Pure Vitamin E Oil as a moisturiser is a recent re-discovery for me, as well as being a recommendation from a friend. I used to use it many years back to heal acne scars but along the way, it got forgotten.
I have been using it for slightly more than a week now, and the results have been amazing! I only use it at night because its terribly sticky, and the box recommends it be left on overnight. The oil is thick and clear and its hard to spread on the skin, and be careful of your hair, if you have long hair. It sticks. The box has suggested to warm it up and apply on moisturised skin, but I haven’t gotten round to trying that.
The next morning, my skin feels soft and moisturised. by then, most of the oil has been absorbed into the skin. I usually lay a towel on my pillow so the oil doesn’t stain it. The immediate result I noticed was the lightening of the lines around my mouth, what is known as “laugh lines”. I had quite prominent laugh lines, but after about a week, they are now barely noticable. The slightly deeper lines will take longer, but any fine lines I have seem to have evened themselves out a bit.
Vitamin E is supposed to make a good natural anti-oxidant for the skin, and its good for lightening scars, acne marks and fine lines. I have some old pitted acne scars which I am hoping this Vitamin E oil will help even out with time.
I don’t intend to use it everyday all over my face (its too sticky), but only twice a week. I’m not sure if this oil will be too much for those will oily skin so if you have oily skin or combination skin, you might want to be more careful when trying it in case it causes more pimples.
For application purposes, I go for the highest IU (International Unit) I can find, which is Colonial Dames Vitamin E Oil.
The highest they have is 35,000 IU. The stickiness and viscousity gets less the lower the IU. I like this one as it comes in a pump bottle which makes it easy to dispense and to control. This is 100% Alpha (Vitamin E) and there is no smell. This retails for RM59.90 at Guardian and some other pharmacies (but not Watsons). You only use a little so it will last a while.
The other brand I’ve tried before this is Organic Aid.
This one comes in a glass bottle without a dispenser. The highest IU I’ve seen is 28,000 IU and the Vitamin E is derived from wheatgerm. I used it a long time ago which I started but I opted not to go back to this brand as I did not like the open mouth of the bottle. The oil residue will collect around the mouth and it goes rancid so it smells bad even if the rest of the oil is still good. This one is cheaper at about RM39.90.
I have also seen Vitamin E oil by Fruit of the Earth and The Body Shop. I’ve never tried them so I will not comment on them.
Opinion seems to be divided if Vitamin E has any benefits for topical application, but while it works for me, I’ll keep on using it.
UPDATE: Try not to use it to often as it could possibly clog pores if you have oily skin. I use it only once a week but nightly on scars.

hi, would you know if Colonial Dames is available in Singapore? I understand Malaysia has it and it’s just across the causeway but it’s still not considered easily accessible! 🙂 x

ParisB, I wonder if you still use this anymore? Of late, I noticed that my laugh lines are becoming somewhat more pronounced. Or perhaps can you suggest any other products to reduce the laugh lines? Would love to hear from you! 🙂
ParisB says
I don’t use this anymore. I use various other products these days but one I’ve found very good recently is the Kiehls Line Diminishing concentrate. I think that’s the name. I have a review coming up soon.

Awesome! I know I can count on you! 😉

Hi ParisB,
I read this article about Colonial Vit E,Rose Hip etc and its kinda interesting..I have this one problem,I got a few chicken pox scars on my face and a few on body, the scars is kinda deep and the colour is pretty obvious compare to my skin colour.I got this scars 10 yrs ago during my childhood. So is there any better way to cure this?Is this Vit E really can help?I have read about laser therapy but its kinda painful..Can you help suggest?
Paris B says
Hi. Laser will remove marks or some scars quite quickly and vitamin E will help lighten scars but will take a very long time. If you’re diligent and are willing to wait months then you could try the vitamin E oil. Can’t guarantee it’ll work 100% either.

I LOVE vitamin E oil! I use it every night before bed. Why spend all of that money on facial creams when you can spend $10, reduce the appearance of fine lines, have a healthy glow to your face the next day and baby soft skin!

I have been using Garden of Eden’s “Rosa E Pigmentation Serum” or “Scar Serum (Vit E)”, and I’m so pleased with the results. They are oils for the face, so I use them at night instead of moisturizer.
I find that they work better than moisturizers. And not greasy at all… very quickly absorbed into the skin. My skin actually looks younger in the mornings.
Best of all, no pore clogging.
Available at Caring and other smaller pharmacies (I didn’t see this in Watsons or Guardian). Not expensive, about RM30-40 for 15ml (can’t remember exactly).

Although applying the vitamin E to scars lightening them up and makes the scar itself lighter, is there anything a person could use and apply to the actual pits that acne leaves on the face or some sort of vitamin that stimulates collagin growth to fill the pock marks in?

Sorry,I mean I just got my stitches out to day and already apply vit e on it and all my scars in my face but nw my face feels a bit itchy that normal and will this vit e oil works.please help I’m really desperate.
Paris B says
If feeling discomfort I suggest you stop and see a doctor. Vitamin E can help reduce scarring but I’m not sure if it should be used direct on fresh scars.
monalisha says
i have applied vit e for 3 nights and today i hav itching on my chiks….shouldn i continue this or stop this or apply twice in a week.i have oily-sensitive skin….so pls tell me what to do.
Paris B says
I’d recommend you stop because clearly, it doesn’t agree with your skin. If it gets worse, you may want to see a doctor. Everyone reacts to skincare and skincare products differently

Hi Ladies, I use a 30,000 IU Vitamin E oil on my face neck and arms hands n O my lips.It\’s nice n thin. I\’ve never had any trouble with stickiness at all. It is in Made by Good\’N Natural. It is $10.90 for a2.5 oz bottle. It is for ingesting so I felt it would be safe for my skin. It is such a silky smooth oil. I am however wondering if it is safe to use on a daily bases.Do you know?Sincerely, Jane

is there a reason why the vitamin E capsules for swallowing are so many times weaker in strength? I ask because most of the vit E when swallowed doesn’t even get to benefit the skin!
I actually cut open vitamin E capsules and apply the oil to my scars and have noticed that my crows feet have gone down visibly (honestly they were worse on that side as well) on the side of my face that I put the oil on. The strength is only 100iu as they are cheap £1 capsules from a local chemist.
They are very good at smoothing chapped lips as well.

Hi I’ve been using Vitamin E oil for about 2 months now. I have extremely oily skin and since I started using vitamin E my skin is no longer oily. I also found that my skin has a nice bronze glow and is super clear. I actually use a drop of the oil at night and in the morning (daily). I have not had any acne from using the oil. I would definitely recommend vitamin e oil over expensive brands that claim to take away fine lines and scars…not to mention it is so much cheaper.
Tiffany says
Hi Miaa, if you dont mind, may i know the brand that you are using?
Nabil says
By the way, the one I have is 80,000 units from “sundown naturals.”
Super thick tho…
something less sticky would be natures bounty.
These are all super pure, you can even ingest them.
