I first heard about Lumiere Mineral cosmetics after reading Vivawoman’s review on its kabuki. I may or may not review the Lumiere Minerals kabuki brush separately but believe everything she says. Its awesomely soft and applies well.
My review however is on its mineral foundation. I purchased the foundation as part of their specials set which came with 2 foundations and a kabuki brush. I got my foundations in the loose powder Flawless Foundation texture which promises this:
Unlike other mineral foundations that are chalky and heavy feeling Flawless is finely milled, soft & moisturizing. Formulated with squalane to create a creamy textured foundation that will almost melt into the skin to rehydrate and rejuvenate dry, lifeless skin. Flawless is a mica free matte but not flat foundation with a touch of glow.
I had not had very good experiences with mineral foundations in the past so I was wary. However, my concerns were quite unfounded because this mineral foundation is awesome!
I got my foundation in the shade Light Medium Neutral. I usually head for the lightest colour in any foundation but I read some reviews online that said that the colours in Lumiere run a little light so the advice was to go one shade deeper than you usually are. This colour is a perfect match for my skin tone. When applied, it looks like I’m not wearing any foundation at all, which is excellent!
I also got another shade in Light Golden because I wasn’t sure if being Asian I’d have a golden tone. However, this shade was too yellow for me so I’m not using it at all.
The texture of the foundation is soft and fine-milled. It comes in a tub with a sifter which is great. I pick it up with the kabuki brush, swirl it in the cover of the tub and then swipe it over my face. I don’t buff it in as some other mineral companies advise. I just sweep it on.
The coverage is medium. It doesn’t leave a mask-y look or feel to the face and it does even out colour. I find that using Light Medium Neutral leaves me face looking very fair so if you prefer something less fair, go up another shade. The colour matches the rest of my skin so its perfectly fine by me.
It doesn’t leave me oily nor does it dry out my skin. I use a light layer of the Lumiere Silk Powder over it though so I’m not sure if that’s helping any. I will be reviewing the silk powder separately soon.
The best part: NO BREAKOUTS! 🙂
In fact, this foundation is so awesome, I’ve stopped using my other foundations for a while, and that’s saying a lot!
Pros: Inexpensive, No breakouts, good colour match, easy to use
Cons: Found only online

Good to hear that it works for you. Mineral foundation is all the rage now. I, personally, am TOO MUCH OF A SLACKER to use anything *blush* I do, however, have a Bare Escentuals mineral foundation. I quite like it on the days I want something on my face 🙂
PB says: Actually not everyone needs foundation so no, you aren’t a slacker 🙂 Some people don’t like BE minerals I’m glad you do

BTW, Laura Mercier Mineral Foundation is out already!! I haven’t tried any MM before, so would love to try it out soon!
PB says: Cool! Do write about it after you’ve tried it

Hey, glad you like the brush too. I love it. Now my regular kabuki is so coarse. 🙁
I haven’t really given the foundation another try again cos the shade I got is wrong. The texture is good no doubt. I need to test again but really happy that it worked for you this time.
PB says: I know what you mean about the brush. Its awesome! And thanks for leading me to it!

This review makes me want to go order some Lumiere products now, but I’ll wait and try out my Everyday Minerals first. *grin*
PB says: For me, Lumiere beats EM hands down! Try it some day!

Hi, in terms of coverage and texture, how would this compare with T. Le Clerc’s loose powder? TQ
PB says: Its nothing like T. LeClerc because TLC is a loose powder whereas the Lumiere minerals is a foundation itself. Therefore, the coverage is better and there is more pigment in it. Its very fine milled and has sheer-medium coverage depending on how much you layer on. Awesome but only available online.

I use Physician Formula’s mineral liquid foundation and mineral loose powder. it’s more affordable than bare escentuals. however it doesn’t have spf in it.
Loreal’s bare naturale still has talc which is not naturale at all. so i don’t even bother buying.
PB says: We don’t get those here but I’m glad Lumiere ships internationally.
anne says
hey which of the foundations did you get, the liquid mineral or loose mineral?
Jen says
Just wanted to say actually talc is a mineral, and it is typically just as “natural” as the various items used in mineral makeup. Talc can actually be refined to a much more lux texture than the minerals generally used in mineral makeup.

I like the mineral make up makes my skin feel. I get dry patches on my cheeks and jaw line. But It always makes my face feel silky. I also mineral cosmetics because it takes so little, making it feel light.
