Every woman has different shaped eyes. Some have large eyes, some have small, some have round eyes, some have longer oriental eyes. Knowing how to do the right eye makeup for your eye shape helps you accentuate your eyes. You don’t have to change them – makeup should aim to accentuate and enhance what you already have, not change how you look.
Here are some tips for accentuating different eye shapes, as recommended by Her World magazine.
Large Eyes: Wear a darker shade on the lids and extend it to the crease. Then use a light shimmer under the brow to highlight the area.
Deep-set Eyes: A light colour on the lids and under the brow works wonders. Follow with a medium colour in the crease and emphasise the corners with more shadow.
Wide-set Eyes: Use darker colours on the inner corners of the eyes.
Hooded Eyes: Apply light colours on the lid, then use a darker colour from the centre of the lid to the outer corners and blend.
Round Eyes: Use a darker shade all around the eyelid and extend it to the outer corners for a more elongated look
Oriental Eyes: Highlight under the brow and use a light shadow on the inner half of the eyelid, with a darker shade on the outer half.
Small Eyes: Limit the use of eyeshadow and eye liner. Apply a light colour to the lids and a darker colour to the crease.
Personally, I don’t subscribe to the last one for small eyes. I think using eyeshadow and eyeliner works wonders for small eyes as it draws attention to the eyes, which is what you want to do.
These are just general guides, not must follows. Just do whatever works for you and so long as you look beautiful, who cares what rules you follow? 🙂

I saw it in some SASA catalogue that the current trend is to wear a very strong color with shimering effect for the lid under the crease and the current trendy color is green.
PB says: Thanks for the info. My favourite colour for eyes is green so I’m glad its a current trend

You know, that’s exactly what I wanted to say about the small eyes tips too. But good suggestions, overall. 🙂
PB says: Yeah I thought it odd to tell people to stay away from eyeshadow lol… the rest sound fine

i have small eyes too and usually i do my eye makeup using the oriental style plus i line my top line and half of my bottom line with black liner. hope i’m not doing anything wrong 🙂
PB says: Girl, you are never doing anything wrong so long as it works for you! I’m sure whatever you are doing works great so long as you think it does.

My sister has small eyes. She’s only 14. The other time during her lil musical show, I helped lined her eyes and it totally made a difference. Also used a solid colored eyeshadow (not those too light and too shimmery) to accentuate it. Can’t believe I’m using a 14 y.old as my dummy =P So I don’t agree that small eyed girls should stay away from eyeshadows and liners.
PB says: I agree that small eyes need liner. It draws attention to the eyes and enhances the looks. Whatever works I guess

I like to line the inner (upper and lower) corners of my eyes in silver or white. This kind of opens up my eyes, and makes them look a little more sparkly.
PB says: Oh I could never get the lining of the lower lid to work for me 🙁 I can do the light color on the inner upper lid but not on the lower lid else I just end up looking puffy eyed

I have huge green eyes. And my eyelids are small so I think I look stoned a lot. It’s so annoying.
People with small eyes are lucky.
