I am in dire need of undereye concealing this morning. I was at the Manchester United vs Malaysia re-match last night and got home really late! Anyone who had seen me would have found it strange – I don’t watch football as a rule and I’m a fan of neither team (so don’t come after me Chelsea/Liverpool/Arsenal fans!)! Still it was great fun sitting in a sea of red and standing out conspicuously in white! Haha… I’m neutral 😀
Reader Vivian also left a comment on a previous post about flawless makeup on the very topic of undereye concealers:-
Hi ParisB, nice painting
I’m still searching for a concealer which work for me, I have quite severe dark eye circle/eye bag. Can you recommend or tell which is the best concealer so far with full coverage?
Thanks parisb.
Undereye Concealer is something I’ve learnt that I can’t live without. I don’t have chronic dark circles under my eyes but I have a bad habit of reading till late so I wake up with shadows under my eyes. Undereye concealer makes me look more awake – and perhaps inspires confidence in others too if you have to meet people at work! Haha…
I presently have 4 under eye concealers in rotation and I think they are all pretty decent stuff so it was a good idea to showcase them all together. They are listed in order of coverage.
Lancome Effacernes Long Lasting Softening Concealer SPF12
A recent discovery and a new love. I picked it up during the last L’oreal warehouse sale for RM60 which I thought was pretty pricey at the time. It usually retails for RM121 for 15ml. The tube is short and squat and you only need very little.
I use Beige Pastel the lightest shade which has very slight pink tones. Its a little thick in texture so what I do is squeeze out a tiny drop on the back of my hand and warm it up with my fingers, then pat it on the under eye area. I find that it covers up my shadows nicely and evenly, does not sink into any lines and once dusted with a touch of loose powder lasts me the whole day and then some! It dries to a slightly matte powdery finish which I like. If you can find a color match in this line, its worth taking a look. 15ml will last me… well… forever! LOL… I use this for days when I have visible dark circles because it works to cover it up nicely leaving me looking pretty much flawless! This is already a staple in my makeup kit. Needless to say, this one was the first thing I reached for this morning!
I Nuovi Undercover Concealer
Many readers seemed to have picked up on my rave on the I Nuovi Undercover Concealer in an earlier post. Its good, make no mistake! 🙂 The texture is slightly more liquid so I can take it straight off the tube and onto my under eye area without having it look cakey. Its also got a little shimmer in it that brightens up the eye area. Sometimes we don’t need thick concealers when dealing with very dark circles because something slightly lighter that reflects light can help too.
The colour I have is 2Y which is one of the lightest and it has a little pink tone. It suits me though. There are other colour shades in the collection which I recommend you to check out in person before buying. There is minimal fading for me throughout the day and I use this for days when I have lighter circles because it just works better then.
Definite Makeup Artistes Secret Concealer
I have this one in #1, the lightest shade. It comes in 2 shades only for now and coverage is pretty good. However, the colour tone is yellow which scared me initially. The texture is quite thick, slightly less so than the Lancome Effercernes so I use it the same way – dab a dot on the back of my hand, warm it up and dab it on.
Applied lightly, the yellow tones aren’t as obvious though I can’t layer it on or I’d look like a reverse panda – yellow circles instead of dark circles! So, if you have yellow undertones to your skin and have trouble finding an under eye concealer that doesn’t look pink or white on you, you might want to consider this one. Coverage is decent and there is no light reflecting. It lasts though.
Make Up For Ever Lift Concealer
I previously reviewed this one and I’m still not as happy with this as I should be – its the same tube btw. I was using this concealer for a while as I’d bought it and did not have other options. The colour is a good match for me but the coverage is a little thin, I feel.
There is some light reflecting qualities and it works for light circles – if you have very dark circles, this one won’t work very well. Texture is light and I can pat it straight onto my under eye area without it caking or settling. It doesn’t last as long as the others though. My first and least favourite under eye concealer for now.
Some other brands I’ve tried for concealer
I’d also tried Benefit Boi-ing #2 before this. I found it a little thick for my under eye area and the colour was not quite a match being just a shade too dark. However if you have a color match then its worth a shot. I haven’t tried YSL Touche Eclat though I really want to just to say I have LOL…
For seriously full coverage, thus far its Make Up For Ever Full Cover concealer for me. Even if I find that its not been doing a very good job with coverage lately, its still the best I’ve tried for now. I use it only for facial blemishes as I find it too thick for the under eye area. Some reviews I’ve come across online do report using it on dark undereye circles with great success so my suggestion is to try it out and see.
I hope this has been of some help if you are in the market for an undereye concealer. Do you use undereye concealer? What’s your favourite? Was anyone else crazy enough to go to the game yesterday?! 😀
Stay beautiful,
Paris B

I’ve never tried any of those brands before – good read, btw. Bit out of reach for me personally, but never say never 😛
Boi-ing #2 doesn’t look right on me also, so that’s one product out for me.
I don’t really like getting separate concealers for under eye and facial blemishes if I can help it – too much to do.
I like Origins’ Quick, Hide! concealer as it’s not too thin – it’s just too bad that Origins Malaysia has stopped selling its cosmetics. Sigh. (I’m on my last tube, making it last as long as I can :P)
So atm am using Skin Food’s Peach Sake Perfect Concealer for my entire face and (sometimes) what’s left of Stila’s cover up stick. But that’s not going to stop me from looking for the “perfect” concealer.

Hi Synical
About using separate concealers – I’m presently concealing mostly pigmentation as the skin seems to be behaving 🙂 So blemish concealer is just too thick for my undereye hence using 2 concealers. Its mostly a matter of choice. I’d read a previous commentator mention Skin Food has a good concealer – might check it out since its affordable 🙂

Wow, I should check out MUFE Full Cover…it sounds like a good one. For dark circles…I usually use Bobbi Brown’s corrector as it really hides my dark circles.

Hi Melian22
Full Cover is good but don’t get your hopes too high and you’ll be alright 🙂

Hi, first time leaving a comment here. ^^
I have the YSL Touche Eclat, it’s better to be use as a highlighter, if you have very dark circles, it won’t work that well, as it’s quit light, it can’t cover the dark circles but only reflects the lights on that area. I use them on the nose, it’s great.
I am currently using RMK concealer, it’s good too, but also need warming up as it’s quite thick, but covers well and it has little light reflect too, pair it with the concealer settling powder.
I am also using the benefit erase paste, it’s far better then boing. boing is more drying, erase paste also apply better after warming, it won’t settle into fine lines, and can cover well, I usually dust some of the powder flage over it, it helps the eye bags too, coz of the reflection.

Hi Ling
Welcome! I hope this won’t be your last 😉 I found Erase Paste too pink for me, but you’re another one making me want Touche Eclat!

Hi Paris B…
I have been using Linda Seidel’s natural cover for many years now and I can’t live without it. It’s perfect for me because I like the undereye area to look similar colour as the rest of my face 🙂
Perhaps you could try it out as well? 🙂
Cheers

me likey the Multi Tasking concealer from EDM, does the job well 🙂
but a little dry, so i use it on top of Inuovi which fades a little on me and maybe even oxidize a little 🙁
with the powder concealer, it sets it pretty well 🙂

I just bought the I Nuovi one today after reading your review. Was having an ok dark eye circle day so it covered pretty well.
That Boi-ing did nothing for me. I had high hopes. Will check out the Erase paste during their workshop probably
Now i too feel like trying out Touche Eclat! Gosh. How much is it that you don’t wanna risk trying it PB?
ParisB says
Hey Abby
Touche Eclat is RM133 here. Not super expensive-lah but its just that I already have many undereye concealers and only 2 eyes! LOL… But soon soon…I’ll get it I’m sure 😛

i don’t have very bad dark circles or eye bags but the one concealer that has given me all the coverage that i need would be Benefit’s Erase Paste. It’s slightly heavier than Boi- ing BUT it has brightening effects. Therefore it helps eliminate the darkness underneath the eyes. It conceals redness around the nose and blemishes perfectly well too! 🙂 of course it helps to have a good powdered foundation, compact powder or loose powder to set the concealer and make it look less visible. I’m currently using Benefit’s Hello Flawless powdered foundation too, which works pretty well with Erase Paste but can appear cakey is heavily applied.
Hello Flawless, true to its name provides a flawless finish but that’s due to its limited shades so i had to settle for the one nearest to my tone. Same goes for Erase Paste. But Benefit has now introduced more shades to their Hello Flawless collection! when i bought it, there were just 3 🙁 but it’s all good now cos i’m using another mineral powder foundation to counter the bright concealing effects of Erase Paste. Lengthy comment haha sorry!

my HG of concealer used to be bobbi brown’s creamy concealer, but the moment i laid eyes on YSL’s touche eclat, there’s no turning back! it works as both concealer and face brightener and i seriously love it so much! it buys me some years off my face. i highly recommend it 🙂 though i really want to try laura mercier’s concealer too (tho i heard it only works well if you use it together with eye cream:)).
so yes it’s touche eclat for me 🙂

hi Paris B!
i wanna ask , what is the best concealer for scars?
not acne scars..more like..surgery scars..
thanks!^^
ParisB says
The best concealer I’ve tried for full coverage is Make Up For Ever Full Cover. I’ve reviewed it here on my blog (I think) it works well to cover and I’ve read it can even cover tattoos so it should work on surgery scars too.

Try Make Up For Ever Full Cover. Its the best out there for full coverage that does not budge, for me.
