New Maybelline Eye Studio Eyeshadow Quads

April 17, 2008 Paris B 8 Comments

I spotted this new Maybelline display stand some time last week. I have a confession. The only time I read women’s magazines is when I’m at my hairdresser so that means I’m usually a month late with any updates! That said, this new Maybelline Eye Studio eyeshadow palette might already be in the mags, so it might not be “new” to most, but its new to me.

I’m never one for Maybelline eyeshadows. I find their pigment lacking and the texture hard. Maybelline may do lovely cheap lipsticks and mascara but they lose out dramatically in the eyeshadow department in my eyes (no pun intended!)  🙂

There are 9 quads available in different colour combinations. I cannot find any website with the information on these quads in English. So here’s a link to the China Maybelline website. I noticed from the Taiwan website that there are Eye Studio singles too so maybe these are going to replace the current Maybelline eyeshadows.

There is a difference between the Eye Studio in the website and in real life. The one online looks faceted whereas the one I saw was flat.  Regrettably, this Maybelline Eye Studio eyeshadow quad lives up to the usual Maybelline eyeshadow standard.

I swiped a couple of the testers and found that the texture was hard. L’oreal has managed to get their Loreal Color Appeal quads to feel soft with nice colour payoff and since Maybelline is under the same umbrella company, I cannot imagine why they can’t transfer that technology over to Maybelline.

Anyway, there were some pretty colour combinations in the Maybelline Eye Studio quads. I only managed to sneak pictures of the tamer colours but there was a really nice blue-silver grey quad that caught my attention. Colourwise, the pigment is rather lacking. If you really rub on the eyeshadow with your finger or a sponge applicator, you would get a decent colour pay off. However, the colours tended towards being matte and sheer and a little chalky. Pity really. The colours showed promise.

To be honest, they don’t apply anything like what they portray on the model in the picture. There isn’t enough shimmer in the product to create that metallic look.

The Maybelline Eye Studio quads are retailing at a special price of RM24.88 at Guardian Pharmacies but I’m not sure when it’ll be until. Retail price is RM29.90. Cheaper than L’oreal Color Appeal quads but I’d cough up the additional RM7 and go for L’oreal in a pinch. I think its just better overall.

I tried it on as well as the packaging is nice compared to their old shadows packaging. But I can’t like them, they are indeed really hard and not pigmented enough. So I’m not going to buy them or even look at them again..sorry maybelline, i tried 😀

Stella: Yes I get what you mean about it not “sticking”. Too bad the texture is so crap!

    Monstro: Pity huh?

Nikki: I cannot understand why it has to be so hard and hard to use. Maybelline is cheapish but it doesn’t have to be crap.

I know, I bought their TRIO pastel colored e/s (blue, yellow, green) , it wasn’t great, at least it’s useable. This one, I can’t even get the color payoff even after 4-5 applications! I hope they do something to make this better. They’re packaging did improve though..but quality didn’t 🙁

never check their eyeshadow, but i’m currently using their mascara.
    volume express.
it’s really good that i just apply one layer and the result satisfied me.
    🙂
