Weekend Thoughts: Where do I find nice oversized clutches?

April 26, 2008 Paris B 7 Comments

I’ve been obsessed with the idea of having an oversized clutch ever since I watched the controversial cult movie “Lust Caution“. I found the movie plodding mainly due to my poor grasp of Mandarin and because the subtitling on my copy of the DVD was terrible!

But that did not detract from the visual feast of vintage fashion that was ever present throughout the movie. I was most taken in by the oversized clutches that the main actress played by Tang Wei carried throughout the film.

They looked so classic and elegant and because they are large, they look like the could fit a ton of stuff in there. She ably demonstrated this in one scene when she was throwing all her cosmetics and little things into her clutch. I love the idea!

I’ve been looking locally for a nice and affordable large or oversized clutch since then but to no avail. Some of the clutches I see here have a cheap feel to the vinyl or patent leather. Does anyone know where I can find a nice leather or canvas oversized clutch whether in Malaysia or an online store that ships internationally?

Stay beautiful,

Ermm … it looks classy and sophisticated but I am not sure it it’s very convenient for me (clumsy) due to the lack of a strap, for instance it might drop off when I am shopping or walking around, or at a party where you stand the whole time, it’s definitely not convenient if you have kids to manage. But I think this is great for dinner or hi tea functions. But since I am ‘smaller’ than most ppl I guess I might opt for a not-so-oversized clutch 😛

    Monstro: You and I both!

Shortcake: No it certainly isn’t as practical as a bag with straps but I think it looks so elegant! I need an oversized one for all the junk I carry around every day! lol…

I was at Takashimaya last night and they had the usual sales going on at the concourse and I spotted a nice black oversize clutch by Nine West. So awesome but I didn’t buy…now I kinda regret it coz it seriously can put in loads of stuffs. It retailed around RM120 after discount. Awesomely good condition summore. Sigh…why on earth didn’t I buy it. Damn regret now.

S-Kay: Oh darn! Why didn’t you get it! But thanks for the tip, will look into Nine West (even if I find their stuff overpriced here)

Andie: Any ideas where to find nice ones? And yes, next time you’re in town, give me a holler!

i used to stock those reasonably price croc skin inspired patent (which I find it classy ) from Goss:p, Baci…. and recently got one from Orioli (accessories shop)

As for those nice soft leather or suede sort, no choice but to splurge …. Topshop carries nice one at time… 9west…yeah….. or at rare time Flea market..
