My New Adorable Crochet Shawls

November 16, 2008 Paris B 17 Comments

Previously, I wrote about Adorkable Crochet, an etsy store that I discovered one day. The owner, Rebecca crochets all the shawls and ponchos in her store by hand and there was something about her designs that grabbed my attention. It doesn’t help that she and her sister model the shawls so prettily.

I ended up getting 2 shawls from Adorkable Crochet last month as part of my birthday present to myself.

Crochet shawls

The brown one is the Triangle Perla shawl ($40). So called because it has metallic threads running through the yarn that gives the shawl a nice shine. It is a large triangle shape that comes all the way down to my knees at the back! I am only 5′ 2″ so that might explain why it is so long on me. It is very light and airy so it is perfect for us here in the tropics if you know you will be in an air conditioned environment. It is airy yet keeps the edge of the chill off. I like that it has a slightly dressy feel to it so I can even wear it for dinners with a dress if I want to. Best of all, it scrunches up into a small little package that doesn’t take up any space at all in a bag!

The other one I got was a light purple mohair shawl ($20). The reason I got it was because I loved how it looked on Rebecca’s sister, her model. It comes with a large flower pin that holds the shawl closed in any way you choose. Again, it was rather long on me because I’m short. It being made of mohair, the shawl is super duper soft. It is so soft, I could scrunch it up into a pillow and sleep on it! It is also very warm. I would probably reserve it for trips to Genting Highlands or somewhere chilly or maybe use it when I travel because planes and airports or long distance road trips can get chilly.

Shipping was reasonable and Rebecca doesn’t overcharge shipping costs. She even refunded me $1 because it was over the actual shipping! Now, that’s service for you. Each shawl came packaged in lovely tissue paper and tied with a yarn ribbon and attached with the name of the shawl on a gift-tag. I love these little touches that make shopping online so much fun. It took about 2 weeks to get to me here in Malaysia from USA which is the average shipping time.

I love these 2 shawls – they make a nice change from the pashmina wraps or solid wraps that everyone else is wearing 🙂 Do you like wearing shawls?

Yes, not anyone can wear shawls, I love those knitted cardigans that were all rage some time ago, but its makes me look fat. Sigh…not everyone can afford to look classy all the time 😉

@Reese: Oh I tried those cardigans too and like you, I thought I looked fat in them. Worse if they are the cropped version.

I’m not so keen on crochet stuff. But it depends on how it’s being wores. Yeah, can be bohemian chic. The blue one is nice with the flower. I think a shorter version will be nice too.

*echoes beetrice* I remember seeing the brown one on you…

Nice! I like the purply/light blue one… the flower is a little something special! I don’t think I’ve seen crochet flowers like that before.

I love shawls- they actually make me look quite classy! Once I had a simple beach dress on and threw on a shawl (When I went shopping, and it was cold) and it looked quite pretty actually.

I also love those little personal touches you get when you order from those little online stores 😀 Not to mention their service is always great too!

The brown one looks really classy on you!

Thanks for introducing the site. I’ve finally managed to find so really nice knitted scarves to wear in those non-freezing winter countries!!

You look great! I love any kind of scarfs, shawls, pashminas etc cos it’s a good accessory as well as complementary to reduce the chill in winter 🙂

@beetrice : Yep! Nothing looks as vintage as grans! 🙂

@Sesame: I reckon short would be nice but I’m only afraid of looking dumpy. At least if its long it give the illusion of length hehe…

@rinnah: The purple one is wonderful but so warm!

@jojoba : Me too! I just need a place to wear it to hehe…

@Stephanie: I think they can dress up an outfit too and I guess a lot depends on how you carry it. After all its pretty much like wearing a pashmina 🙂

    @Julie: Thank you!

@Annie : Thank you! I was hoping so as I plan to use it more often than the purple. Glad you managed to pick something nice up too! I’ve been tempted by the scarves but its crazy to wear them here.

@Devi: Thanks! And yes, it not only looks good, its functional comfort!
