Use eyeshadows wet

Bourjois, Bobbi Brown, MAC Pigment

Have you ever rubbed and scrubbed away at an eyeshadow that yields little colour or pigment? Or maybe sometimes you just feel like tossing out an eyeshadow that doesn’t show up much on your skin.

Before you toss it into the bin, try this:-

  • Wet your eyeshadow brush, then squeeze out the water so its just damp.
  • Use your damp brush to pick up colour from one corner of the eyeshadow.
  • Apply it to your eyelid like normal.

Bourjois Ombre Stretch Eyeshadow

I’d used Bourjois eyeshadows before, but were never truly impressed with them. The colours were nice, but the texture was hard. This is possibly due to the fact they are baked. The Bourjois round blushes are worth spending on, but the eyeshadows are hit and miss in my book.

Bourjois has come out with a new eyeshadow though, that looks nothing like their old one.

This one, housed in a rectangular case incorporates nylon microspheres to ensure the colour stretches like fabric. This is so the colour lasts longer. Don’t ask me what that means. I have absolutely no idea! (Read about it if you understand Japanese or read here if you understand French!)

There are 10 colours at present and retail for £5.95 each. I am itching to try the Intense Black 01, Or Extensible 03 and Vert Etirable 05 and maybe Brun Nylon 09. Too bad there’s no Bourjois here in Malaysia. Maybe when I make it down to Singapore and if its available there. Any Singaporeans care to report? :)

Why use neutral eyeshadow?

I received an Isetan mailer recently which had pictures of the new Bobbi Brown Nude eye and lip palette (RM210). I also saw the palette in person last week and the shadows were 4 similar colored nude or neutral eyeshadows. It reminded me of a question I used to ask before - Why would anyone want to use neutral eyeshadow or eyeshadows that look nude? Isn’t the purpose of eyeshadow having colour on the eyes?

I’ve since worked out the answer for myself. There are some days or some occasions when having other colours on your eyes won’t do. Examples are strict work places or serious events or even just when you want to be taken seriously like if you have to attend meetings or meet new customers or clients or business partners. If you are in a serious sort of job, having beautifully made up eyes with coloured eyeshadow just won’t do because people just don’t take you seriously otherwise (unfortunate but true). Review: Makeup: Bourjois Little Round Pot Powder Blush

Bourjois is a french brand of drugstore cosmetics but don’t be fooled by the idea of them being drugstore. They are a sister company of Chanel and have been around since the 1800s! The Little Round Pot blush quality is really awesome and that is a great compliment coming from someone who loves blushes. I was first introduced to them by a friend and I have loved every single one I’ve tried.

I used to have more, but these are the only 4 blushes I have left. The blushes tend to be shimmery although there are one or two which are matt for those that prefer it. I kept these 4 because they are my favourite colours. Lilas D’or and Rose D’or have gold shimmer which aren’t over the top and are really pretty on the cheeks. The shimmer in Rose de Jaspe and Rose Frisson are less obvious. They look pretty similar in the photo but don’t on the skin which justifies me keeping them all ;)

The blushes come in a round domed shape. They are baked instead of pressed and I found that they tend to form a layer on the top of the blush after a while. A quick brush with a stiff brush usually removes the layer and the blush is as good as new. The quality is very similar to that of Chanel Joues Contraste blushes and are even similar in style. Chanel Joues Contraste blushes are more finely milled, I find but for the price difference, you’d expect it!

Bourjois pot blushes come in a plastic container where the colour of the container matches that of the blush inside. That makes it easy to identify the exact colour you want when you have a bunch of blushes in your drawer. There is also a brush included which I find useless so I just throw them away as they do nothing but sit on the top of the blush and rub against it.

Bourjois is presently not available in Malaysia. I got mine mostly from the UK where they retail for something like GBP6.25 at Boots. Price isn’t all that cheap after conversion but for the quality, its awesome. Nearer to home, its available in Singapore too and usually goes on discount up to 20%.

Pros: Nice colours, good selection, shimmery, packaging reflects colour inside

Cons: Not available in Malaysia, brush is useless, surface hardens

Rating: ★★★★☆
