My Hermes dream bag

April 4, 2008 Paris B 12 Comments

Look what I spotted at the M boutique at The Gardens (run by the Melium group).

A Birkin bag!

The metallic green one on the far right is a real beaut. However, I found it heavy, the edges were a bit rough, and the clasp and flap were a real pain to do up and undo. It also cost upwards of RM2,500. The whole bag is leather (including the lining) which might explain the price, but still… I did not think it worth it. The sales assistant told me it was an Hermes. Really? If it is, I think I’m quite disappointed because I did not expect it to look and feel this way. Besides, since when was an Hermes Birkin bag so “cheap”?

The Birkin bag is a signature Hermes bag which I have been eyeing for a long long time. Last I knew they were RM40k a bag (or thereabouts) and a couple of years wait list to boot. When did Hermes drop their prices this drastically? Does anyone know?

Anyway, at RM40k for a bag from an Hermes boutique, I think I’ll be putting that money towards a car 😉

Still, a girl can dream can’t she?

I’m away for the weekend so do excuse me if I do not respond to your comments or enquiries in the interim. I’m off to explore what Singapore has to offer but as its a working trip, its hard to say if I’ll have time to do any shopping!

UPDATE: I found out that these bags are not Hermes but M Concept. I have no idea what M Concept is but I think its an in house brand of the Melium Group. So sorry to disappoint all but I knew it was too good to be true for Hermes to be this “cheap”! 🙂

Stay beautiful,

Why there are so many of them? Kinda take away the special attribute huh. A bag of that calibre deserves its own window display, for G’s sake.

    *GASP*

This is sacrilegious! How can they sell the Birkin at only RM2500?! That’s utterly ridiculous, that bag’s like THE bag. THE bag of all bags. I wanted it so much ever since it came out years ago when I was in the UK, that I bought myself a leather replica from Jasper Conran (of Debenhams) for 60 quid. And I was only a student then :p

Looks like an Hermes, but the price does not justify. Methinks the sales assistant was just pulling your leg?

Kimberlycun:Fully agree! If you are around, check with them and see if I misheard.

    Andie: You said it!

Fashionasia: Oh yes! Definitely out of my league

Tine: I sincerely hope he was! But Hermes is also brought in by Melium. I wonder… 😛 Maybe this is the Budget Birkin. LOL… Still, its sacrilegious and I’m still looking for a nice lookalike somewhere.

There is no way a Birkin begins at RM2,500. From what I understand, the cheapest Birkin starts somewhere around US$7,500. If you venture into exotic leather versions (croc, ostrich), it goes up to US$40,000.

As for inexpensive lookalikes, what about the Mulberry Bayswater? 🙂 It’s also has a turnlock closure. Ralph Lauren’s Ricky bag resembles the Birkin, but costs a pretty penny too…

Shryh:You know, that’s exactly what I thought. No way Birkins are so “cheap”. I tried a Mulberry one – its heavy! And its still expensive though cheaper than an Hermes hehe…

hermes birkin bag cost US$16,000.00 – US$65,000.00 depending on the material so i myself don’t think they r genuine. My advise is get it from the hermes boutique if u like to own the ultimate bag of all bags.

@Harry: Thanks for the comment. They are not Hermes but by M Concept and yes I’d definitely get an Hermes from the boutique if I don’t save up for a car first 😉

Or you could buy a car and just to allot $200-300 for a high-quality and expensive looking replica bag. I bought mine from poshandclassy (com), but there are other cheap sellers of course. Their replicas are great and they have very meticulous catalog. You could choose the bag you like from them and order it from somewhere else if you want to and if you find their prices too expensive. But I think this is the cheapest you could buy a high-quality replica bag. And everyrhings is what it looks like! 🙂
