Reader Shyra wrote in with her queries about eye care – eye cream and eye makeup remover specifically. Here’s her query:-

Hi Paris. I just came across your blog today and I’m happy that you’re kind enough to provide information on some products. Thanks for your review! 🙂

Btw, I have 2 questions for you:

* I have a very bad dark circles (and there’s puffiness) can you recommend any products that is good for it? Any eye cream and/or mask?

* Can you recommend to me which brand gives the best face and eye make up remover (not in oil type as I was told not to use the oil type) as I’m looking for these products.

Your recommendations are much appreciated. Thank you 🙂

~Shyra~

To answer Shyra I split the questions into 2 – eye cream and eye makeup remover.

For eye cream, I’ve used a couple of products:-

  • Garnier Roll On eye treatment – fun but no discernible results for me other than a cooling sensation on the skin.
  • Strivectin SD eye cream – helps with fine lines, less so with puffiness and dark eye circles
  • Dior Capture Instant Rescue Eye Treatment – visibly depuffs puffy eyes almost immediately and brightens the eye area – good for mornings when you wake up looking and feeling like some bug eyed monster! Review coming up! 😉

For eye and face makeup remover, Shyra prefers something non oil based out of which I’ve used:-

  • Elianto Eye makeup remover – decent and mild
  • Kanebo Eye makeup remover – mild and does its job well
  • L’Oreal Eye and Lip makeup remover – the 2 toned blue one that you have to shake before use. Very mild and takes off eye makeup well
  • Neutrogena Deep Clean lotion makeup remover – Non oily lotion makeup remover that takes everything off cleanly but can sting the eyes
  • Clarins Cream makeup remover – Cleans the skin but gave me clogged pores if I use it too often

I know many readers are proponents of cleansing oil as I am too. However since Shyra prefers a non-cleansing oil makeup remover, do share your non-cleansing oil choices k?

What are your recommendations for:-

  • eye cream
  • face and eye makeup remover

Stay beautiful,

Paris B

For dark eye circles, the only eye cream that worked for me is the Lierac Diopticerne. It’s available on Strawberrynet for $28.50! 🙂

As for eye makeup remover, i personally like the Loreal one Paris mentioned. The Maybelline one is quite similar to this one too! 🙂

Eye makeup remover, nothing beats Lancome’s Bi-facil but I like LOreal’s eye makeup remover too for drugstore options. These days, I use Shu Uemura cleansing oil. One step removes every darn thing 🙂

Dark circles: I swear by 2 eyecreams. Day: Total eye care spf15 by dermalogica and dior capture totale r60/80. I’m not sure if this has been replaced by the one recommended by Paris.

For eye makeup remover, I am using bodyshop calamine eye makeup remover, it does sting a bit if used too much.

For eye cream, I am using Yves Rocher Inositol Vegetal, main ingredient green rice, is non-oily, does smoothen the eye area. As for puffiness, it does its job but not too significant, maybe due to my late nights and drinking water b4 bed time……;-p

    Happy weekend!

Shyra, for non-oil MU remover, you might want to try kawaii TOKYO Melting Dew, from its Makeup Dissolver Series. I am so loving it despite my HG being Laneige Cleansing Oil.

Melting Dew totally doesn’t stings the eyes at all. In fact, it is viscous such that it doesn’t even flows, so it doesn’t seeps into the eyes or mouth (I hate tasting cleansers and stuff. lol).

Remover is super effective. In fact, I think slightly more effective than my Cleansing Oil. It literally dissolves your makeup. I just do my eyes once, my face once, everything is gone. I double cleanse though.

However, it does not leaves my face as soft and smooth as Laneige does. Laneige actually gives me the supple feel even after I double cleanse, such that I feel I don’t need to put moisturizer. (That’s why it’s amazing for a cleansing oil.)

I guess that doesn’t matters, because you will be putting on moisturizer anyway. =)

I have dehydrated skin, but I don’t find Melting Dew drying at all.

Sorry for the very long comment. I have a review on this actually.

    My Choice of eye Cream:

Dark Circle problem: Babor SENSATIONAL EYES CREAM
This product can stimulate the microcirculation and really help to minimise my dark circle.

For hydraytion / repair and also dry lines: H2o+ Night Oasis™ Overnight Eye Complex
Imagine eye version of the ever best selling product, 8glasses. Love this product as it really give me smoother skin ard the eyes the next morning!

Eye Make Up remover: I am using Cleansing Oil (Babor HY – OL) for my cleaning, this product is gentle enough for eyes area as well. It can even take care of the toughest waterproof make up as well, so I do not use a seperate product for eyes.

    Hoep this help.

Non oily MU, I recommended Clinelle Eye & Makeup remover.IIt is available in most drugstores and even in departmental store, therefore it is not that pricey. It does not sting your eyes as their products are known as non alcoholic contents. However, base on experience, noted the non oily MU does not remove makeup efficiently, especially stubborn makeup. Personally I still Clinnelle MU remover for normal eye makeups. To be more efficient use the swab cotton buds and gently remove the makeups.

I think maybelline eye & lip makeup remover and H2o ones are great. Both remove quite well 🙂

    Hi Paris and Shyra,
For eye cream: Dior ‘Capture Totale’ Instant Rescue Eye Treatment
It helps to corrects all visible signs of aging while dramatically reducing the appearance of dark circles and puffiness. The innovative palladium applicator gently massages and cools the skin to instantly awaken the eye area.

For Eye Make Up remover: Vichy Purete Thermale Demaquillant Integral One Step Cleanser 3 in1
I am using this as it act as a cleasing milk, toning lotion and eye make-up remover. Leave my skin soft and supple.

i bought the eye make up remover from YSL when they had the 50% discount recently and i feel that it does what it claims quite efficiently. i do not use waterproof mascara but i do use bobbi brown’s liquid eye-liner that is known to be pretty tough to cleanse and everything came off really easy while the eyes do not sting one bit.

as for eye cream, i’ve always loved uncircle by estee lauder but it has long been discontinued. nothing else worked although i’ve tried many.

I’ve not tried many before, but I find Nivea’s Extra Gentle Eye Make-up Remover to work quite well. Not so well for mascara (need to leave the cotton pad on for longer) but great for everything else.

Hehe, I actually use it to remove all my makeup when I’m in a hurry or too lazy to use cream cleansers. 😛

I second the 2-toned L’Oreal Eye and Lip makeup remover

    Cheap and does the job.

I also like Fancl’s mild cleansing oil. Cleans everything off!

    Eye Cream –
I’m in search for a new eye cream myself ^^;; But I’ve tried the Kanebo Sensai Eye countour balm and it was like happy drugs for my eyes. All puffs and bags and shadows were instantly reduced and on most days gone before I get to the office. Sits well under make up, doesn’t make your eyelids oily or ball up under your foundation or cream eye shadows. I’m currently trying out Kevin Beautymaker’s eye serums at the moment because I wanted something that was lighter. Might go back to Sensai if this doesn’t work out as well.

    Eye Makeup Remover –
I personally feel that the 2 toned type makeup removers that you have to shake are still oil based, so they might not quite meat Shyra’s criteria ( like Sasa’s Cyber Colors one personally). You can patch test LOreal De-maq Expert Elixir Concentrated Gel Make-Up Remover at their counters first to see if it agrees with you. That one is fabulous for the toughest of makeups and japanese mascaras that I have. Regular eyeshadows can be removed with cleansing Milks like Paul and Joe (Parkson Pavillion)’s Light Cleansing Milk. This is a gel based cleanser. Then you can pick up the Kissme Heroine Make Mascara remover( from Sasa) for mascara. Also gel but in a mascara tube ^_^

    wow… that’s long ^^;;

I second the Paul & Joe Light Cleansing Milk! Its a treat to use at a day’s end. Smells good and so theraputic!

I favour the Lancome’s Bi-facil to remove eye makeup. Clinique’s Take the Day Off is also great, however, its very very oily.

Shyra, if you want to avoid oil in eye makeup remover, maybe you can consider to use non waterproof eye makeup. They are easier to remover. From personal experience, removers with oil in them can remove waterproof makeup better.

However, I would use a good facial cleanser that can remove all oily residue of the makeup remover. In addition, I use a cleansing toner to make sure my face is really clean.

I’m also still on the hunt for a good eye cream, but on the make up remover front, I’m trying out Simple eye make-up remover, which also takes off waterproof mascara. Been working out pretty well for me so far, and yes, I use it to take off the rest of my make-up too!

Hi Paris. Wow! I cant believe that you actually help me this way, thanks dear! 🙂 And thanks for all of your recommendations..I’ve bought eye cream and make up remover (for face and eye) both from Chanel. As for the eye make up remover I bought the Creamy cleansing Milk Comfort- it works well the remover make up from your face and eyes too. However if you are using the waterproof eye make up you have to take extra time to let all the make up to be removed from your eyes. I also have the chamomile eye make up remover from the Body Shop but I dont quite like the scent and I personally think that when I use it, its quite hard to remove the waterproof eye make up.

For eye cream I bought the Beaute initiale eye (energizing multi-protection eye gel) which claims on these: smoothes and corrects all signs of fatigue: dark circles, puffiness and fine lines. For the time being I can see the minimal results on the puffiness but still no results on dark circles and fine lines but I know these takes time, especially in lightening the dark circles..will wait for a couple more weeks to see the results..

Thanks again Paris and other readers for all your recommendations. Perhaps If the products that I’m currently using do not show good results, I might change to any of the products recommended here. Thanks again! 🙂

For the base I think the key is the Nars setting powder which is basically a silica powder. Many brands have similar white powder for setting. I did this same look yesterday and it barely budged/faded by evening. Only lipstick needed a little topping up 😊

And this is about all the makeup I can handle these days 😂 no eye makeup cos I can’t be arsed 🤪

Posting for posterity because I like this photo 😆 Also hello! 😜

It’s interesting that when I meet people they always ask me “Are you still blogging?” which tells me they don’t read my blog anymore (cos if they did they’d know I am lol! Weekly generally, but still writing) Yet I don’t blame them because a lot of social credit is placed on one’s Instagram presence. This I fear, is an area I am lacking. I pop in every now and then, share stories that are totally unrelated to what people follow me for, then wonder why they unfollow lol! Other times, spider webs gather in the corners of my unused account. I don’t blame them. Not everyone wants to know what my dogs are up to 😜

Anyway I make no apologies. It’s ok if you follow. It’s ok if you don’t. It’s ok if you’re interested in stuff I do. It’s ok if you’re not. Life goes on for both you and I and ultimately, we just both want it to be happy. So do what makes you happy 😊 I’ll still share my beauty finds and I still blog once a week. I may share what I’m up to from time to time, or I may not. I can tell you that I’m keeping busy and that I have a lot on my plate, none of it glamorous unlike that of most content creators/influencers. It’s too boring for most for me to share here so I’ll just share the good bits - as Instagram intended 😂

But if you want to find me, you’ll know how 😊

Yes I know many of you are terrified of lizards 🦎🫣

But I liked this sunscreen - for the body. Even though it left a white cast. Even though it is hard to remove. It kept my arms protected through a weekend of brutal sun exposure and I survived without burning! ✌🏻
