My first time experience with false eyelashes!

November 11, 2008 Paris B 29 Comments

I have never ever used false eyelashes before.

Never.

Until recently, that is. I used to admire girls with lovely long lush lashes curling upwards into infinity and I’d be so jealous. Then, they’ll laugh and tell me its false eyelashes and I’m even more jealous that they can put it on themselves without gluing their eyes shut! I know that’s what will happen to me if I tried. 😉

Anyway, I recently had the opportunity to try on a pair of Shu Uemura false eyelashes from the Viktor + Rolf collection. Shu Uemura! The Louis Vuitton of false eyelashes!

I sat in the chair, full of trepedition as the girl carefully measured out the falsies and trimmed off the excess to match the size of my eyes. Then, she carefully applied glue to the edge and pressed it lightly against my eyelid. Carefully, I blinked and stared at myself in the mirror.

This is what looked back at me:-

Shu Uemura Retro Eye lashes
  • Save

I was thrown! I’d never seen my lashes look so long and lush before. Best of all, the falsies I chose had these criss-cross lashes that gave the impression of fuller lashes. I was wearing one called the Retro Graphic (RM65) where there is a eye line accent in alternating black and white triangles that can be incorporated into makeup designs. The patten is supposed to be like an eyeliner but my crease is so deep that when I open my eyes, nothing much of the white can be seen so it all looks quite natural until I blink.

I found the edge of the falsies poked into my eye a little – it might be due to application or it might just be me being unused to wearing falsies. Either way, I loved the look and took the opportunity to flutter my new long lashes at anyone I happened to see 😀

When I got home, I carefully peeled off the false eyelashes and kept them in the case. The Shu Uemura girl told me they would last for up to 40 wears with careful use so now I’m going to purchase a tube of eyelash glue and experiment with putting them on myself. I just hope I don’t end up gluing my eyes shut! 😛

If anyone has tips to avoid gluing your eyes shut when trying to wear false eyelashes, feel free to leave a comment below!

    LOL @ flutter eyelashes bit

I love falsies too but can never get the hang of gluing them on myself. I’m just thinking.. would dabbing vaseline on your lower eyelids before you try gluing on the lashes help you NOT glue your eyelids together? I mean.. vaseline is what I’ve always used if I’m trying not to glue two things together. Give it a go and see.

lol don’t worry you won’t glue your eyes together 🙂 just check out a couple of falsies tutorials on youtube and you’ll be fine!

i love the look of falsies but i’m getting so lazy to use them regularly…but they do work better than any mascara.

Not to put too much glue, then glue them in the “band” only then wait for it to be tacky, then I usually use my tweezers in putting them close to my lashes, I have NEVER glued anyone’s eyes..thank goodness..lol the first few tries in the past, I made someone cried though.but it’s nothing really bad LOL

@Cheesey Poo : I reckon vaseline will make me cry but thanks for the suggestion.

@blu3: Haha… its just a paranoia I have. I’ll experiment and see how it goes.

@tine: I have no idea too! I grilled the SA but nothing beats having to put it on yourself.

@Nikki : I’ll try it myself soon and report back! Thanks for the tips 🙂

@jojoba: Thanks! I don’t plan to use falsies regularly. Too much hassle. Are those Korean falsies adhesive ready? That might explain the lack of glue required.

i just love fake eyelashes….it makes your eyes mesmerizing….usually i put the glue on the lash line then carefully stick it to my lash line….but i have to put it for couple of time on the day… ;p but u shouldn’t worry coz the glue is really fast dry up so u don’t have to worry that your eyes glued together…

**but Someone told me that i shouldn’t wear coz later on your wedding u won’t be pretty on that day! what the hell!!!

@PinkD : Gosh! That’s the first time I’ve heard that about the wedding. I’m sure there’s no truth in it whatsoever because you can wear falsies on your wedding day too!

PinkD’s friend was meaning if you look pretty everyday with falsies on, you couldn’t be any prettier. Hahhah…i think a professionally bridal look will still be better than your everyday look i suppose.

Hey, PB! I was wondering if you know Sasa is selling the korean made false lashes, PROLASH from INUOVI cosmetics. Recently i purchased the natural lash number 04 & 06. Check them out cuz they are just RM20 each. I had my first trial at MAC & it was unpleasant due to the hassle of cutting to my own measurement & it cudn’t be more natural looking for it’s too long for me. So then, i tried asian low end lash. It turns out gorgeous on me! I would say Prolash 06 is the most natural of all the lashes i’ve tried. I’d even stocked up a dozen of 06 & 04…lol

Oh PB, i must add that prolash doesn’t need to cut off the edges as it’s the perfect measurement for any asian eyes & it’s so easy to put them on… real easy for an amateur like me!

@Connie : LOL… as it was my first time, I was quite afraid it would come off immediately!

@smiley: I don’t plan to wear falsies on a regular basis (it really looks like too much work) but if I do I’ll check out the prolash that you recommend. Maybe it’ll change my mind 🙂

I think your left eye’s falsies is a little too long? Or maybe because it is because of the picture angle. 😛 I like the design of the falsies and they look natural on you too.

Oooh those lashes look very natural and sexy! I love falsies too, but my natural lashes are problem enough already- they’re incredibly long, but they droop so if I want them to curl it takes quite some time 🙁

BTW there are One Touch And Go falsies from Shins… or was it Sasa, that doesn’t need the application of messy glue. They’re like RM 15 a pair? Don’t really remember XD

Try Eye Putti glue from the brand Cecil. You can get it from Sasa. It turns transparent as it dry, so that you can draw eyeliner before putting on the lashes. It is pretty long lasting too! I had falsies on for about 9 hours few days ago, and it was still intact! 🙂

It was bad enough me learning how to put on contacts into my eyes… I think if I need to learn how to put on falsies… no more time in the mornings! LOL.

I’ll do what PinkD’s friend recommended… save it for the wedding day. Hurhurhur. 😛

    p.s. You look fab though!

OMG, that looks so awesome on you!
I love falsies, had a bit of experience with them when I did some salsa performance in the past.

The trick to applying the glue:
Apply a line of glue on a piece of clean paper.
Let the glue dry out for half a second (this makes it more tacky).
Then dab the edge of your falsies on the glue surface, and stick em on your eyes as close to the lash line as possible.

@Sue : I reckon its the angle coz the girl who was doing it was the pro 😉

@Akiki: Just practice a lot before trying to go public with them!
