-u can try a light glitter pink as base colour then a glittery clear sea blue nail colour for the top lining.but I think the gold lining is bit too thick ad. The pink colour was actually a verysweet subtle shade and doesn’t look like the5 year old girl pink on you :p
Hi Germaine
Yep I have a mini collection of Elianto polishes from their last sale. Its decent too for the price.
It’s definitely a YAY for me! it feels great to have pretty nails right???? 🙂 Thanks for linking me, people might think I’m an expert…thanks for your trust in me and my baby sister Prettybeautiful 😀
Hi Nikki
Yes it does but its not quite me LOL… I think I”m still more of a plain nail girl – and yes, you are quite the expert on nail art!
Nay for me but thumbs up for your attempt!
p/s: I wondered why your pics can’t show up in my feed reader?
Hi R
Thanks for the comment. I’m not sure if pics are showing up now but its due to prevention of hotlinking 🙂
The pink and gold glitter doesn’t get along that well for me. Maybe you need a darker/brighter red to get the gold glitter to pop out more.
Hey Liz
Thanks for the tips!
Hooray at the attempt PB! Its good to get all girly and having painted nails just makes me feel a little special….although, having perfectionistic tendencies means I hate seeing chips and once they appear, I absolutely have to take them off!
Hey JackieA
I’m the same – I see a chip and next thing you know I remove the color and thats the other thing I hate about having nail polish on – the removal. My nails always feel so dry and horrid for days afterwards
w0000t welcome to the polish clan! dont worry, if there is anything, we can always count on nikki the master to help us!
Hey prettybeautiful
Yep Nikki the master indeed! 😀
I like the pink on you 🙂
What I like to do is get different colored and textured glitter in clear nail polishes and layer over existing nail polish to freshen it up or to give it a new look. And I like to use contrasting colors, like blue glitter over fuschia nails 🙂 Just to see how it looks like
Hi Sweetlikechocolate
Thank you – I thought the pink was quite cute though a lot brighter in person. Art is experimentation after all 🙂
where is the RM9.90 selling? I mean which store? lol..hardly go out.
Hi Sherry
Its the price at all Bloop counters – look in Jusco, Shins, Parkson, Sasa, F&E Perfumes, Metrojaya, Sunway Pyramid (standalone booth) KLIA and LCCT LOL… They are pretty elusive – sometimes you get them cheaper when they go on sale 😉
Ooo… I’ve done these kinds of nail art before… hehe… but my mom thought they looked weird… lol… I used a nude pink for base and use a slightly darker shade of metallic pink on the tips… hehe…
My nails are long enough now but I’m always dealing with alcohol… lol… I’m no alcoholic it’s just that when I’m in the micro lab I have to gram stain a lot of my samples, hence the use of alcohol =)
Nice… I really like bloop’s concept =)
Looks like an ice cream stall… hehe…
